To think they should have kept serving me?

itsotoy · 10/06/2025 15:24

Went to collect 4 parcels from my local shop. I told her I had 4, she gave me 1 and said “thanks, bye” … I informed it again it was 4. It was taking ages and she claimed she couldn’t find it - but she’d already scanned my code and signed it in the book that it had been collected.

She said “yeah I can’t find it” and then the guy with her told me I would need to wait whilst they served the queue behind me.

Sorry I get there was a queue of 2 people but I was there first and was in the middle of being served and had already been patiently waiting. I don’t think I should have to wait even longer because they couldn’t find my parcel.

I think it’s fair enough when they couldn’t find all the parcels straight away to serve the actual paying customers first then come back to you.

I imagine the reason you won’t answer everyone asking if they found the other parcels was because they did, it just meant you waiting a bit longer which you had the huff about…..YABU.

I went to the post office recently and a man posted two parcels then asked for change then paid in a cheque. He took bloody ages. I only wanted to send a large letter, should he have moved for me? Of course not, it’s first come first served.

Rosscameasdoody · 10/06/2025 18:34

I genuinely don’t understand why the British public are willing to put up with, and be so defensive of such shit customer service.

Rosscameasdoody · 10/06/2025 18:36

EllyRoff · 10/06/2025 17:54

Why won’t you say if you got your parcels? Stop faffing and answer the bloody question 🙄

I really do think “parcel people” should only be allowed to collect parcels at certain times of day when there are dedicated parcel staff on.

Imagine telling pensioners that if they don’t opt for direct debit, they can only collect their pensions at certain times.

What’s funny is that whilst people were mocking me straight away, it it was such a boring post then it shouldn’t have gone further than a few replies.

I know! I was so ticked off by it that I used the word "fuck" in your defence, OP.

(maybe I've had too much caffeine today.)

TheodoraCrumpet · 10/06/2025 18:38

I don't get all the sarcasm and vitriol on this thread. I'd have been pissed off too, OP. Presumably nobody forced the shop owners to become a parcel pick-up point. They therefore need to deal fairly with customers who turn up to collect parcels, not act as if they're the ones causing delays because parcels have been mislaid.

Chumbawomble · 10/06/2025 18:39

I had to go three times to pick up a parcel that I could SEE behind the man at a petrol station collection place. He just wouldn't look! Unsurprisingly, I haven't used it since.

WimbyAce · 10/06/2025 18:41

I think the trouble is places like co op have taken on doing parcels and the increase in parcels is huge with vinted etc. At our one they have a dedicated search member and then someone else carries on with the till. Having said that they do have 2 self serve machines that people with shopping could be using and don't.

FuckAlexa · 10/06/2025 18:42

Those complaining it's boring probably prefer the blatantly fake threads that go on for like three or four instalments.

I want the laughing emoji back, some of these replies are making me spit my tea out 😂

AnneMarieW · 10/06/2025 18:45

Of course YANBU. Honestly the replies on Mumsnet amaze me sometimes- it’s the whole point of queuing, that it’s first come first served 🤷‍♀️ It’s hardly your fault that they couldn’t find your parcels.

Of course, if she couldn’t find them after a good search then the normal etiquette is to ask you if you mind her serving the next person in the queue - while she gets another colleague to have a look in case she’s somehow missed them (and social pressure would likely make you say yes).

But they just expected you to say “oh okay” and walk away without the parcels? Or wait until the whole queue had been served by both of them and then they would have a search more thoroughly? Bizarre.

Oh so now you’ve switched your ‘faffing’ accusation to something else since your ‘ faffing in the shop’ line didn’t get any backers! 🤣🤣🤣

pensions have been paid directly into people's bank accounts for years. the same as all payments from the DWP .

That’s not the same sort of comparison talking about a Post Office though.

It would be like comparing someone buying one item with a whole basket full - both are paying customers.

OP wasn’t a paying customer, they found the first parcel then asked her to wait while they got the queue down to find the others….I really don’t get the drama?

I’ve been in the same position and didn’t get annoyed in the slightest, I thought fair enough it is a shop first after all. I have also been in shops where they have two separate queues (one for customers buying goods and one for parcels) They always prioritise the paying customer queue first.

YABU. You are a faffer and faffers should be made to wait until normal customers get served first.

everytime I go to post office I get stuck behind faffers and I wish the staff at ours made them wait like yours did.

She went to collect her four parcels. They only gave her one. She asked for the other three.
Why is that faffing?

But she - or someone - has paid for her items to be delivered. Just because she isn’t handing over money there and then doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve to be served. Someone has paid for the service they are providing somewhere along the way and they need to fulfill that service, not treat her poorly, her parcels would be partly paying their wages - paying their wages to serve people like her. There were two servers, the lady should have served her and the gentleman should have focused on the queue.

Nope. For those who do not have, or can’t manage a bank account they are paid in vouchers weekly, redeemable at the post office. It’s called the payments exception service and the cashier has to verify ID and process the voucher before paying out. So another ‘faff’.

Do you actually know what a faffer is?

Jc2001 · 10/06/2025 18:01

Maybe you should get your pension paid by direct debit to save you going to the Post Office so often.

Edited
  1. Pensions are paid directly into bank accounts just like all other payments made by the DWP
  2. A Direct Debit is exactly as it states, a "debit" i.e a payment taken from someone's bank account not made to it

The first comment was actually funny though.

Holding the queue up messing around. Imagine how the person behind you feels knowing their exchange will take minutes but you’re stood there taking forever

She wasn’t holding the queue up messing around. What on earth are you on about?

The shop offers a service - it is PAID to perform this service. OP has quite legitimately gone to the shop to utilise this service that the shop has chosen to provide. She is not less worthy than any other customer of the shop.

There was two staff, one should have served the queue while the other located the parcel they’d been entrusted with.

IberianBlackout · 10/06/2025 18:54

Customer service is going from bad to worse across the board, it’s ridiculous.

I rarely carry cash these days so the other day I asked for £25 cash back because I needed to pay a lesson. She handed me £5 all in coins and I said no, I need £25 cashback and she just said “no” and kept staring at me. We were both like “…..” at each other til I left. I was in a rush otherwise I would have pushed back.

One of my local Tesco employees always looks angry if someone commits the crime of going to the till and he has to serve them lol.

Your imagination must be running riot .

KatyaKat · 10/06/2025 18:59

I'm with you OP, it wasn't your fault they couldn't (wouldn't) find your parcel. Why are the people behind you more important than you, who was already in the middle of being served? What if they also had parcels to collect that couldn't be found? That's the point of a queue, everyone waits their turn, it's not rocket science.

ExercicenformedeZ · 10/06/2025 18:59

This is my absolute pet peeve. Similar has happened to me before, and the people make out like YOU'RE the problem. My local newsagent is great, but the Tesco is useless. It annoys me to no end that they purport to provide a service and then fail to do so.
