To think they should have kept serving me?

itsotoy · 10/06/2025 15:24

Went to collect 4 parcels from my local shop. I told her I had 4, she gave me 1 and said “thanks, bye” … I informed it again it was 4. It was taking ages and she claimed she couldn’t find it - but she’d already scanned my code and signed it in the book that it had been collected.

She said “yeah I can’t find it” and then the guy with her told me I would need to wait whilst they served the queue behind me.

Sorry I get there was a queue of 2 people but I was there first and was in the middle of being served and had already been patiently waiting. I don’t think I should have to wait even longer because they couldn’t find my parcel.

Holding the queue up messing around. Imagine how the person behind you feels knowing their exchange will take minutes but you’re stood there taking forever

Nonsense 🙄

AlertEagle · 10/06/2025 17:38

I can’t believe some of the comments, some people come on here to be rude. Of course they should have served you until you got all your parcels

It has the makings of a prize winning literary short story!

What’s funny is that whilst people were mocking me straight away, it it was such a boring post then it shouldn’t have gone further than a few replies.

A film could be made about this

Yeah but no one would believe it

If I'm in that queue behind you I am 100% getting annoyed at the situation.

The right thing to do would be to say to you I can't find the other three, I'll just serve these other customers and then continue looking for your parcels as not to inconvenience everybody in the shop. Perfectly acceptable.

Why can’t the other shop assistant carry on serving whilst the other one looks for OPs parcel? Then no one is inconvenienced

EllyRoff · 10/06/2025 17:54

Why won’t you say if you got your parcels? Stop faffing and answer the bloody question 🙄

I really do think “parcel people” should only be allowed to collect parcels at certain times of day when there are dedicated parcel staff on.

Gyozas · 10/06/2025 17:56

EllyRoff · 10/06/2025 15:48

YABU. You are a faffer and faffers should be made to wait until normal customers get served first.

everytime I go to post office I get stuck behind faffers and I wish the staff at ours made them wait like yours did.

What are you on about?

OP was captive, in that she needed her parcels.
The other customers could leave the shop and go elsewhere.
Their thinking, not mine. Short term gain for the shop.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 10/06/2025 16:19

I think they get about 20p per parcel and the other customers in the queue were probably spending a lot more than 80p each so…

If you have 4 parcels and they can’t find one, expect them to serve other people first. 4 parcels is a bit excessive. I often sell things on Vinted and have learnt to use In Post lockers instead because the local newsagents get a bit pissed off and don’t make that much from it. I would send 2 or maximum 3 in one go, if I really had to. Otherwise spread out over a couple of days. It’s not a post office.

I love mumsnet... in the same vein if someone is only buying a quick sandwich and can of pop on their lunch break while everyone else is doing the weekly shop then the weekly shoppers should get to push in front of them even though they waited their turn just because they are 'spending more money in the shop' so clearly in your world have more right to go first lol.

Maybe you should get your pension paid by direct debit to save you going to the Post Office so often.

latetothefisting · 10/06/2025 18:04

I find it a bit ironic OP that your post is apparently so boring that multiple people have nothing better to do in their lives than to bother posting telling you how boring your post is!

Not to mention the posters who found it so boring that they instead decide to imagine a completely different scenario to the one you describe happening so they can tell you off for something you didn't do but they imagined you did.

Brilliant. Might not make a move but could be an interesting case study in psychology.

Anyway I agree with you, even more so given there were 2 staff members there. One carry on looking for your parcels, the other 1 serve. At the very least they should have asked you if it was okay for them to serve the other people first.

FWIW I had the opposite experience the other day, they were looking for something for someone and apparently it took several members of staff while a queue built up, all staring gormlessly around rather than 1 looking and the other serving the rest of us, or at the very least acknowledging there was a queue of potential customers and saying 'Sorry won't be a second we're just looking for something.' Such basic customer service, in fact it's not even customer service just common sense that if there are two of you working and two jobs that need doing you do one each...

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 10/06/2025 16:43

What do you mean? They also get paid to hold them?

No I mean she has no control over when they arrive rather than choosing to send loads at one go

Hotflushesandchilblains · 10/06/2025 18:12

I would be really pissed off if, having queued for my turn, I was then told I would have to wait because they could not complete their search, especially when there are 2 staff on. Its really poor.

I love a thread where every reply is nuts. Is everyone on glue now?

Well, proper packing adhesive is pretty strong...

JayJayEl · 10/06/2025 18:12

itsotoy · 10/06/2025 16:32

It doesn’t mean going into the back, it’s more 3 steps to the side as they are on a shelf under the counter.

And when I went in there was no one there, so apart from being closed I’m not sure how much quieter you can get.

MN really is ridiculous. I’m faffing, I’m messing around, I shouldn’t use the service, I should only use InPost even when it’s not an option, I’m excessively ordering, I shouldn’t collect more than 1 parcel at time, I should predict when the shop is quiet.

Yeah - this is so ridiculous! You were the first customer, they started serving you, they continue to finish serving you and ask the people behind to please wait patiently.

Why is it that people (majority women) are so vile and downright ridiculous on here?? I would LOVE to read some sort of sociological/psychological paper on the reasons behind it. It's just bizarre!

PixieTales · 10/06/2025 18:13

I think it’s fair enough when they couldn’t find all the parcels straight away to serve the actual paying customers first then come back to you.

I imagine the reason you won’t answer everyone asking if they found the other parcels was because they did, it just meant you waiting a bit longer which you had the huff about…..YABU.

FedupofArsenalgame · 10/06/2025 18:13

Tiredofwhataboutery · 10/06/2025 17:17

I think in little shops that double up as parcel points they only get a few pence per parcel. So they prioritise shop customers who keep the bills paid. I think it’s fine to say do you mind stepping to the side whilst we serve these customers. So long as they then sort out your parcel problem.

2 staff there. One could serve the other customers

SillyMillie90 · 10/06/2025 18:22

Op

Are you otherwise happy and thriving in life?

LongPole · 10/06/2025 18:30

I genuinely don’t get all the jokes on this thread?!

Anyway I actually agree with you OP, you were there, you waited your turn, you informed them of the process, I don’t think that makes sense for them to refuse.

If you go to the supermarket with a huge trolley and everyone behind you has baskets you aren’t told to go to the back of the queue, everyone just gets on with it! Bizarre.

So what - the OP isn’t a paying customer ? She’s paid for the item and for delivery to a parcel shop. How is she any less of a paying customer ?
