To think they should have kept serving me?

Went to collect 4 parcels from my local shop. I told her I had 4, she gave me 1 and said “thanks, bye” … I informed it again it was 4. It was taking ages and she claimed she couldn’t find it - but she’d already scanned my code and signed it in the book that it had been collected.

She said “yeah I can’t find it” and then the guy with her told me I would need to wait whilst they served the queue behind me.

Sorry I get there was a queue of 2 people but I was there first and was in the middle of being served and had already been patiently waiting. I don’t think I should have to wait even longer because they couldn’t find my parcel.

Looking for a parcel means going out the back. Better to do that when it’s quiet rather than have people in a long queue who have bought stuff from the shop.

I thought this was going to be about being pissed in a pub ….

same! 😂

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 10/06/2025 16:26

I have this a LOT picking up parcels. My parcel is somewhere in a massive dumped pile, no order or logic, and they look helpless when I ask for it. I usually give up and just wade through them myself without asking for permission.

Some of the people on this thread are bonkers. How is 4 parcels excessive? Is she supposed to stagger her orders so they don't all arrive at once? Or call in 4 days running to collect 1 parcel at a time? The shop offers a parcel collection service. She was collecting parcels.

Edited

You may say I’m mental or whatever, but I say this as someone who has collected and sent a lot of parcels for about 10 years, and no newsagent in the history of newsagents has ever been happy with more than a couple of parcels at a time. They don’t earn a lot and it always creates drama with the queue. Just my experience. I recommend in post lockers or home delivery if OP is ordering lots online.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 10/06/2025 16:26

And mine ARE sent to my house, but if I’m not in they get dumped at some random corner shop.

never had this! That would be annoying.

I think they get about 20p per parcel and the other customers in the queue were probably spending a lot more than 80p each so…

If you have 4 parcels and they can’t find one, expect them to serve other people first. 4 parcels is a bit excessive. I often sell things on Vinted and have learnt to use In Post lockers instead because the local newsagents get a bit pissed off and don’t make that much from it. I would send 2 or maximum 3 in one go, if I really had to. Otherwise spread out over a couple of days. It’s not a post office.

If it’s not worth the money to them then they shouldn’t offer that service.

You get I was collecting and not sending right? So should I just collect 1 a day? So as not to bother the shop who’s offering the service and people that might be on a queue?

Also I have no control on the shipping options of a Vinted seller. Yes I use InPost frequently but I can’t force someone to have that as an option when I’m purchasing.

Either
a. only ONE parcel was ready for delivery that time
b. All four things you bought were packaged in the one parcel

Bingo. Problem solved Wink

YABU. You are a faffer and faffers should be made to wait until normal customers get served first.

everytime I go to post office I get stuck behind faffers and I wish the staff at ours made them wait like yours did.

How the fuck is OP a faffer?

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 10/06/2025 16:29

How the chuff is the op faffing?

I've come to collect 4 parcels

Gets given 1 parcel

Repeats it's 4 parcels

Post Office worker then faffs around.

What part of that is the op faffing?

Is it starting the conversation by saying you're here to collect 4 parcels that's faffing?

Is it reminding the po worker that you said 4 when they only pass you one that's faffing?

Is it having the audacity to come to collect more than 1 parcel that's faffing?

Is it someone else not being able to find your parcels that's you faffing?

Outrageous! If there were two of them serving, one can deal with you and get off their backside and LOOK,the other can deal with queue! Its not rocket science!

Freshstartyear25 · 10/06/2025 16:29

It’s just like when someone has just milk and someone in front has a trolley of goods. The person in front was there first so they should be served. I would normally let the person with the milk go in front but that’s my choice. It’s first come first served. OP got there first, she should be given her parcels then the next person served. It’s not her problem that there’s only one person serving everyone.

If the shop owners are not happy with people collecting parcels they shouldn't offer a parcel collection service! It's not compulsory. Either do it willingly/happily or don't do it at all.

NewGoldFox · 10/06/2025 16:31

Cheeky sods. Customer service is so daft now.
I wanted to exchange a nail varnish at Superdrug’s at point of purchase (it was matte I hadn’t realised until that point) the till person said there was only matte available in the offer I was using. I knew that wasn’t the case and it was because there was a small queue behind me. There were so many staff idling around someone could have nipped and got one (or I was more than happy to do so!)
Long and dull story I know but it made it clear to me why the high street is dying out.

Andylion · 10/06/2025 16:31

Lmnop22 · 10/06/2025 15:45

But if they couldn’t find it, they couldn’t keep serving you so what can they do?!

Then they start whatever process deals with lost or unfound parcels and fixing whatever the staff member did that indicated that all packages had been received when they hadn't.

There were two staff members there. One could have deals with the people in the queue.

DeSoleil · 10/06/2025 16:25

Looking for a parcel means going out the back. Better to do that when it’s quiet rather than have people in a long queue who have bought stuff from the shop.

It doesn’t mean going into the back, it’s more 3 steps to the side as they are on a shelf under the counter.

And when I went in there was no one there, so apart from being closed I’m not sure how much quieter you can get.

MN really is ridiculous. I’m faffing, I’m messing around, I shouldn’t use the service, I should only use InPost even when it’s not an option, I’m excessively ordering, I shouldn’t collect more than 1 parcel at time, I should predict when the shop is quiet.

Theres a place near me where i hate getting parcels delivered to as they act like they're doing me a favour and that im annoying them. They make grumpy comments if its more than a day since they got it and huff and puff.
2 other places in town where things get delivered sometimes and they are not like that at all.

If you were there first then I agree, its rude to start serving others, unless you had indicated for them to do that.

If they are saying you collected when you havent, then they are scamming you

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/06/2025 16:33

Well, that's a stupid response. OP shouldn't use the collection service for more than one parcel at a time because it holds others up? The worker is on a low wage and the OP's order is excessive? Other people are waiting, too? Parcel collection points should only be for one parcel per person should they? 🙄

WiddlinDiddlin · 10/06/2025 16:34

If I lived and worked where I used to - I'd be out all day, not safe to leave parcels (or indeed, anything!) outside - and my route out and back each day is in the opposite direction and some 10 miles from the nearest InPost lockers, assuming the seller uses InPost which not all do.

The local shop there takes in parcels - their system is, if you have more than one they'll ask you to wait until the queue is served (nicely and they have a cafe so its not a hardship generally) then they'll find them OR they will let you have a rummage if they know you. It is a long way from perfect but they are polite about it!

Sounds like the OP goes to a shop that does parcel pick up, but doesn't really want to, is shit at organising it and rude to customers. Hardly the OP's fault!

Lmnop22 · 10/06/2025 15:45

But if they couldn’t find it, they couldn’t keep serving you so what can they do?!

Sure the " man with " could've served the other people whilst the original person who scanned code carries on looking or did something to show only one parcel collected not 4

itsotoy · 10/06/2025 16:28

they can offer the service but still choose to prioritise other customers in the shop if they think it will earn them more money, and can’t find the parcel then and there. I’m assuming you still got the parcel yes? There are a lot of newsagents around so someone queuing for a £20 packet of cigs or some beers may well get fed up and go elsewhere. Meanwhile you have no choice but to wait for your parcel which they already got the money for.

I don’t understand why people don’t get this concept. It may be annoying but I can understand it.

Mooflon12 · 10/06/2025 16:35

To be fair judging by your ability to faff around the most important question of did they find them in the end - maybe you were faffing!! 😂

Did you get the other 3 parcels in the end, though?
