DH fascinating over my tablets

NotSoSlimShadee · 06/06/2025 14:37

I have an inner ear infection, DH reckons he does too - which ironically came on after I told him my symptoms. I went to GP Wednesday and have been given antibiotics. Ever since, DH has been sniffing around my tablets, keeps asking to share them but I’ve told him I need them all as I have to finish the course! Last night I went to take my dose and they were missing - I found them in a shoe (accidentally as dog just happened to pick that shoe up to carry around). DH reckons he doesn’t know how they got there. This morning I woke up with a bad stomach, DH says it’s the tablets causing it and I should stop taking them - he basically just wants to get his hands on them. Lunch time they were missing again (found in a random cupboard). AIBU to be furious at his behaviour?? He did this last time with my sinus spray.

Put your medication somewhere he can’t find it and not let him see you take it.

JulesJules · 06/06/2025 17:22

Wtf. Is his name Mr. S. Nutkin by any chance?

Afewtimesagain · 06/06/2025 17:23

He sounds quite mad. I would be concerned about him and his behaviour.

Rosealine · 06/06/2025 15:40

This post cannot be real

Sadly it can.

Usk · 06/06/2025 17:25

Really strange behavior.

However best bet is to keep tablet on you or somewhere no-one allowed - handbag for me or lock box.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 06/06/2025 17:26

MounjaroMounjaro · 06/06/2025 15:38

OP, have you seen the thread on here about the man who wanted his partner's cancer appointment?

What the actual fuck?

BunnyLake · 06/06/2025 17:27

He sounds mentally unwell. Has he sought treatment for his obsessive behaviours? If not, he should, this is very odd behaviour from an adult man.

Nikki75 · 06/06/2025 17:28

Bizarre behaviour what a dick !! You need them ffs.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/06/2025 17:32

Can you not keep your medication in your pocket?

Zanzara · 06/06/2025 17:36

Lavenderfarmcottage · 06/06/2025 16:13

Sounds like he has some sort of anxiety and wants to hoard them. Tell him to instead watch YouTube videos on growing his own penicillin, sometimes it’s easier to just redirect their craziness.

Now this I agree with.

I'm getting extreme prepping vibes here, amongst others. Buy him a Fossibot F3600 pro solar generator and four cheap solar panels from City Plumbing and some cables and get him obsessed with that instead OP. ( I merely recommend that option because it will save you thousands vs possible others). He can obsess with how much it's producing, produce records and charts, learn all about the subject (it's actually very interesting), and hopefully save you a few quid into the bargain.

( I have no link with these companies).

But seriously, I do not envy you OP. Try and get to the bottom of his motivation. 💕

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 06/06/2025 17:37

Honestly I just really want to know what else he does, this is wild, hoarding beans that belong to other people... Is it the stealing bit he fixates on, or the items, it can't surely be beans as they're in every shop and probably his own cupboard. He must have some kind of mental health issue surely?

Planesmistakenforstars · 06/06/2025 17:42

Is he one of those doomsday people, but only hoarding beans and anti biotic?

KarolKickie · 06/06/2025 17:43

and OP wins the new Mumsnet prize 'WEIRD DP OF THE DAY' award for her DH who steals antibiotics and baked beans.

KarolKickie · 06/06/2025 17:43

from his mother

Barnbrack · 06/06/2025 17:45

NotSoSlimShadee · 06/06/2025 15:02

His mother, not mine

He needs counselling, something is wrong here

Wildewheat · 06/06/2025 17:51

OP I think you’re under reacting to this. I know the internet is full of “LTB” and for most of us this is a really odd thread we will hopefully one day forget but for you it’s your actual life. I do get it’s not that easy.

That said, this is way beyond an annoying quirk. He’s obsessed with antibiotics and keeps trying to take yours to the point you might have to hide them? My DH has his fair share of weird stuff that a lot of people wouldn’t want to deal with but this so so far beyond normal that I cannot envision having to deal with this from a partner.

PomeloOud · 06/06/2025 17:51

I believed it until the baked beans bit 😂

Mygosh · 06/06/2025 17:52

Are you married to my brother? He has baked beans with Christmas dinner 😂

Very bizarre why your dh wants antibiotics. Does he have mental health problems?

SD1978 · 06/06/2025 18:00

You need to out them in a safe place where he doesn’t know they are. Stealing half packets of antibiotics is sodding ridiculous.

TheSilentSister · 06/06/2025 18:00

I had an exDH who used to hide my things and then be the one to announce he'd found them, always in bizarre places. Had lectures about how I should be more careful. After we split, I no longer 'lost' things. Penny dropped. I've no idea why he did it as he wasn't controlling in the slightest (apart from that).
OP - I'd hide your medication up and take a photo on your phone of where it is.

dentalflosser · 06/06/2025 18:02

Sorry, come back again to comment that if DH hoards antibiotics and claims he also has an ear infection then he’s got plenty of antibiotics to choose from.
OP, where does he keep his stash? Is it hiding in a pair of wellies?
But I was concerned about your upset stomach, yes it could have been the antibiotics but it could have been something else causing it in the hope you would stop taking them so your DH can take them for his collection.
My DH can be competitive when it comes to illness. I had a vile winter vomiting bug once and I was so ill. Sanitised the bathroom each time I used it but DC (bug distribution manager) was also barfing and DH didn’t sanitise after being near DC. So now DH has the bug too.
I said I had lost half a stone (yay!) as I couldn’t keep anything down for 48 hours and was dehydrated. DH said “I’ve lost A STONE!”
So I weighed myself in front of him, then weighed him. He had lost one pound and then said he’d eaten a large meal earlier. It was not half a bison, it was toast and soup. Hardly nearly a stone in weight…🙄

Figsaregood · 06/06/2025 18:05

Kay00 · 06/06/2025 15:44

I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask if he's hording these things for an apocalyptic or nuclear war? That's the only reason that beans and antibiotics makes sense.

You said he's hording meds, does he have a lot hanging around the house? Is he pestering the GP for them frequently?

If he was hoarding for a nuclear war I would expect him to be hoarding iodine tablets ! 😂

Thepossibility · 06/06/2025 18:11

Does he has a special room for his pills and beans? Or do they just... disappear?

dawngreen · 06/06/2025 18:21

Has he got a drug addiction??

dawngreen · 06/06/2025 18:25

I don't see the funny side really of it. What if a child or the dog eats some pills that he dropped. What if you needed pills that could cause harm if taken wrongly?
