DH fascinating over my tablets

NotSoSlimShadee · 06/06/2025 14:37

I have an inner ear infection, DH reckons he does too - which ironically came on after I told him my symptoms. I went to GP Wednesday and have been given antibiotics. Ever since, DH has been sniffing around my tablets, keeps asking to share them but I’ve told him I need them all as I have to finish the course! Last night I went to take my dose and they were missing - I found them in a shoe (accidentally as dog just happened to pick that shoe up to carry around). DH reckons he doesn’t know how they got there. This morning I woke up with a bad stomach, DH says it’s the tablets causing it and I should stop taking them - he basically just wants to get his hands on them. Lunch time they were missing again (found in a random cupboard). AIBU to be furious at his behaviour?? He did this last time with my sinus spray.

Beans????

What does he do with the beans? Does he have a bean stockpile somewhere? Does he eat them? This is the strangest thread I have ever seen.

SleepyLlamaFace · 06/06/2025 15:20

I know we all have quirks, but this is very odd indeed! I'm concerned about your casual acceptance of this behaviour and wonder what else you are underreacting to!

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 06/06/2025 15:20

WTF
If this is not a wind up post then is it possible he has been taken in by conspiracy theories and he’s hoarding antibiotics, beans etc for a nuclear disaster type scenario?

FoodAppropriation · 06/06/2025 15:20

he's not normal

KateBushAgain · 06/06/2025 15:21

So how many tins of beans do you have now ?
I’m sorry OP this is just ludicrous.
I keep thinking it has to be an obscure joke .
I don’t want to make light of it in case the poor man has genuine struggles with his mental health.

herbaceous · 06/06/2025 15:22

This is morbidly fascinating.

Is it the shape of them perhaps? Tablets and beans have a similar look... < grasping at straws >

steff13 · 06/06/2025 15:24

Do you have a room in your house that's just full of cans and cans of beans?

Silentsongs · 06/06/2025 15:25

Beans has thrown me.

If it was just antiobiotics, I'd ask if he has ever suffered from a really painful infection (like a tooth abscess) that has made him paranoid about not having them to hand. I could see that sparking a small obsession.

Add in the beans....no clue.

Sunshineonthewater · 06/06/2025 15:27

I haven’t heard the term ‘fascinating over’ before. I thought other people would be commenting on it but not a single mention! Is it a common phrase I’ve missed somehow?!

That's what I was wondering too. Is it the shape/size/texture of the beans/antibiotics? Is that the link between them? Any other small ovalish things interest him? Is he neurodivise?

What's his explanation for wanting them?

mrsmiggins78 · 06/06/2025 15:28

This is the weirdest thing I have ever read on Mumsnet and it's a high bar.

Sera1989 · 06/06/2025 15:28

This is more than fascination isn’t it, it’s obsession. And potentially hypochondria if he’s been asking the doctor for so many antibiotics he’s been banned! If you share the pills it won’t solve the infection for either of you (but I suspect it’s only you that actually has it). I’d be having a serious chat about him knocking it off

AlwaysFreezing · 06/06/2025 15:29

Don't tell him that my local Chinese supermarket sells antibiotics behind the counter.

Bigcat25 · 06/06/2025 15:31

I would dump him. He's putting his own wellbeing over your own and being sneaky/dishonest.

TokyoSushi · 06/06/2025 15:33

I came on to say this this is very weird behaviour, but I can see that it's already been said! Grin

grizzlyoldbear · 06/06/2025 15:33

Sounds like co-dependency. As soon as you get ill, he gets 'ill' because he doesn't want you to be seperate. Is he like a toddler in other ways?

Kathbrownlow · 06/06/2025 15:35

Another saying that he really is not right in the head.

ConcernedOfClapham · 06/06/2025 15:36

MyDeftDuck · 06/06/2025 15:16

Get a pack of laxatives and tell him they’re antibiotics……..he’ll think twice about ‘inventing’ illness after he’s been shitting through the eye of a needle for a few hours!

Oh you do have a way with words, MyDeftDuck 😅

MounjaroMounjaro · 06/06/2025 15:38

OP, have you seen the thread on here about the man who wanted his partner's cancer appointment?

diddl · 06/06/2025 15:38

Dr won’t prescribe him anymore antibiotics apparently

Not even if he needed them?

Well he certainly doesn't need yours!

Hkakge · 06/06/2025 15:38

So weird it's almost unbelievable.....

NiftyPrawn · 06/06/2025 15:39

So to me (as a healthcare professional but not a Dr) this says one of two things to me:

Generally these days antibiotics are less freely given out as they have been historically, mainly due to antibiotic resistance issues from years of societal overuse.

orrrrr, and particularly given the descriptions of DH’s behaviour(s)….

He has history on his medical record of requesting antibiotics from the GP for everything and anything. Maybe this stemmed from childhood also due to the beans connection with his mother?

But yeah, definitely hide your tablets. Is he like this with other medicines? Is there enough paracetamol to destroy King Kong’s liver stashed in some weird Bean/Meds pantry?

Get well soon :)

Rosealine · 06/06/2025 15:40

This post cannot be real

Sorry, this was relating to you saying “he says the GP won’t give him any more antibiotics”. It didn’t quote properly

Sugargliderwombat · 06/06/2025 15:40

He sounds really weird. You sound weirdly casual about it, too!
