DH fascinating over my tablets

I have an inner ear infection, DH reckons he does too - which ironically came on after I told him my symptoms. I went to GP Wednesday and have been given antibiotics. Ever since, DH has been sniffing around my tablets, keeps asking to share them but I’ve told him I need them all as I have to finish the course! Last night I went to take my dose and they were missing - I found them in a shoe (accidentally as dog just happened to pick that shoe up to carry around). DH reckons he doesn’t know how they got there. This morning I woke up with a bad stomach, DH says it’s the tablets causing it and I should stop taking them - he basically just wants to get his hands on them. Lunch time they were missing again (found in a random cupboard). AIBU to be furious at his behaviour?? He did this last time with my sinus spray.

OP, have you seen the thread on here about the man who wanted his partner's cancer appointment?

Wtf!

Mansionscoldandgrey · 06/06/2025 15:42

There once was a man, who for kicks
Stole his wife's antibiotics
When she said he was mean
He nicked all her beans
And pretended to be very sick

MelliC · 06/06/2025 15:43

I don't think this is a quirk or weird. I think this is someone who doesn't really care bout you and doesn't care that you are ill enough to need pills. Denying someone access to their medicine is a violation of their rights and potential abuse/neglect.
Do you really want to hitch your wagon to someone like this for life? When you could find a partner who felt bad you were ill, looked after you and recognised it it was their duty to help you back to health again? What if you really did get very ill?

Kay00 · 06/06/2025 15:44

I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask if he's hording these things for an apocalyptic or nuclear war? That's the only reason that beans and antibiotics makes sense.

You said he's hording meds, does he have a lot hanging around the house? Is he pestering the GP for them frequently?

This is amazing! I am actually crying with laughter.

It sounds like either extreme health anxiety or he has a form of OCD
He needs to access support

He’s obsessed with antibiotics and I’m pretty sure he hoards them. Same with beans. His mother is forever complaining of beans going missing from her cupboards

Have I just arrived in some sort of twilight zone? WTAF is this about? 😂😂

ManchesterLu · 06/06/2025 15:46

Sorry but he need psychological help about this. What use would your antibiotics be to anyone? Plus the fact that whatever is left isn't even a full course!

honeylulu · 06/06/2025 15:46

This is so weird. At first I thought he was someone who is always "competitively ill" which seems to afflict a lot of men but the hiding your tablets (i won't even start on the beans) is just so odd and makes no sense.

Antibiotics for someone else might not be necessary or the right type and in any case the person needing them (whether him, you or both) needs to take the whole course. "Sharing" a course isn't an option.

Maybe it's like the beans and it's just something he's fixated on and is jealous of anyone else having them. So weird. The fact that the doctor has refused to prescribe them in the past suggests he has demanded them often for flimsy reasons. I'm sure the doc wouldn't refuse to prescribe them if they were really needed.

I hate to say this as it shouldn't be necessary but I think you should hide your pills from him. When you found them had he taken any out?

I don’t think that matters much does it?

Because who’s mother it is is the real issue 😂😂

WeHaveTheRabbit · 06/06/2025 15:49

Has anyone thrown wine at the wall recently? Do you know Sharon, by any chance?

Sorry if this thread is meant seriously, I was just reminded of MN threads from days of yore.

MsFelicityLemon · 06/06/2025 15:53

The baked bean hoarding is obsessive behaviour, but not one that is detrimental. However stealing your antibiotics seems quite pernicious. His obsession is so great he does care of the harm he causes you.

This is not something to live with as of it was harmless.

MonTuesWeds · 06/06/2025 15:55

Is that so?

Hmm.

DaisyDukesAuntie · 06/06/2025 15:55

yeesh · 06/06/2025 14:43

This is one of the strangest things I’ve ever read on here.

This exactly!

Munchyseeds2 · 06/06/2025 15:55

He has some very odd issues and I would be hiding my medication!

Hoogey · 06/06/2025 15:56

Give him some laxitives

raspberrieswithchocolate · 06/06/2025 15:58

Your Dh's behaviour is so strange OP!
Not at all normal, is he open to talking this through with a professional to find out the reason why he does this?

You need to finish the course so keep your antibiotics with you at all times, even during the night.

DontAskMeImLostToo · 06/06/2025 15:58

RocketPanda · 06/06/2025 14:55

This is so weird. Hide your medication.

And the beans 😆

Can I ask please... because I can't get my head around this... is he stealing/hiding your antibiotics so he can take them? Or just do you can't?

And why the baked beans? Really what are his motives? Same question... does he eat them or just hoard them?

Edited

You did say he hoards them, I apologise I missed that.

But I still don't get.... WHY???? Have you never asked him?

ShuffleHopStepForgetStep · 06/06/2025 16:00

Either he is as mad as a bag of badgers, or you are. If you are not having us on, then he has a real problem, and you have a real husband problem.

Myrobalanna · 06/06/2025 16:01

Beans and pills/capsules are kind of similar in size and feel. Is there anything else that sets him off? Beads? Shiny little pebbles?

YouCantArgueWithStupid2025 · 06/06/2025 16:02

Sounds like he's preparing for a zombie apocalypse and all will be fine because he's stashed away enough antibiotics and baked beans 🤯

springintoaction321 · 06/06/2025 16:06

Mumofsoontobe3 · 06/06/2025 15:05

Is this not a wind up? He steals baked beans and hoards them? Own brand is 23p in Tesco. What is his reasoning for hoarding baked beans? The antibiotics one is weird and very alarming.

🤣🤣🤣of course it is.

SoMauveMonty · 06/06/2025 16:06

As someone who's had an inner ear infection that led to a debilitating dose of vertigo i'd kneecap any bugger who hid my medication.
Why he's doing it only he can say, but i'd be finding a lockable place (suitcase or cash tin?) to keep them in until you've finished the course.
