To ask what you think of Meghan and Harry's "bump dance" video?

To mark Lilibet's 4th birthday, they've uploaded this video. I think it's cute and fun but the usual haters are out in force.

She clearly has a monitor on under her dress but people are claiming it's a pillow, and people are also claiming it's not possible to dance like that while heavily pregnant (it totally is, if you're in good shape)

Also the horrible comments from men saying she must have got a lot of practice in, giving lap dances on yachts

Don't really know what people's problem is with these two tbh.

I really dislike MM (and loathe PH) but thought it was kind of sweet.

The yacht girl claims have always been hideously misogynistic.

This is my feeling too.

I actually felt like it humanised her a little bit. She’s just dancing around silly with a huge belly. Not trying to put on some picture perfect trad wife bs (as her recent offerings). But people really desperately want to hate her so much.

Not sure about Harry with his hood up

He's such a gangsta.

Astrabees · 05/06/2025 16:51

I'm sure they had fun together with the twerking, but why on earth would they want to share it with the world? It is not very dignified.

EsmaCannonball · 05/06/2025 16:52

The consent argument doesn't work for a free press in a democratic society. Do you really want the press to have to seek consent before reporting on the rich, celebrities and other public figures? Do you want the rich and famous to be able to use the press for their PR blitzes but never face public accountability or scrutiny?

Plenty of very famous people manage to get on with their successful careers and keep their private lives private. They don't have to worry about consent because they haven't been reduced to trading on their personal lives in the first place.

BustingBaoBun · 05/06/2025 16:55

It's fine and up to them and I much prefer it to Kate and William's schmaltzy walking through cornfields videos which are ridiculously engineered to shut the British public up! You can't tell me you prefer Kate and William and the staring into each others eyes whilst sat on a tree stump!
At least H&M are naturally looking foolish dancing, it's not contrived!

It's also sooooooo amusing to see the usual suspects having a complete meltdown about it, so, for that reason, and the laughs that's given me, I love it 😂🤣

noworklifebalance · 05/06/2025 16:56

I have no opinion of either of them other than, at least in Harry’s case, he had a pretty messed up childhood despite/because of the Royal Family and all that comes with it.

But I really do like the video - it’s silly, fun, two people doing normal fun couple things. I was very mobile when I was 40 weeks (didn’t make my labour any bloody quicker) but I had no pelvic pain, back ache etc so couldn’t twerk if I wanted to!
I can imagine my DH and I messing about like this, whiling away the hours of what was quite frankly a boring time waiting for Labour to start.
Would I post it on SM? No but I don’t earn my livelihood through it or need SM to support it.

Tigergirl80 · 05/06/2025 16:56

I thought it was pretty sunny. I’m impressed she managed to dance like that right before giving birth.

BustingBaoBun · 05/06/2025 16:57

Haha 'not very dignified' is so Mrs Bennet and her daughters a la pride and prejudice. Sniff

TonTonMacoute · 05/06/2025 16:57

It's cringe, I felt almost embarrassed watching it. Mystified why anyone would want to share that with the world, but then I don't really get SM and am thankful that I don't have to depend on it to earn a living.

Init4thecatz · 05/06/2025 17:02

She said she had gained 65 lbs (30 kg). I tried lifting half that and 'twerking' and I couldn't. Honestly, it made me doubt what that bump contained!

I haven't carried though. Is there anyone nearly full-term who csn try this out?... for science.

It's my daughter's 4th birthday so here's a weird dancing video all about me.

Quite common for women to put photos of themselves, or videos, from around the birth when they celebrate the child's birthday.

You have to wonder why the birthday could possibly bring back these memories and photos. Puzzling. 😂

No, it's really not.
In my wide circle of family, friends and colleagues I know not of one single person who has ever put out a video of themselves pregnant on their child's birthday. Never mind one of them twerking.

Etoile12345 · 05/06/2025 17:05

It's the first funny and genuine looking thing I've seen from them! It actually made me like them a bit!

Boredofchange · 05/06/2025 17:05

A bit of fun between a couple that didn’t need sharing

Rosesanddaffs · 05/06/2025 17:05

I think it’s fine for her to dance however she wants, but why did they feel the need to upload and share it with the world, especially as they wanted privacy away from everyone not long ago xx

BennyBee · 05/06/2025 17:09

I think it is hilarious that they constantly claim they want their privacy and sue the papers for invading it, then post all kinds of intimate material, taking a very staged video of themselves in the maternity room where they had their baby! They clearly do not value privacy at all, they just don't like bad publicity. And Harry's book demonstrated that he doesn't value the privacy of his own close family - he exposed loads of private details and conversations - no wonder his dad and brother are not talking to him.

Orderofthephoenixparody · 05/06/2025 17:10

The royal family is not loved by the world. They have a dark history. M&H have made some mistakes like most people who are in the spot light. They are normal people like everyone else. The vitriol and hate they receive is obsessive and borders on unhinged.

Yeah, good point! They really don't want privacy do they? In fact they just seem to want more and more publicity, of any kind. It can't be healthy to live like that, but it's their choice.

She didn’t gain it overnight, it would have been gradual and so not the same as suddenly having to carry 30kg (or 15kg).
I don’t think many people would be able carry the weight of a full term baby, amniotic fluid, placenta and everything else that become “more” (blood? muscle?) if suddenly lumped on them.
I was super active and mobile when full term - after the first trimester I felt completely normal and with no aches or pain.

MagdaLenor · 05/06/2025 17:11

I don't mind Meghan dancing, but Harry, right in front of the camera and with his hood up?
He really seems to be desperate for attention.

Agree. I generally don't care about these two and have found the whole epic saga surrounding them pretty tiresome. This, though, made me warm to them enormously and made me giggle. Just Harry coming across the shot occasionally with his ridiculous moves was enough tbh, but she's got some game too. 😄

Fair play to them for sharing and deciding not to give a shit about the inevitable hate storm it would attract from some.

AngelinaFibres · 05/06/2025 17:12

It will be a very interesting day when / if it is ever found to be true that she used a surrogate for one or both of her children. That will finish the pair of them ( H and M) once and for all.

Celebrities have sued the papers for writing nonsense about them. Most people in the spotlight wants control and would say something. You have actors breaking cameras and lashing out at them. M&H are no different why can't they sue for defamation.

I wish we had some kind of Mumsnet Royal Family forum that all these shite threads can sit in.

Oh wait… we do.

👏👏

Tedious, innit?

Are people not bored of regurgitating the same old stuff about this woman year after year? You have to wonder at what point this relentless tirade is going to run out of steam.

dottiehens · 05/06/2025 17:20

I find it equally weird that some people are so invested in taking their side. After all nobody really knows them and their intentions. If anything the video made me feel that they have a lot of fun together so good for them. Of course some people hate them after they were so awful to the Queen in her late age. This narrative of poor Meghan went through so much. Come on she wasn’t forced to go through marriage with a prince of the one most scrutinised family on earth.
