I was messaging a guy I am seeing (early days) met on online dating and I said I’m just about to get a bath. His reply was ‘’wish I could be your little rubber ducky right now’’ With wink emoji. How would you respond ?!

As for others, i tell my male friends i'm going for a bath/shower all the time in conversation if that's why we're ending it, same with going to make lunch or running errands.. are grown adults really treating the phrase 'going for a bath' like a 'i'm getting naked' invitation?

I think there's a difference between saying 'Right, better go, I need to jump in the shower before I go out' or something to a male friend, and mentioning that you're about to get into the bath to someone you're dating.

I think if I was dating someone and messaged them 'I'm about to get into a bath' I'd be moderately disappointed if they didn't at least hint that they might be imagining what that looked like.

Spot on. When I was dating DH I would text him I was getting a shower or bath purely for a reaction and then exchange a few dirty texts / pictures! All part of the fun of dating!

If I said I was getting in the bath and he said "Enjoy!" I would have been extremely disappointed 😂

Buy she didn't say that did she? She just said she was about have a bath.

She'd struggle to have a bath with her clothes on.

TheSwarm · 05/06/2025 10:06

So you told a guy you are starting to date that you are having a bath, and he flirted back at you.

I mean... what's the problem? If you like the guy, roll with it, if you don't then a bit of clumsy flirting is not really the difference between carrying on with it or not, is it?

ComtesseDeSpair · 05/06/2025 00:19

I probably wouldn’t, but equally I wouldn’t tell a stranger I was off to get naked and have a bath. It’s just a bit intimate.

This!

I think you were unconsciously inviting something

gannett · 05/06/2025 10:11

In the context of dating, "I'm getting in the bath/shower" is quite obviously a flirtatious thing to send. It's not even subtle. You may as well have messaged "imagine me naked". Quite honestly if I told a man I was interested in that I was getting in the bath I'd be hoping he was turned on and reacted accordingly.

His own attempt at flirting in response was a little cringe but nothing that can't be fixed by either the cry-laugh emoji to take the piss in a bantery kind of way, or by taking control of the smut and ramping it up on your terms.

If the idea of him getting turned on by you is off-putting then that is a sign you shouldn't be dating him.

Only those I'm dating. I used to send my now ex texts saying e.g. "I'm popping into M&S to get some new undies at lunch time".
This was different by infinite factors to me telling my mates I had to go to Target for new pants cos my luggage had got lost in transit, or telling my colleagues I'd meet them in the bar later (at a conference) because I wanted to have a shower.

That's not in a context where we're expected to be attracted to each other, so it's very different.

Absolutely this!

If it nauseates you (and it would certainly do that to me), then that's how you feel. Nothing wrong with being thoroughly put off by such babyish phrasing.

Someone I know once dumped a girl because, in the pub, she suddenly put on a squeaky voice and whimpered "Cold! Cold! Snuggles?" at him.

😂

OldMcDonaldHadABigMac · 05/06/2025 10:18

I'd tell him to duck off.

Dangermoo · 05/06/2025 10:33

Go fuck a duck.

EggnogNoggin · 05/06/2025 10:44

I wouldn't date him.

"Wish i was there" Fine. Flirty.
"Wish I was your rubber ducky" Yuck. Not sexy. Opposite of sexy. Could never be attracted to him.

@OldLondonDad

Sheesh- harsh crowd!

Actually there's a fair few on here not giving him a hard time

Mothership4two · 06/06/2025 03:38

It would be helpful if OP would come back to give some clue of what she thought of the comment. And give some context - had they been flirty towards each other before? Although, I could see how "I'm having a bath" might be taken the way he obviously did.

Tashhha · 06/06/2025 19:31

Hello, just a few casual dates so far, just time it’s been suggestive. He just asked what I was doing so I just said about to get in the bath.

So he was dipping his toe in the water? (ha ha)

OP what did you feel when you saw his comment?

A few casual dates? How many? And no flirting, snogging, sex? That would be rubbish for me, and I suspect most people.

Better than a dickpic!

Do you mean a duck pic?

marchmash · 06/06/2025 21:05

I would send him the Bert and Ernie 'Rubber Ducky' song and then just generally see how he is. Wouldn't dump based on just that but would be a bit put off and wait for him to redeem himself.

Don't you mean duckpin? Or dickpic wasnt possible due to the amount of Mr (or Master) Batey bubbles in the bath - equally childish
