Single men should not be allowed to go anywhere children may be at as they may be paedo child snatchers. You can't be too careful.

So they should just stay at home then? My son would struggle to get to work without going somewhere he might encounter children. So he'll have to quit his job and the government will need to pay a higher rate of UC than they do currently so he can afford to live without a job.

Of course he can't take over the shopping because there might be children in the shop. And walking in the local park is out. There are always children there, and not just in the play area.

Are you being tongue in cheek or serious?

I'm assuming this is sarcasm

It was probably my brother. He has an annual pass to the cinema (it's his hobby) and has worked out how many films he needs to see in order to make it worthwhile, so he often goes and watches random stuff to get his monies worth.

Nothing weird about it, bit judgemental of you though.

I do find that a bit weird - going to see a film you’re not really bothered about just to get your money’s worth. Surely there are enough films he actually wants to see - if not then maybe he doesn’t need an annual pass.

Sorry - that’s not meant as a criticism, I’m just a bit bemused.

I used to do this!
Its less out of bitter attempts to get your moneys worth vs taking a risk

When you pay a tenner for a film, you want it to be good and well worth your time and more than mediocre.

If you have it as part of a pass, then you're more likely to see a bigger variety of things, safe in the knowledge you don't feel cheated of your money if it's bad.

I saw a really terrible family movie once, but I had some spare time and the options were that or likely watch terrible tv at home so it was worth a punt

It meant I discovered some indie gems, but also films that I enjoyed that surprised me because they weren't marketed to me

I ended up seeing a lot of things that just happened to match up with my free time vs a specific want to see them. Ultimately some movies (like stitch) dominate multiple screens for a long time so it can be difficult to see many films around them.

Even weeks after it was released, currently if I want to my local cinema I can see peppa pig, stitch repeatedly, how to train your dragon a lot or mission impossible twice (salt path is on a dodgy time). Its been like that for a bit because of stitch being popular so you could easily have seen everything else other than stitch in the last few weeks

But also I was determined to see a certain number of things a month And had specific slots I could see things in

CalicoPusscat · 17/06/2025 11:07

Let him be.

I'm sitting in a cafe with a cup of tea watching a documentary on Charles Manson, think that's weirder 😁

But how do you know whether you'd enjoy a film or not if you don't go?

He enjoys going to the cinema, and it's his hobby, his alone time, so he'll go and watch all sorts of things. Some things he really enjoys unexpectedly, some things he expects to enjoy and actually hates...

Don't think it's weird at all. But then we're all different 🙂

grumpymacgrumpface · 17/06/2025 13:20

Yes - that makes sense. I read it more as him not particularly wanting to see films or even actively not wanting to but going just to use his pass. My understanding, not your wording.

I don’t think single men should be allowed out anywhere unless accompanied by their girlfriends or mothers. Once they are married their wives can take them out to make people understand they are safe, but only if they are trained properly

This post made me very sad. This man could have been there for any number of reasons including being neurodivergent.

BeachLife2 · 26/06/2025 11:52

Not sure why this would concern you. I have a cinema membership and regularly go alone (because friends/family aren't always free or out of choice!). Regardless of what's on, it's a change to relax and switch off.

I end up seeing most of what comes out, which tends to be 2 or 3 films a week. I much prefer the big screen that watching crap on Netflix, and it works out the same price.

I don't have any interest in seeing Lilo and Stitch; but it would be no business if anyone else if I did.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 26/06/2025 11:59

Maybe he's a film critic.
Maybe he has a family member who worked on the film and wanted to see their name in the credits.
Maybe Lilo and Stitch was the favourite film of someone he lost.
Maybe he just fancied watching it.

Well after all of this, we can only hope OP is never selected to sit on a jury.

XenoBitch · 26/06/2025 13:34

The remake of 'How to Train your Dragon' is out now.
Are lone men allowed to go and see that too?
