I used to do this!
Its less out of bitter attempts to get your moneys worth vs taking a risk
When you pay a tenner for a film, you want it to be good and well worth your time and more than mediocre.
If you have it as part of a pass, then you're more likely to see a bigger variety of things, safe in the knowledge you don't feel cheated of your money if it's bad.
I saw a really terrible family movie once, but I had some spare time and the options were that or likely watch terrible tv at home so it was worth a punt
It meant I discovered some indie gems, but also films that I enjoyed that surprised me because they weren't marketed to me
I ended up seeing a lot of things that just happened to match up with my free time vs a specific want to see them. Ultimately some movies (like stitch) dominate multiple screens for a long time so it can be difficult to see many films around them.
Even weeks after it was released, currently if I want to my local cinema I can see peppa pig, stitch repeatedly, how to train your dragon a lot or mission impossible twice (salt path is on a dodgy time). Its been like that for a bit because of stitch being popular so you could easily have seen everything else other than stitch in the last few weeks
But also I was determined to see a certain number of things a month And had specific slots I could see things in
