I used to work in an animation studio. Those guys probably go to see every animation film that comes out. They live and breathe discussing cartoons. Don’t judge.. it might just be someone who loves animation.

What a shame @Engagebrain

You didn’t engage your brain.

Plenty of adults go to films on their own. There are folks who study them academically, even. The only odd thing here is that you think it's odd.

Manypets · 07/06/2025 20:32

Literally just read a post from a mum saying she was going to the screen next door to her kid to give them some space..

Would you judge her as odd?

Smoulderdash · 02/06/2025 14:19

@Littlebluecreature would you think it was weird if he was female?

I’m asking because I’m trying to pluck up the courage to go to the cinema solo (unsure which film..) following the recent breakdown of my marriage. Maybe I’ll be judged though?!

I recently went to the cinema on my own for the first time ever. I had to drop my son at an event over an hours drive away and he had to be there for 4 hours so I had that time to fill. Went to see a film, was surprised how much I loved it. You can just sit there and enjoy the film and you’re not worried about whether the people you’re with are enjoying themselves and comfortable. You can just chill and eat your popcorn. Will definitely do it again, especially when a film comes out that my male household don’t want to see.

Fluffyeye · 07/06/2025 21:12

Who’s weirder.. the person who chooses to go and pass some time enjoying themselves alone at the movies with some popcorn or the mumsnet user that chooses to focus on them and start an internet thread to try and drum up some hateful comments towards them?

Justaspy · 07/06/2025 22:18

Give your head a wobble, you're just looking for a problem where there isn't one.

WhichAreaisGood · 08/06/2025 04:23

Your attitude is why many guys feel they are typecast as paedos, child molesters etc.
Unless the guy does something strange he is entitled to view movies alone, with a partner or with a crowd. Stop typecasting by innuendo.

Ajayo · 08/06/2025 08:02

And the funny thing is - or really the sad thing I should say - is most abusers are “family men” and “good husbands” who do “normal things” with their other half and/or kids etc

Waitingfordoggo · 08/06/2025 10:31

I’d find it a bit unusual for an adult to go alone to see a children’s film. My first thought would be that the person might have some additional needs, not that they are a paedophile.

But I’m sure there are adults who don’t have additional needs who go to watch children’s films alone; I just don’t know anybody like that.

Skybluepinky · 08/06/2025 11:09

I would take photographs of him and report him to the police. No decent human being would want to watch a monstrosity like LILO.

There definitely is, I'm 32 and went to watch it alone on Wednesday night, definitely no additional needs thanks!

Also went to Disney World for 10 nights alone too.

We really need to stop finding it so acceptable to call other people 'unusual' or suggesting they may have additional needs just because they do or like something that's different to ourselves!

I've been on my own too. It's lovely just going on any rides you want, to suit you. Nothing wrong with Disney adults. Off topic but did you stay in a Disney resort hotel?

It was incredible and I'm dying to go solo again!

I stayed at All Star Movies! Being my first time alone, I wanted to stay in the bubble as that made me feel safer :)

Oh lovely and you would have felt safe staying in the Heart of it. I did Eurodisney on my own. Have done Orlando but want to go back on my own. Hope to stay in hotel by Universal Studios - it's my favourite Park x

Many people, men and women, enjoy going to the cinema by themselves for all sorts of reasons. You know nothing about this person, why think the worst of him and judge him?

This is why my poor son, who works nights, won't go anywhere near the flix in the school holidays. He has to go to early shows because of his working patterns & is more likely to be seeing an action/scifi type film but gets The Look when surrounded by squealers going to see an animation.

Why not?
I think your attitude is the most ridiculous tbh.
Thinking men have to watch suitably "manly" films whatever that means and by that logic presumably women can only watch "ladylike" films (maybe a light romcom?)
How about we all watch what we like at the cinema?! You're the one who needs to get real.

There's a vast difference between watchiing movies for adults and movies for children.
