Watching Lilo & Stitch..is this odd?

Here with Dd, only one other family here…and this guy, munching on snacks..watching Lilo & Stitch

Is it just me 😂

If you think that is weird, then how about this... Many, many years ago, work colleague and I went to see re-make of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We were only two people (ladies) at the start of the film (that's weird I know!) and then a guy in hoodie came in a short while later and sat DIRECTLY behind us! We stayed to the end, but he left half way through..
what a big scaredy cat!

😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂

Perhaps he wants to know what his kids or grandkids are going on about and missed out on the family visit. Perhaps he just really likes cartoons. I don't go to the cinema much anymore, but I definitely go on my own as my DH won't watch anything with subtitles. Actually, he would probably watch this on his own, while I was "improving myself" in the next screen - I should think of that the next time I want to go. If this chap repositioned himself to be right by you in an empty cinema, then you'd be asking the staff to deal with it. Otherwise, leave the poor man alone.

this happened to us, DD and I at cinema, guy in front of us on his own, munching snacks and laughing uproariously at a film.

How very dare he enjoy the experience he paid for. 🤔

Ted27 · 04/06/2025 06:06

What exactly 'happened to you'?

It wasn’t really an issue, it felt a bit weird at first as it was a kids animated film and his hilarity seemed out of proportion

EXACTLY this, thank you! I don’t understand Disney adults either

I’m so confused by your post and the strange person you quoted.

I’m not a “Disney adult”.

I’m in my 20s and Disney is significantly older than I am. Disney is not a new concept. I think most people my age grew up watching Disney films - it’s not just the children of 2025. It’s normal for adults to be interested in things they liked as children. Isn’t lilo and stitch essentially a remake or a continuation of the original film released decades ago? So it’s not that strange for an adult to be interested in seeing the new version.

Nostalgia is a thing you know. Or are you expecting your own children to forget everything they enjoyed during childhood the moment they hit 18?

Frequency · 04/06/2025 06:49

I'm a grown woman and I love Lilo and Stitch. The other 2 grown women i live with also love it so we will be going to see it together.

Theroadt · 04/06/2025 06:56

Blackdow · 02/06/2025 14:07

If he’s middle aged then he was a kid when the first movie came out and it light just be nostalgia. He isn’t doing anything wrong. Jesus. Cannot believe you’ve started a thread about this.

Yes it’s a spiteful judgy thread tbh. Not as though he’s hanging round playgrounds on his own 🤷🏻‍♀️

What exactly 'happened to you'?

The trauma of sitting peaceably in a cinema watching your film of choice, and encountering someone else doing the very same thing.
Bound to ruin anyone’s day.

There was a few husbands who were in the thread earlier, and parents were deemed as wrong for being suspicious. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly what I was trying to figure out. What “happened” to her?

Too many main characters in this thread I think, they think other people living their life doing regular activities is something “happening” to them.

Ajayo · 04/06/2025 09:42

ironflan · 03/06/2025 20:40

Bloody agreed.

For all anyone knows he could be a film critic in his spare time. Or do podcasts on movies.

Also, he could just be a guy who likes Disney and wanted to see the movie like every other person that wanted to see it.

I saw a grown woman who looked around my age walk in with a massive stitch plush at the showing I went to see. I thought "why the hell not"

Exactly. I work in the creative field and I did a creative workshop for kids in a museum recently. There was a woman who was presumably there to visit the museum who ended up standing near my workshop which was being held in one of the open spaces. It was free to the public.

She wasn’t being weird with the children at all, and they were all there with their parents anyway.

There was nothing creepy about it - she was clearly listening to what I was saying and she actually came up and asked me a question about my creative career during one of the activities.

Whether he was there just for fun or for work purposes or a bit of both there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

GertieET · 04/06/2025 10:56

As many have said everyone is entitled to see a movie there aren't any rules against an adult watching a U or PG film, there are only rules against kids watching age rated. I would also say as a SEN mum SEN kids grow up into SEN adults, it doesn't just expire once they reach adulthood. Not saying this person is SEN but worth bearing in mind when seeing adults in my child like scenarios.

Ted27 · 04/06/2025 12:07

@Frequency
But you will not be going alone - so you won't attract any attention or judgement for being weird.
Hope you enjoy the movie

@Annascaul thank you for clarifying, I feel much better for knowing what ' happened'
It's a bit like when there is a major incident, how many people are 'caught up in it' when they were no where near it, or where there only yesterday

Catcooper25uk · 04/06/2025 12:31

See this is why i won't do things like this even though I would love to but I miss out because of judgmental people like you.

You shouldn't let anybody put you off doing what you want. So long as you're not breaking the law, you have th autonomy to proceed as you wish. We are a long time dead and life is too short to be worrying what ignorant people will think.

HunnyPot · 04/06/2025 14:36

To be fair the real world isn’t as judgy and small minded as MN is.

I'm pretty confident he's not. I'll take that risk though as he's already seemed a nice bloke.

My ex? I wouldn't put it past him.

Not quite my point.

I love going to the cinema/theatre etc by myself, and it's brilliant.
I couldn't give a shit what other people may or may not be thinking, I'm too busy enjoying myself!
Go for it. Nobody's going to be judging, but if they are it's their problem and their issues, not yours.

Jdh172 · 05/06/2025 14:12

He probably has an unlimited pass and goes to see them all or liked the movie as a kid and wants to watch the re make. Not strange at all. I went to see frozen by myself when it came out and had a great time! Hopefully no one was judging me for being weird 😂😅 everyone likes a good Disney movie!

'Mumsnet' isn't offended though. 98% of just over 3100 people think the OP is being unreasonable and ridiculous! (Including me!)

homelover · 07/06/2025 18:20

Given the abysmal options at most cinemas (about 10% at a multiscreen worth watching imho truly), it could have the less worst available on the night after eliminating the rest. (:c)
