There's a vast difference between watchiing movies for adults and movies for children.

Movies 'for children' are made by adults and designed to be enjoyed by their parents too.

Where does it say that Lilo & Stitch is for children? It is a Universal rating, which means it is for everyone.

Agree, that's why when you rewatch stuff as an adult you suddenly "get" things that flew over your head as a kid 😁

No. there isn't. Well, obviously there are some movies that are only for adults; but it is rare, and would be poor business, for a movie to be only for children, given that young children don't go to the movies on their own. Universal-rated movies may be suitable for children, but usually have aspects that will appeal to parents and often to other adults.

A grown man watching Lilo & Stitch? Get real!

I’m totally real thank you very much!😄

Rapunzle · 11/06/2025 14:09

Not a fully grown man?? Omg!! How dare they enjoy a film!!

It's a bit strange to see that film but not illegal. My adult son who lives alone by the way often does go to the cinema on his own (although not to see Lilo!)

Xenia · 11/06/2025 17:40

I don't even understand why an adult would watch or read Harry Potter by the way.....

Why? What is there to understand? Surely it's not that hard to understand everyone likes different things?

Really? you cannot understand that millions of adults would watch or read something that you wouldn't? How small minded must you be 😂

My BIL is 42 and has SEN. He has not always had the best of care due to his needs not always being understood, resulting in mis-diagnosis and inappropriate medication.

For the last eighteen months he has been under the care of a wonderful Mental Health Professional who finally, it seems, understands his needs. She has been able to prescribe medication that has worked wonders.

He does not enjoy grown-up entertainment; the humour often goes over his head and the dramas upset him. He loves cartoons and a lot of the programming produced ‘for children’.

This would 100% be him (depending on what part of the country OP is in. It might well be him!), he is now able to do things like visit the cinema unaccompanied which would have been unthinkable two years ago.

His progress has been remarkable, and we are all so proud of him, and eternally grateful to his doctor.

I would hate to think all this progress could be de-railed by somebody - who knows nothing about his situation - questioning his right to enjoy this sort of entertainment on his own.

Shame on all who would judge him without knowing his background. 😡

Luckily a Disney movie is for everyone

JohnSt1 · 16/06/2025 13:05

How is the target audience relevant. Two of my favourite films are Toy Story and Babe. Should I not have gone to see them on my own?

Annascaul · 16/06/2025 13:37

I think @Engagebrain needs to do just that.
Username is kind of ironic.

Well as a mother who found it strange a guy liked to sit on the bench in the kids play area of our park and was later arrested for trying to pick up kids I do engage my brain! The engage brain is an instruction to some of the morons who reply on Mumsnet.

That’s vastly different to going to the cinema.

Single men should not be allowed to go anywhere children may be at as they may be paedo child snatchers. You can't be too careful.
