Colleague made sarky comment about me re. GB News

1000 replies

OneStepBeyondd · 30/05/2025 22:21

Discussion at work earlier - does anyone watch the news. Another colleague and I said we don’t mind GB news on occasion to which someone said (directed at me) - ‘I didn’t have you down as one of them’ in a judgemental tone.

Is it me or is that a bit rude and unnecessary?

That was launch night (four years ago) when you can expect a few teething troubles...

Edited

The others in the article aren't. Turns out GB notNews isn't immune to ridiculous spelling mistakes. Even though some posters think they are.

🥱 so I pulled somebody up, who was being judgemental, on their spelling. You then go out to find something to score a point on. I couldn't be arsed to go back and edit my own misspelling on a post. Have you got anything of substance to add to this thread, or is it just me you're gunning for. Can we expect your mate to join us? I remember you from last time.

Brickiscool · 01/06/2025 20:21

It was a compliment. They thought you were a nice sensible person and they were surprised to discover you were a secret bigot 🤷‍♀️

Goodness no. I saw what the Jeremy Corbyn fan club looked like and it wasn't a pretty sight.

So because I'm not a brainwashed rascist I'm a Jeremy Corbyn fan? Do you also believe the immigrants are stealing our jobs? I'm not a JC fan btw but if I was at least I'm not a Reform supporter. With old Nigel who never seems to shut his gob and pulls those weird faces.🤔🙄All he talks about is immigrants.

Lol. You were the one that started picking on other people's spelling mistakes. If you're going to have a pop at other people's spelling or grammar, it's usually advisable to ensure that your own spelling and grammar is beyond reproach.

I do agree that commenting on people's spelling adds nothing of substance to the thread, but if you use this tactic against others, you can hardly complain about people chucking it right back at you.

Except I didn't complain. "Lol".

The complaint was implicit when you asked if the pp had anything of substance to add to the thread.

Did I say you were a Corbyn fan? I was using the pathetic fawning over him as an illustration. The rest of your post I'm not wasting my time with.

No actually, it doesn't help because you are incorrect. I wasn't referring to spelling, I was talking about the poster's lack of substantial engagement, extending beyond the usual lefty piffle; which you are aptly demonstrating.

Dangermoo · 01/06/2025 18:42

..but they can at least spell.

Friend of GBNews, Stewart Lee:

It's very stressful, isn't it, the schools thing in the cities? A friend of mine, he had a little girl and, um, it turned out that she was dyslexic and they were worried about how she would thrive in the oversubscribed inner-city school system, so they actually sold up and they left London and they went to live in the countryside, and the little girl went to school in the countryside, and she's grown up to be a racist
...
who can spell.

You were the one who introduced pointless comments about spelling to the thread. In light of that, it was inevitable that people would pull you up on it.

Perhaps if you had engaged with the issues in a more constructive way in the first place, the conversation wouldn't have been derailed.

By the way, throwing out meaningless insults about "lefty piffle" doesn't count as substantial engagement either. We can all play at that game but it doesn't add anything to the debate.

That, or they might have thought the OP was intelligent enough to know GB News is not a news channel.

I've been engaging with the issues, instead of honing in on individual posters, - repeatedly. I really couldn't care less about people who think their gotchas add anything other than stroking their own egos. The usual names with the usual insults. So predictable but certainly capable of being combated.

No, I'm not going to engage with the debate in a constructive way because it would be a waste of my time. And I haven't seen anything on this thread that is worthy of my serious attention.

It's impossible to engage with an audience when you're in an echo chamber. No matter how many times they sneeringly try to belittle your opinions, they always end up showing they are exactly what they accuse you of.

The irony.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 01/06/2025 20:56

Some threads - and some posters - just aren't worth the effort.

Dangermoo · 01/06/2025 20:57

Neither are posters who always say "I will judge you". Blindly arrogant.

You really threw your toys out of the pram when you realised that your virtue signalling wasn't going to receive the validation you craved. Never mind, you can still post in The Guardian's comments section. 😆

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/06/2025 21:02

Try to ignore the Me-railing attempts @MrsBennetsPoorNerves.

Some posters take criticism of KGB News so very personally that they lose all perspective and self awareness.🙈

Dangermoo · 01/06/2025 20:57

We all judge other people. Some of us are just more honest about it than others.

Of course I'm going to judge people who hold what I consider to be repugnant far right views, or those that like to watch right wing propaganda dressed up as news. That's my prerogative.

I imagine that you're equally likely to judge people who express views that you regard as "leftie piffle" or whatever. And that's your prerogative.

I don't really care if I'm judged by people whose views I despise, why would I?

The OP asked if she was BU. I responded with my honest opinion. Some of you might want to think about why that opinion bothers you so much.

Some people blindly follow one particular political party without question. Attacking any questioners.

WHY?
