To think high heels (especially when worn casually) look absolutely ridiculous?

I’m probably going to get absolutely flamed for this.

But aibu to think that high heels are a complete monstrosity? The only time I think they are passable is if it’s something very formal. For example TV presenters sitting on a couch, or attending an award ceremony. As they’re really being worn just for show.

Tbh I don’t see many people wearing high heels these days, but sometimes I’ll notice a women teetering round the park or the shops, barely able to walk and looking very uncomfortable, I’ve even seen a woman bowling in high heels.

They look so uncomfortable and impractical.

I think the opposite. They’ve not gregarious for a long while and the only people I see wearing them are mid - late 20 somethings

Two things - you can't be in London or even the south if you see young people in them.

Secondly, what the hell has gregarious autocorrected from? 😁. I just can't come up with anything.

A lot of you have a lot of feelings about something that doesn’t affect you at all!

heels look great. I can’t wear them because I don’t like sore feet and I’m already very tall. If I could, I would.

I do agree it doesn’t affect me. I don’t generally tend to give a stuff what anyone else is wearing but they truly do look so awful it’s hard not to notice.

Nobody is comfortable going for a walk round the zoo or taking their children to the park in high heels.

Fashions change. I’ve never been able to walk in them and prefer boots really but each to their own. My dd is in her 20’s and regularly wears 4” heels because she’s short

Takemeback84 · 28/05/2025 17:48

What makes you say that 🤣

Cos men always look when women wear them. Just my observation!

RitaAndFrank · 28/05/2025 17:53

My husband really doesn’t like heels on me, so not every husband does!

I just think that any heel higher than 2 inches looks ageing and unflattering. Kitten heels of the elegant variety are nice but anything higher is just odd-looking and dated these days.

minnienono · 28/05/2025 17:54

@thecatneuterer

my dd lives in the south and plenty of 20 somethings are in heels, they just aren’t favoured by Londoners taking public transport

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/05/2025 17:55

I agree, they are ridiculous. I have never worn them.

Imogene · 28/05/2025 17:57

Even on a thread about shoes, in with the casual ageism…

Bluebellwood129 · 28/05/2025 17:58

Most people I see wearing heels seem to be able to walk in them just fine. If you don't like them or can't walk in them, don't wear them.

Cheffymcchef · 28/05/2025 17:59

I think they look glamorous. But not worth the sore feet, and I don’t like how tall I look in them (over six foot).

I was just coming on to say the same thing, this thread is dripping in it.

Men look at women whatever they are wearing.

More reason not to wear them then 🤣

It all sounds very try hard and dated.

I don’t understand why presenters who just sit wear heals what’s the point?

It's the little bit at the front of the shoe.

🤭

gianfrancogorgonzola · 28/05/2025 18:03

I’m 5’9 and slim, have always preferred flats and am thrilled heels are now so dated. Always shocked to see them these days, even at classy events I think a pointed flat shoe is far more elegant.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 28/05/2025 18:04

I see shop windows full of heels and women out shopping wearing trainers and flats and wonder who is buying the heels. Are they just office wear? For parties?

nomas · 28/05/2025 18:05

DinaofCloud9 · 28/05/2025 18:01

Men look at women whatever they are wearing.

They do, but when I’m having a bad day and they’re looking at me, I can tell they’re thinking ‘There but for the grace of God go I’.

IfNot · 28/05/2025 18:05

Oh lord, I’d look like a gnome in pointed flat shoes I think! I like fairly chunky shoes, so a block heeled boot or sandal works. Honestly though, it never bothers me what other people wear on their feet.

SuziQuinto · 28/05/2025 18:06

Attitude. I'm 5' 1" and never wear heels, always flats, and am shorter than most pupils I teach. Confidence comes from within!

Renamed · 28/05/2025 18:06

I saw someone in heels today - pretty shoes, and not terribly high, but she was clearly bracing herself for each step. Ow. I think they’re “shoes” not shoes - they don’t function, they’re for show. And that pain induced mincing, or flat slapping down of each stiff foot - not sexy.

mrsstewpot · 28/05/2025 18:08

I used to love my heels! I think once you see the ridiculousness of them, you can't unsee it. Same with huge fake nails. Lots of people love them and yes understand the visual appeal. I guess I'm now a practical minded person who sees these things as a nuisance more than anything!

yabu, high heels make a woman look sexy! it elongates the leg and makes your walk sexier

as long as you can walk in them of course, otherwise they do look a mess

Yuk

I’ve just remembered where I saw someone wearing them recently.

It was Chester Zoo. A woman was hobbling around Chester Zoo in a pair of high heels.

I’m not keen on heels full stop but I can understand wearing them for a night out or special event. But why would anyone do it to themselves for the flaming zoo?

Edited

I’ve seen a woman in heels at Disney in Florida in the heat, madness

AlfredTheButtlerWithTwoTs · 28/05/2025 18:10

I quite like them on other people who can actually walk in them (I cannot)

I saw someone in Newcastle city centre one Saturday at about midday and she was honestly being held up by her boyfriend and her friend in these MASSIVE heels. I felt so sorry for her. She didn't seem drunk at all and I just thought "she has such a long night ahead of her"! I remember going on nights out in heels and regretting it within a couple of hours.

I do have some lowish heels which I like wearing. I can walk in them and they do seem to make my posture look a little better

DoYouReally · 28/05/2025 18:11

I love them, wear them far less as out of fashion but can't wait for then to come back. That said, I only wear comfortable one that I can walk in.

There's nothing worse than the Bambi on ice tottering along that some people attempt.

I'm short so kind of look like a dumpling without them.

Bring them back.
