To think high heels (especially when worn casually) look absolutely ridiculous?

I’m probably going to get absolutely flamed for this.

But aibu to think that high heels are a complete monstrosity? The only time I think they are passable is if it’s something very formal. For example TV presenters sitting on a couch, or attending an award ceremony. As they’re really being worn just for show.

Tbh I don’t see many people wearing high heels these days, but sometimes I’ll notice a women teetering round the park or the shops, barely able to walk and looking very uncomfortable, I’ve even seen a woman bowling in high heels.

They look so uncomfortable and impractical.

I wore high heels a lot back home, but I am currently overseas for a couple of years in a city with a lot of cobblestones (and a lot of walking) so I am mostly in flats. But I wore heels to the office or on a normal night out or family dinner, a lot, up to 18 months ago. I’m learning here to bring my heels in a shoe bag for the events but to get to and from those events in my flats (which go in the cloakroom for the events).

Not sure that's the witty come back you think it is. What do I have chip on my shoulder about? I think it's not nice to mock someone but not be willing to tell that person they look silly and maybe save them from more mocking. You think it's fun to snigger behind some's back. We are just different people with dfferent opinions of what constitutes "fun".

Oh get a life, you just seem to want an argument where there isn't one.

BashfulClam · 29/05/2025 19:46

I have no padding on the ball of my foot so even flat shoes can hurt. I gave up on heels long ago and don’t need them anyway I’m 5’9” with long monkey limbs.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 29/05/2025 19:47

I have leather flat shoes instead here - proper formal shoes, no loafers in sight.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 29/05/2025 19:50

People still buy, wear them and like them.
We're all different.

I am just 5ft tall so spent my teens, 20s and 30s wearing heels. Then lockdown happened and I worked from home for over a year, and wore slippers and flats all day. Now I struggle to walk in heels!

if you wear heels constantly your calf muscles shrink to adapt to them, but as I have discovered after having a break it’s very difficult to walk in heels like I used to do!

NowI just wear them around the office or on a night out!

It's the usual,

Ooh I've stopped colouring my hair, everyone should too.

I now use bar shampoo, you need to do so too.

I don't like heels/can'twalk in them anymore, so no-one else should wear them either.

Skinny jeans are so yesterday, you need to stop wearing them now.

The dress and white trainers combo is so done, you can't seriously be wearing it still.

I see lots of things that aren't my preference everyday, only I don't get offended by it. People can wear what they choose.

And shock horror, sometimes, women choose to dress for themselves.

If you're happy in your own skin, why do you care what somone else is wearing.

This is so bang on. I thought I was judgemental but honestly this thread is ga ga.

Ihateboris · 29/05/2025 20:32

Well I don't care if they're dated, I love wearing high heels. I'll be wearing these on Saturday night ...I can walk in them just fine, and I'm 54 years old. I say wear whatever makes you feel good!

When I was younger I loved high heels and even used to dance in them. Those days are long gone. I think they look good on women with dressy clothes on. I do see those extreme high heels in thrift stores a lot that look like they've never been worn(probably because they're so uncomfortable).

I love them. I own probably over 200 pairs of designer shoes at the moment and 90 percent of them are heels. I literally love everything about them. My only regret in life is not wearing them more! That and bikinis, I wish I'd basically worn nothing but a bikini and some strappy choos for my entire 20s.

Me too! I’ve about 50 pairs of designer shoes that stare at me reproachfully every day - please take us out!

I’m getting too old to party and Covid killed it for work 😭

I do wear them as often as I can, just not enough - I’m the one dressed up to the 9s just to go pub, I and my clothes and shoes don’t get out enough! 😁

IfNot · 28/05/2025 17:41

I’ve got lots of pretty comfortable heels. Not super high but 3-4 inches. I bloody love them. And I can run and dance in them let alone walk!
And you may not like women in heels but your husband does 😁

That's fine as long as I don't have to wear them. He can toddle off after the heels if he is so overcome by them that he can't contain himself.

newmama2023 · 29/05/2025 20:47

I looove my high heels, i feel super sexy in them and would wear them every day to everywhere if i could. My husband loves them too

MadKittenWoman · 29/05/2025 21:29

I’m only 4 ‘ 9” so used to wear heels a lot. I now usually wear flats but I like a wedge or block heel sandal / boot for going out or for smart occasions. I do have some gorgeous stiletto sandals which I no longer wear but won’t be getting rid of, though.

Cojones · 29/05/2025 21:41

I loved my high heels, was rarely out of them in my teens and early twenties. These days I don’t wear them often as they hurt my back if I wear them too long but I would if I could.

These days I’m about my platform Converse flats or sturdy shoes 🥿 👟 but if someone wants to wear heels 👠 let them crack on.

Devonshiregal · 29/05/2025 22:08

PeapodMcgee · 28/05/2025 17:34

Why assume that people want to look 'sexy'?

They look ridiculous, yanbu.

Yooouuuabu. They’re lovely pieces of design - when they’re beautifully made and worn to the right event. Obviously girls teetering down the high st on Saturday night (if thet even do this anymore?) look tacky and silly because they’re wearing tacky shoes and walking silly.

MarketSt · 29/05/2025 22:12

I think this at work now.

Very few people at all who wear heels.

Those who do either look old fashioned or like they’re playing dress up.

They’ll come back around. Still have their place for formal occasions but for office wear very much over.

IsThePopeCatholic · 29/05/2025 22:15

High heels are for men pleasers. They show you’re submissive and lack natural confidence. I always feel sorry for women in heels. They’re trying so hard, but just look ridiculous.

Oh turn it in 😅

I wear heels because I like how they look, I collect shoes and love having different styles/different colours for different outfits, it genuinely brings me joy. Do I wear them all the time, no, do I wear trainers, flats and block heels too, yes. Do I love heels, hell yes!

There is nothing submissive or man pleasing about me, trust me, my Husband would just about die laughing at that. I just enjoy and get joy out of a lovely pair of heels, it’s as simple as that.

Not everything has some deeper hidden meaning, keep your sorrow for people who really need it.

So much limited thinking capacity for some, you've got to laugh.

Just because you think of men constantly @IsThePopeCatholic , doesn't mean every woman does too.

It's possible to like things that men also like, it's not exclusively for men.

yabu, high heels make a woman look sexy! it elongates the leg and makes your walk sexier

as long as you can walk in them of course, otherwise they do look a mess

Agreed ..
High heels are really sexy with a nice dress , skirt , pencil leg suit pants .
Like PP said , once you can walk in them ..

I am sure you’re right, because it would be absolutely impossible for a woman to know her own mind and choose what she likes wouldn’t it? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Toootss · 30/05/2025 07:23

They make you look taller and therefore slimmer - so will always be worn by some

Yeah , you’re so right , submissive with bad self confidence 😂
You sound so silly !
lots of women love heels & can walk in them , me being one of them 😊

I have many pairs of beautiful high heels that I only wear on special occasions. I feel very elegant when I wear mine. Almost every female attending a recent day at the races was wearing high heels.
