To think this is not acceptable for a “breakfast bundle” at Airbnb?

Me and DP went away for a night away and picked to stay at an Airbnb on Saturday night. We checked in about 3 and had to leave at 9 on Sunday. It was expensive (around £150 for the night) but it was a nice place. The owner messaged me before we got there and asked if we would like to add on a breakfast box each. Sounded like a nice way to refuel for another day of walking so I said yes. A request was sent for £20, which seemed okay for a breakfast for 2.

When I got there, there was 2 buns from Aldi, a tin of beans from Aldi, 2 bacon rashers in the packet, 2 sausages and 2 hash browns, and 10 cherry tomatoes. It was in a plastic tub in the fridge.

I am not a complainer at all. I really don’t want to complain, but I really don’t think this is justified. Aibu?

Why would you agree to pay for nothing that you don’t know exactly what you’d be receiving?

We are vegetarian so would have to ask what we would be getting and inform them of our dietary needs but even so you should have checked with them what was in Lisa’s in the price.

TonTonMacoute · 26/05/2025 17:15

It does sound crappy and a rip off, but I'm afraid I agree with PPs, I would never cough up £20 without asking what was in the box.

Delphiniumandlupins · 26/05/2025 17:27

I am laughing at the people commenting that you are paying for the convenience of the Airbnb host shopping and packaging the breakfast. You paid a premium so they could open a pack of Aldi bacon and remove all but 2 slices! 🤣

True I’ve never stayed at an Air BnB, I wouldn’t touch it, too much risk in terms of quality and very little come back as far as I can tell. I have stayed in many Premier Inns if I just need to stay somewhere for one night, I think it’s usually around £120-£150 per night plus breakfast.

I've stayed in loads and never had a bad experience. Always top quality & for a family it works out much better than a hotel as you get a lounge & kitchen

AutumnLover1989 · 26/05/2025 17:32

For £20 that's piss poor. Should have included some nice pastries, fresh juice, maybe some fruit. And should have doubled up on the sausages, bacon and hash browns too.

TiredArse · 26/05/2025 17:38

That’s ridiculously overpriced for what you got.

For £20? It was all in Aldi packaging!

Mumsnet love Aldi

Crunchymum · 26/05/2025 17:44

So you were left one sausage and one rasher of bacon each? For £20?

Abysmal. Complain / ask for a refund.

Cranarc · 26/05/2025 18:05

They left you opened packets of bacon, sausages and hash browns??? I hate complaining but I would make a fuss about that.

Stepfordian · 26/05/2025 14:27

Is £150 a night expensive? Surely that’s Premier Inn prices? I’m not sure what you can really expect if you stay at an Air BnB, if you want quality you have to go for a proper hotel or cottage company.

We stayed at a reasonably nice Premier Inn in London earlier this year for less than that.

Also a couple of months ago had a night at an airport hotel, Radisson Blu at Manchester Airport, and I think that was £115 for the night.

For £150 a night I would expect somewhere pretty special. Or maybe a bigger property that could accommodate more than two.

VivIsBlonde · 26/05/2025 18:32

We always pay extra for breakfast when we stay anywhere near Bristol when going away, it’s usually £10 pp we get bread, mini boxed cereals, croissants and milk/tea/coffee left, saves us the hassle of having to find somewhere to eat for breakfast!!
id be more than happy with having the ingredients left for a cooked breakfast!

Tagyoureit · 26/05/2025 18:35

That's pants!

But a 9am check out is really bad too!! I wouldn't have stayed just for that or stayed and had breakfast elsewhere if we had to be up that early.

5foot5 · 26/05/2025 18:38

I know someone who lets out a lovely little annex on Airbnb for about £40 a night. Cooking facilities are admittedly limited - kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge - but she makes that clear in the description.

She includes cereals, bread, butter and preserves as part of the deal and usually provides delicious home made scones too.

OP I think your host ripped you off.

SlightlyFurther · 26/05/2025 14:03

Yes, I’d agree. I mean, it wouldn’t work for me, as I’m vegetarian, but it sounds like a just about adequate provision for an ‘English breakfast’.

What were you expecting? Did you ask in advance?

They could have purchased all that themselves for around £8. Or even stopped off somewhere for breakfast on the way home for a lot less than £20.

Same with us. Even just for DH and i now, means one can stay up watch tv if the other one wants to go to bed without disturbing each other

To shop for yourself and your household, yes, sure; but not to pay 20 quid for a fancy-sounding 'breakfast box' that turns out to consist of opened packets of bacon, and stingy amounts of everything.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 26/05/2025 19:45

I'm starting to think they gave you the wrong box.

I reckon they gave you 4 of everything and a box of eggs, all wrapped in separate little fancy glass dishes, and meant to take the rest home for their own little single persons brekkie.

They left the wrong box behind.

That's my final theory.

bruffin · 26/05/2025 20:29

Anyone else worried about the Hashbrown. I have nevet seen hash browns that wasnt frozen.
Did they leave in the fridge to defrost?

In that case, anyone with half a brain cell would realise their mistake when they got home & apologise to OP

HappyLols · 26/05/2025 20:53

Did they also charge you for the first "B" too - the bed? Was that extra??

Why AirBnb hosts think the second "B" is optional/non-existent always makes me wonder.

By rights it should be called AirB as most times no breakfast is provided.

Airbnb doesn't include breakfast unless it states it does. It's an accommodation platform. It's very tiresome when people try to pretend they don't understand that.

Patronising, much.

So a bed and breakfast place doesn't include breakfast? Yes, of course, that's logical.

Airbnb is not bed and breakfast. It's a booking platform for a wide variety of accommodation options. Many are self contained holiday lets and therefore obviously don't include breakfast.

bruffin · 26/05/2025 16:49

From ocado

10 rashers bacon
6 heck sausages
tin M&S baked beans
Mccains Hashbrowns
6 ocado soft brown rolls
6 salad tomatoes
for

£9.40

So yes you have been ripped off.

Don't be silly. Businesses selling food don't charge how much the food cost for the shop. That wouldn't be much of a business would it.

I'd be more bothered by the 9am checkout. Even 10am annoys me tbh. I would've chosen a slower morning and had breakfast out. In fact we did that this morning at our bank holiday weekend air bnb

Air bnb isn't a bed and breakfast place 😂 same way as Facebook isn't a face on a book
