To think this is not acceptable for a “breakfast bundle” at Airbnb?

Me and DP went away for a night away and picked to stay at an Airbnb on Saturday night. We checked in about 3 and had to leave at 9 on Sunday. It was expensive (around £150 for the night) but it was a nice place. The owner messaged me before we got there and asked if we would like to add on a breakfast box each. Sounded like a nice way to refuel for another day of walking so I said yes. A request was sent for £20, which seemed okay for a breakfast for 2.

When I got there, there was 2 buns from Aldi, a tin of beans from Aldi, 2 bacon rashers in the packet, 2 sausages and 2 hash browns, and 10 cherry tomatoes. It was in a plastic tub in the fridge.

I am not a complainer at all. I really don’t want to complain, but I really don’t think this is justified. Aibu?

What pray be a square sausage @Bex271 ?

Should have mentioned it’s a Scottish Breakfast Hamper!
it’s basically pork/beef mix made into a kind of block then sliced.. kind of like a square burger really! Can have it on a full breakfast or in a roll - often accompanied by a can of Irn bru 😂

Brackenfield · 26/05/2025 15:41

I'd expect orange juice, coffee and some croissants as well. I wouldn't bother raising it with them (ask what's included next time) but I'd mention the poor value in the reviews

JDM625 · 26/05/2025 15:44

@JustMyView13 The £20 charge included the effort of the owner of going to the shop & collecting it for you.

The owner/cleaner/whoever hadn't come straight from the shop though, all the packets were open! Unless the person was driving home with loose sausages and bacon in their car! 😆

the owner said “it’s an amazing deal, you’ll have plenty to take home with you”

???? The portions were tiny!

That's not enough food for 1 let alone to take home.

I would give them a bad review as this is very poor experience.

AngelicKaty · 26/05/2025 15:46

@Scottsleeping YANBU. There weren't even any eggs included!

That makes a huge difference. I would definitely complain. What were you meant to take home?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 26/05/2025 15:48

I bloody love square sausage …

JustMyView13 · 26/05/2025 15:49

@JDM625 Clearly they got from Aldi to the tub, and into the property. They didn’t do that on their own. There’s always a price to convenience.

Ultimately if someone offers a breakfast package & you accept without clarifying what’s included - how can you complain after the event?

She's probably keeping the rest in her fridge to divvy up among the next mugs guests!

That’s the owners prerogative!
Clearly people accept without checking first - they’re onto a winner! 🤣

Topsyturvy78 · 26/05/2025 15:50

No eggs no black pudding or mushrooms. I want at least two sausages and bacon each and a bun for a breakfast is odd. Can't wack it in the toaster for beans on toast. Would have been better to stop at a cafe.

Sasha07 · 26/05/2025 15:51

@Bex271 Whereabouts in Scotland are you? That sounds amazing! (Though I am on a diet and starving right now!) The things I would do for a decent bit of square sausage 🤤🤤with brown sauce 🤤🤤

Why am I on this thread... 😭 But yeah, OP, that's actually a cruel trick to offer such a little amount for that price! Definitely leave a review so others are aware of what £20 will get them!

Tulipsontoast · 26/05/2025 15:51

So everything had been opened, half removed and left in the packaging?

Panterusblackish · 26/05/2025 15:51

Paellama · 26/05/2025 14:32

I really dont get why so many responses are incredulously asking what was expected for £20. Clearly a lot more than opened packets and leftovers. As a minimum, fresh bread, butter, milk, juice, cereal, fruit, and maybe things like eggs and bacon that need cooking, or otherwise pastries. Like a hotel buffet.

Exactly!

The Cote breakfast box is only a fiver more and contains all sorts including a water bottle.

They've robbed the OP blind.

I voted YABU for helping to price more people out of owning their own home.

I’d be more bothered about the 9am checkout.

I'm more bothered about driving 2 minutes to a shop, whilst on a walking holiday!

Wall13 · 26/05/2025 15:52

Should the original cost not include breakfast, after all your paying for B&B?

SeaDragon17 · 26/05/2025 15:52

LoafofSellotape · 26/05/2025 14:14

What did you think would be included? Sounds ok to me. They're not doing to provide it for free, are they? I think I check next time.

One sausage, one rasher, half a tin of
beans, a bun and 5 cherry tomatoes for a tenner?

I used to run a cafe and that’s a push as a cafe price, let alone cook your own from Aldi!

ApartFromAllThat · 26/05/2025 15:34

You're really going to buy them a pound each of butter, jam and honey you mad thing? And at £4.65, there's no definitely no posh muesli going in the breakfast box.

Well, I still have to buy a full block of butter/ jar of jam/jar of honey. If you break it down into portions you are supposed to label each portion with ingredients ( Natashas Law) Or you can buy the tiny pots. Tiny pots work out at 25p each.

She said she wanted posh muesli, even from a supermarket its over £3. If you break it into portions again you have to spend ages copying down the ingredients.

So with tiny pots and supermarket muesli the host would be spending £16 ish, in my case spending over an hour traveling and shopping, half an hour copying down ingredients all for a £4 profit

I send a msg and ask were the boxes mixed up as you only got X items for 20 pound. See what they say!

It sounds acceptable. Not great, not amazing.

2 sausages, 2 bacon rashers and 2 hash browns for two people...?

Also sounds like random leftovers

You'll need something more substantial than that just to complete all your Airbnb checkout chores

LittleBitofBread · 26/05/2025 15:58

Silvers11 · 26/05/2025 15:26

It's a flat beef 'square' sausage and it's proper name is Lorne Sausage. It was originally from Glasgow, and is often sold up here ( Scotland)

From Google ''The Lorne sausage, also known as square sausage, flat sausage or slice, is a traditional Scottish food item made from minced meat, rusk and spices. Although termed a sausage, no casing is used to hold the meat in shape, hence it is usually served as square slices from a formed block. It is a common component of the traditional Scottish breakfast.''

Oh God, Lorne sausage on a well-fired white roll...
And ice-cold Irn-Bru out of a glass bottle.
Breakfast of champions and hangover cure par excellence.

I used to live in Glasgow. I miss it sometimes Grin

I was expecting a nice breakfast, not something I could have picked up from the Aldi that was a 2 minute drive from the house. As others have said, we could have got a cooked breakfast for around the same price at a cafe and have no preparing or clearing up to do

With checkout at 9am, I'd have checked out and gone out for breakfast. Too mushc of a rush and too expensive a price it I've got to make it myself AND clear up afterwards.

Actually, I'd have gone to a hotel if it was just one night and had my breakfast with a later checkout (it's usually 11am at a hotel).
