Curious to know what opinions you see constantly on mumsnet that you think “Am I the only person that disagrees with that!?”

While for some women it has obviously been a godsend, the current focus on the menopause is ultimately damaging and destructive for most.

Landlords are fine if they accept they're running a business and need to adhere to the legal standards (some insultingly low, but whatever) and don't behave unreasonably in the way you'd hope an actual business wouldn't be unreasonable if you were dealing with them. The worst landlords are the ones who simultaneously want to be a business but also want to remind you whenever they can that you should be grateful for what they're offering you (I'm not grateful to utilities companies, I pay my bills and except a service in response), they're doing you a favour by doing things like 'repairing a 20 year old boiler that has packed in through no fault of the tenant'. These are generally usually those with 1 or 2 rental properties, the worst ones being those who are letting out their old homes and who never fail to whine 'this was my famileeeeeeee home' when you point out the reason the lino ripped was because their dodgy mate installed something that fell off the back of a lorry and not because you're disrespecting their ancestral line.

I can't speak for that poster but I certainly do.

You can’t value babies that much then if you think they are to be used to punish women for having sex.

Cosyblankets · 23/05/2025 08:23

I've never used the term unhinged.
Nor do i know anyone IRL who says it but it's bandied about on here every other thread

Interesting. And how do you think the men should be punished?

See you are living up to the spirit of the thread!

Rent money is dead money. You are paying someone else's mortgage or funding their lifestyle/pension. They aren't doing it for the goodness of their hearts, regardless of any anecdotes you have about your friends.

I have no problem with the capitalist principle of making profit, but I draw the line at making profit off of the most basic human necessity of shelter.

We also need food? Groceries stores and even local smaller stores make profit?

Basic need as well isn't it.

But the amount of profit big supermarket chains like Tesco make, or the big energy companies, during cost of living crisis/energy crisis is disgusting. Very different to a greengrocer earning enough to live off.

Wow, we are paying someone else's mortgage! Thanks for telling me, I would never have guessed Confused Incidentally, you completely missed the point of my telling you about my friend, which was that her tenants purchased their own house, something you insist can't be done by renters.

So, all landlords are evil and should be put in jail. Where are those of us who can't afford to/don't want to purchase properties to live? Would you like to bring back the workhouse and ship us all off to it?

Is shelter the only basic human necessity? What about food and clothes - should no-one be allowed to make a profit from supplying them either? Where I live we pay to visit the GP, should that be free as well (bearing in mind that if it were the GPs would all shut up shop)? You are living in an idealistic world, and those of us who have been around a while know that things just don't work like that.

No-one is forcing you to rent a property, leave those of us who do alone, along with those who provide the properties for us to rent.

You support forced birth as a punishment for "unplanned pregnancy"?

Punishment is a strange way of looking at it. It’s about taking responsibility for your actions. Planned or unplanned. Realistically with the availability of the morning after pill (which I’ve taken myself due to a condom bursting) abortions rates for unplanned pregnancies should be falling. It just seems and I might be wrong, that there is this mindset that’s it’s ok I can terminate.

FedupofArsenalgame · 22/05/2025 22:43

No but not all women suffer these symptoms. I had a few hot flashes ( ovaries removedat 50) but my own mother said she suffered none of this at all so it's not a given it will happen

I never said it was a given that all women suffer perimenopause symptoms.

I actually appreciate your honesty. This is what many forced birthers think, that children should be unwillingly brought into the world to punish women (they're oddly silent on what punishment the fathers deserve). However, most of them realise how that sounds when they actually say it (given your username I guess you do too) and so they scramble around to find some other justification instead.

But yes, this is what kids are for to many people and how they view both women and children,so in a way, thank you for laying out there so people can see how important abortion is and just why so many oppose it.

And how do men take responsibility for their contribution?

Blueskies3 · 23/05/2025 09:10

I am not a fan of women over 45 wearing anything short or with cleavage, it ages people. No one in their 40s/ 50s can look like they are in their 20s again.

Terminating a pregnancy that would be disastrous to continue is taking responsibility.

Transwomen are women.
Transmen are men.

The whole public toilet debate is just ridiculous.

Nobody needs to have four children. Three is more than enough.

Two is more than enough! It annoys me no end when people want to have more and more that they can't really afford, to the detriment of their existing children.

But people make money off food, water, fuel..?

I totally get your principle but life just isn’t that simple.

Not everyone wants a mortgage. It depends what stage in your life you are in and how rooted to the spot you are. Yes some people are stuck in long term rentals wanting to buy- and there should be help for those people to get on the property ladder- but for lots and lots of people they need / want rentals for a brief time for a range of reasons!!!

Surely it depends on what shape you're in? I would rather see a fit forty something in a mini dress than an obese eighteen year old.

So women should risk permanent disability or even death to bring into the world a baby that is unwanted so will likely go into care with all the risks and negatives associated with that, just because contraception failed?

SleepingStandingUp · 23/05/2025 09:38

That having sons of awful and a guarantee that you'll die alone with your dil's dancing on your grave and your grandkids obsessed of who you are.

That being a sahp makes you a lazy / vulnerable/ stupid woman / bad mom who's raising her kids with no work ethic
That being a wohp makes you a selfish woman who's letting someone else raise their children because they can't be bothered.
