To absolutely not want closer ties to Europe

What is the matter with Stammer toadying up to the EU. We voted Out. Has he forgotten. I switched the TV off when I heard the word contribution and free movement. Here we go again. Shafted and ripped off at every turn and following their dumb rules. It's groundhog day. I'm furious.

What dumb rules exactly?

This is so true. People were not interested in explanations. The country had apparently had enough of experts. People voted for Brexit without understanding the implications.

As you say, it hasn't delivered from them so now they're looking to Reform. The triumph of hope over experience, I suppose.

And when Reform fails to deliver for them, what then? I dread to think what new horrors the idiots will wreak upon us all when they realise that Nigel doesn't have any answers.

Exactly. The ‘Let’s get Brexit done’ slogan was basically capitalising on the impatience, ignorance and credulousness of people who thought it was too hard to grasp the implications in terms of foreign policy, trade agreements, the implications for the Good Friday Agreement etc etc.

aylis · 19/05/2025 15:59

Hang on, do people still think that by leaving the EU that we no longer follow European judgements? Because have I got news for you.

RedToothBrush · 19/05/2025 15:59

BatchCookBabe · 19/05/2025 15:58

We are NOT going back into the EU.

HTH.

Hands up. Who wants an another referendum and months of referendum campaigning?

Go on. Who's that daft...?

I just object to being governed by EU laws and the fact they could overturn decisions made in our courts. I don't want that.

Errr, NEWSFLASH: You live under UK law. The EU doesn't have jurisdiction here. It never did because it was always up to our own parliament whether or not it ratified any proposed laws or just did their own thing.

This is a trade deal and a reset, with some common sense stuff like allowing use of the egates at passport control and allowing young people greater freedom of movement around the Schengen area for travel and study. It would have been very useful for us when my DD was on her year abroad with university, not to mention the savings of £100s on visas that weren't necessary before Brexshit.

You've not shown yourself to be very wise here. In fact, it is clear that you know fuck all about the subject and are talking bollocks.

Why should the UK and the EU not have closer trading relationships? We've sought them with China, India and the US. Surely you don't seriously think that we should ignore our closest and largest geographical trading neighbours!!?? That would make no sense at all.

Do you think we should trade with nobody and just stand in long queues at border control because we can't use egates? How backwards thinking of you. You go and do that if you want to. Those of us with any sanity left will not be joining you.

BatchCookBabe · 19/05/2025 15:59

#FakeNews I have been to a dozen different beaches in the UK in the past 3-4 years (In Wales, Scotland, and England,) and there has been NOTHING like what is described in that 'news article.' Not a thing.

Utter nonsense all of it.

Katherine9 · 19/05/2025 16:00

Shwish · 19/05/2025 14:08

What do you want then?

I think she's suggesting that the elected government abides by the democratically expressed wishes of the people.

aylis · 19/05/2025 16:00

BatchCookBabe · 19/05/2025 15:58

We are NOT going back into the EU.

HTH.

Get mad 😘

Edited

No thanks. 😆

anniegun · 19/05/2025 16:01

Another Brexiteer who finds it all too complicated so just relies on the headlines in The Daily Mail

luckylavender · 19/05/2025 16:01

@Viviennemary - give specific examples of when that has happened.

Madcatdudette · 19/05/2025 16:01

@WestwardHo1 I have read the OP’s comments.
I don’t want to pass judgement on knowledge or lack of, because my knowledge is at best rudimentary.
I just think that if posters were not insulted they (hopefully) may read the comments and be informed rather than offended.
Facts and figures don’t often offend people.
Truthfully, I have no clue about fishing or quotas either. I would say that there are some very intelligent people on here who could help but why would I want to continue to look for informative posts when every other one is sneering 🤷‍♀️

RedToothBrush · 19/05/2025 16:01

Fix potholes and start weekly bin collections. Tell them it was an EU regulation that we did.

That'd fix Brexit in a jiffy.

BatchCookBabe · 19/05/2025 16:01

aylis · 19/05/2025 16:00

Get mad 😘

Mad about what hun? Us returning to the EU ain't gonna happen. I'm very happy, not mad. Smile

DH said recently, he thinks we need to have Reform win the next election.

Just so we can see just how shit Farage actually is and we can get it all out of our system.

(He hates Farage).

I will admit that the same thing has crossed my mind. Lance the boil, as it were. But then what?

If I actually trusted that the failure of Farage would see a move away from the right back towards the centre, then I might actually be tempted to say bring it on, let's see Nigel squirm and put an end to the far right nonsense once and for all.

But I don't trust the electorate not to move even further towards the right once they realise that Nigel is a charlatan. We don't yet know who might emerge from the wings to pick up the pieces of whatever chaos and destruction a Reform might leave behind. On desperate times, people often make really stupid decisions...

I think she's suggesting that the elected government abides by the democratically expressed wishes of the people.

Even if it turns out that those democratically expressed wishes have done monumental damage to the country?

No one is allowed to try and repair any of that damage? Ever?

FrenchandSaunders · 19/05/2025 16:03

Oh OP you're really not representing the leavers in a good light are you ... it's all rather embarrassing to be honest.

RedToothBrush · 19/05/2025 16:03

Well I can't say I agreed with Mr Toothbrush for many of these reasons....

ginasevern · 19/05/2025 16:03

I doubt that anyone who articulates themselves by saying "dumb rules" has the first clue about anything very much, let alone the EU.

moveoveralice · 19/05/2025 16:04

Panterusblackish · 19/05/2025 15:38

Oh please get a grip.

Brexit is a disaster. We were led there by lying self interested rich cunts or wannabe rich cunts.

Cunts like misogynistic racist Farage. We are poorer and more isolated as a result.

We had an absolutely fair say when we had a seat at the table. That's what our MEPs were for.

You know, like lovely Nige who so diligently represented us in all aspects of the fishing industry attending all necessary meetings. Definitely not just pocketing the EU schilling and doing fuck all.......

I hope Mr Starmer can take every legitimate step possible towards rejoining the EU. I'd like to see our young people have the chance of a better future given back to them. Loads of the gammons who voted leave because they didn't have the first clue about politics, economics or how the EU actually works should hopefully be dead by now.

The EU aren't some fascist overlord like Trump, they're a democratic institution. We are a sadder, poorer, more divided and greyer place outside of it.

Well said.

Of the 42 EU fisheries committee meetings that took place, the lying, conning shyster turned up for 1 on them.

It depresses me how many people have fallen for Farage. People who he would cross the road to avoid on any given day.

Figgygal · 19/05/2025 16:04

Were you outraged by the India and US trade deals too?
They didn't mean we were "under their laws" neither does this.
Seriously you don't even know why you're outraged do you?

Cososom · 19/05/2025 16:04

BatchCookBabe · 19/05/2025 16:01

What is it that you specifically love about being out of the EU, @BatchCookBabe? What has improved in the course of your daily life and / or work?

Why NOT?

Can you give a valid reason?
