Why is Alice Evans Gruffudd homeless?

Doesn’t she have any famous friends? Where has all her money gone? Does she have to live in L.A? It just all seems bizarre, just move somewhere cheaper.

Again, how do you know this?

A: you don’t have a clue about his financial status then or now

Actually both their full finances were submitted to the court as part of the proceedings so you can go and check for yourself.

I think what Alice has done shows she is clearly in the grip of a mental illness - I said that. But I said Ioan wasn’t “father of the year” because he moved in his new partner when his daughters were obviously struggling and should have been his priority, rather than a new relationship.

As a single parent, it pisses me off when any parent (male or female) doesn’t put their children before their partner. We choose to have children, if you can’t manage to put them first for a couple of decades of your life, then you shouldn’t have them imo.

None of this makes Alice Evans a good person or what she has done okay - but there are children in this mess who should have been both their parents first priority.

If this was other way around would you say Ioan was 'clearly in the grip of a mental illness' or would you just say he was an abuser?

If Ioan had posted so many seemingly unhinged rants on social media and was estranged from most of his family and friends (as well as the described emotional abuse and stalking)? Then yes, I would describe Ioan as likely having some sort of mental illness- as generally “evil” people (as Alice has been described on here) are usually better at hiding what they have done and Alice seems determined to make everything as public as possible, often to her own and her children’s detriment. That doesn’t seem a sign of a well person to me.

Head over to Tattle, they have all the receipts on this one!

Swettyelizabeth · 15/05/2025 17:52

Just had a look at her Instagram, someones really kindly trying to convince her she should get a job at Target. Obviously she's got lots of reasons why she can't.

I think the problem is that we see it a lot. Hell, I even do it myself. A mother kills her children and we say she must be stressed, have hormonal problems. A man commits familicide and he is evil. What we should be doing is looking at the individual situations and basing them off that, but we tend to generalise.
Men can’t be abused, men can’t be sexually abused, men have to be strong mentally - we see it all the time and it’s a narrative we need to change.

In this instance, I don’t know Alice’s motivations and as I have said previously, I sincerely hope she gets support and lives the rest of her life happily. But no matter the motivation, it isn’t fair on Ioan and it isn’t fair on the children. I have mental health issues that can get very severe, but I absolutely cannot take them out on my husband and children. Alice needs to sort her life out for the sake of her kids, get help for her addictions and support for her unhappiness. She runs the risk of alienating her children and having nothing left if she doesn’t. But Ioan doesn’t have to stay and be abused, no matter the cause of her issues.

LilyJosephine · 15/05/2025 18:16

No it’s definitely not fair on the children, and to honest with everything I’ve heard about Alice, I wish Ioan had felt able to leave sooner (and of course someones mental illness doesn’t make it any easier for the person they are abusing).

I just wonder if things would have been different if Ioan had been able to hold off on moving in his partner so soon - it would have been nice if either parent could have really put their children first (and I think the parental alienation would have been more difficult if there hadn’t been a new woman in their Dad’s life so quickly which made it easier to sway the children imo).

Arraminta · 15/05/2025 18:46

When all of this started, I remember reading an interview with one of Ioan's best friends since school. He said that Alice issued an ultimatum to make Ioan marry her, and that he had cold feet before the wedding, but didn't know how to get out of it. None of his friends wanted him to marry Alice, she was described as being 'a nasty tempered bully'. And reading between the lines, Ioan was a bit of a pushover and easily dominated by Alice. Apparently his parents pleased with him to not marry her?

I think all through their relationship Alice ruled him with a rod of iron and revelled in it. When he finally escaped I think she went berserk because she no longer had control. And control is everything to Alice. Everything.

I genuinely believe she is fully prepared to burn down her own life and her daughters' lives if that means that Ioan's new (happy) life will burn down too. She has that classic 'family annihilation' mentality.

I hear what you're saying but I honestly don't think it would have been much different, even if he'd waited years before meeting/introducing someone else. She was making access to the kids difficult before she knew about Bianca and TBH she comes across as having such fixed ideas and anger towards him that I think if he magicked up $10 million for her to stop, she wouldn't.

This has been going on for years and shows no signs of getting any better. I feel very, very sorry for the children impacted by it.

The parental alienation started before Ioan even left.

LoveTKO · 15/05/2025 19:57

She sounds dangerous. Imagine her reaction if Ioan and the new partner have a child. He must be exhausted with Alice. He is well rid.

Wouldn't he do better to focus on the two children who already exist at this stage? Parents have no business having additional children if their existing kids are not being well cared for.

LilyJosephine · 15/05/2025 20:05

MereNoelle · 15/05/2025 19:00

I didn’t know that but it wouldn’t surprise me.

However I still wish for his and the children’s sake that Ioan had been smarter and not done the classic “break up with wife, separate from family and quickly move in with the new younger model” aka the Tom Ellis and many, many other men before him playbook (and if he truly follows their playbook it will be a 2nd family with the new wife soon too).

I really think there would be more people (especially other women) who would have more sympathy for Ioan if he hadn’t done that- but had simply left Alice and lived the single life for a time, trying to get contact with his kids. Not everyone has seen the court reports and knows what Alice has done, but there will be a lot of women out there whose husbands have left them and their kids for a younger woman and will therefore have sympathy for Alice. Its a shame for both him and the kids.

Bournlucky · 15/05/2025 12:46

Oh come on. He could have rented somewhere for a short period of time and focused on his girls. Many do this with a lot less.

Alice seems unstable and he seems selfish. Poor daughters, they’ll have no life at all

I was just going to say my understanding from court docs was that despite her having access to way more funds than him- he hardly earned anything in 2022 and she was still in former marital home and had over £100k - he was still funding the mortgage, and having to give her thousands a month in support. He was on on his arse and relying on the new girlfriend financially, I don't think it was as straightforward as him being able to get his own place near the girls at all.

Tomatotater · 15/05/2025 20:13

Hasn't the new girlfriend got MS or something? I thought I remember reading that and that Alice revealed her private medical information to the press. I don't think she can have children.

She does have MS, but that doesn’t necessarily stop you from having children. There’s nothing to suggest that that’s what they’re planning though.

I'm not sure where you're looking, but the overwhelming majority of women (and men) I've seen on message boards etc commenting on the situation are on his side, not hers.

That’s positive then. I understood that Ioan had said Alice has damaged his career and that he was struggling to get work since the split- which implied to me that some people weren’t on “his side”. Happy to hear that’s not the case.

Someone else conjectured upthread that he may be seen as a reputational risk to a project because of Alice's titting about.

But I haven't seen a groundswell of general public opinion against him on message boards or newspaper comment sections. Must be killing her.

Poonu · 15/05/2025 22:39

Ioan is married to Bianca she's not his GF

I was the one who suggested this.

Most people aren’t on either side - they simply aren’t famous enough for most people to care. Which means that Alice’s social media onslaught does run the risk of damaging a project if she gets the headlines as a result of Ioan getting a job.

He’s simply not well known enough for employers to pay for PR to counteract her lies, not when they can just hire someone else for the job. Nobody is watching ‘an Ioan Griffiths programme’, they are watching an interesting programme that ‘that guy from Horncastle’ (for example) is in.

Hiring ‘that guy from Downton Abbey’ (again for example) has the same level of name recognition and none of the hassle.

TheHouseofGirth · 15/05/2025 22:47

I only just realised that Ioan Gruffudd is not the same as Iwan Rheon from GoT.
They look like brothers!

Thing is, alleged cheating aside he seems like quite a nice chap. And I remember him being very popular when he was in Hornblower, he’s not a bad looking guy (albeit not my type). I wonder if he had stayed in the U.K. if he would have had more success.

I do think this. He would be getting regular work if he’d stayed here, with a far more enjoyable career.

I think he would have. Apparently his Welsh accent didn’t translate so well into ‘Hollywood’. I think he would have been in lots of British productions if he’d been in the U.K. theatre work too in all likelihood.
