Fucking SHEIN

Spudthespanner · 13/05/2025 21:27

Every shopping result when I search for something on Google is bloody SHEIN. I’ve never shopped there in my puff!

“light summer shirts”

SHEIN SHEIN SHEIN SHEIN SHEIN plus a few other obviously bullshit Chinese companies just to spice things up a bit.

Fuck sake.

A good start would be not to fucking shop at SHEIN though.

So block/ignore Shein, Temu etc. However, it seems people wouldn't even know (or couldn't care less) about what goes in their shopping basket at the supermarket and will happily shop in ignorance without giving it a second thought.

ThatCyanCat · 13/05/2025 22:36

Yeah. Never bought from them, never will, but they are fucking everywhere.

I’ve tried blocking as per the advice on this thread but it doesn’t work. I’ll try using the “- SHEIN” trick and see if it works.

I don’t see how your solution of “fuck it, might as well shop at SHEIN since loads of other things are bollocks anyway” is a good solution.

I sometimes use John Lewis instead of google - they have enough brands that searching for something like “a white crew neck T shirt” gets a decent amount of results but absolutely no shein / temu crap

Even global 'reputable' organisations such as Kelloggs, Unilever and Nestlé have all reportedly been found to have used products and ingredients produced by child workers, often in dangerous conditions.
These organisations produce multiple brands. People need to think again before they believe they are making 'ethical' choices when shopping. There is a lot of work to be done across the globe.

People know this and don't purchase from those brands either.

I bought 8 dresses for work a few weeks ago. Cost £60. 7 of them are excellent. 1 is a bit meh but it was £3 something

Meanwhile it’s all a bit ‘meh’ for the Chinese workers who made them, probably in appalling, unsafe conditions and paid a pittance.

Where did I say "fuck it, might as well shop at Shein"? You are making that assumption just because I mentioned other Global firms who also need to be held to account? (Especially ones whose products are easily accessible in most supermarkets)

Ariela · 13/05/2025 22:53

We call it Sheite here. Not that we've ever ordered from Sheite or Teru-ble.

TandemFeeder · 13/05/2025 22:54

It drives me nuts too. You are definitely not BU.

thumper45 · 13/05/2025 22:56

It’s because shein stocks anything you could ever dream of.
Its completely random in terms of sizing and quality but I’ve had a couple of really flattering, good quality, cheap bits from there so it’s sometimes worth the risk.

I don’t know what your point is otherwise. There’s a lot of shite out there, we all know that. But I’m whinging about SHEIN.

They recommended me "something to go with my recent purchase" - some socks..it was some kind of heavy duty nail gun.

Socks = toes = toenails = nail gun?

Funny, many people still think that the UK abolished slavery as a heroic deed. The slavery 'owners' were actually rewarded/paid off (very handsomely) to 'abolish' slavery and the cost was passed on to the taxpayer. (In fact the British taxpayer only finished paying off this debt in 2015) The actual real victims of slavery received...... nothing.

I love SHEIN. Buy nearly all of my clothes from there now. Ridiculously cheap and great quality for what you pay. I'm a very happy customer.

Before anyone throws hateful comments regarding the ethics. Most major retailers have questionable ethics and use the same suppliers.

So maybe broaden your horizons just a little bit. That other "shite" out there also needs to be addressed. Especially the "shite" where kids are being forced to fund the profits of 'reputable' global corporations

Good luck trying to save the world. Most everyday people cannot afford the prices of most modern good quality clothes retailers. And for what it's worth, most high street shops are also sourcing from very similar factories in china and India and elsewhere.

You can guilt trip people on ethics, but the reality of people's disposable cash Vs ethical dilemmas isn't always as simple as that. It's a privileged position to turn down a massive cost save whether you like to admit it or not.

CookingFatCat · 13/05/2025 23:14

Amazon just sells chinese stuff too you know. It just resells at higher cost. Even ‘naice’ brands. Many made in china.

You are the one making assumptions. I know you think you’re on a crusade here but you’re not the lone enlightened warrior. Away and bile yer heid.

I'd love to know where people think that the rest of their non-shein clothes are produced?

Secondly, I find this is the latest drum to bang to find nice , soft, weak targets to rage against.

Nobody seems to want to cause untold harm on murderers of late, no we all want to analyse them and understand them and make excuses for their abhorrent crimes.

Meanwhile, cash strapped Mrs ordinary with her 2.4 children, buys a summer stress or two of SHEIN and is beaten to a pulp metaphorically for being a selfish Satanist promoting child labour.

They call this 'soft targeting'

SuffolkBargeWoman · 13/05/2025 23:19

No they don't @SquashedMallow .
You're just making things up for attention now.

purpleme12 · 13/05/2025 21:29

I have never bought from them before either

But sometimes I wonder i get tempted and wonder if I should take the risk...

Not really a risk. I used to be very snobby about Shein... until I actually ordered from there and surprised myself how impressed I was.

Have had the odd bit where the sizing's been wild and the material questionable but, generally, it's decent quality and washes up really well. Thought I'd have a washing incident with a bright green beach co-ord I got from there. No colour run at ALL.

I wouldn't shop Shein for best - but they're definitely a 'don't knock it till you've tried it' brand.

No. I'm not. I don't like seeing people guilt tripped over non malicious acts they've commited - like purchasing off a Chinese clothing site, hanging them for the crimes of a much, much bigger and wider problem. It is soft targeting.

Honestly, my post is more about that fact that nearly all the search results are SHEIN. It’s insane. A few years ago they didn’t exist and now they are allowed to buy out all these bloody ads. SHEIN, Temu, Amazon, Etsy, all of it. Everywhere awash with cheap shite.

Forget why they’re reprehensible. Forget about issues with the clothing industry in general. It’s just bloody everywhere.

The internet in general has gone to the bloody dogs anyway. It’s all bollocks.
