Here we go again.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 13/05/2025 01:09

He says what people want to hear.

JandamiHash · 13/05/2025 01:10

People are angry. The Tories fucked us, and Labour are being wet blankets and demonising disabled people. When people are in a political no man’s land they make knee jerk decision on where to turn. It was the same with UKIP (and look what happened there).

Although I’m making assumptions. I’d actually love a Reform voter to come on and explain their reasoning, I’d absolutely listen, but I don’t think any MNer is that brave.

ReplacementBusService · 13/05/2025 01:12

He personally is really skilled at making people think he is on their side, and is one of the rarer politicians who often appears to be saying something he believes in. We need more people in power who say something that feels real and meaningful.

Without him, Reform would just be another minor right wing bunch of nutters who nobody would have heard of. With Farage they have themselves and English Trump, ready to lead us into a bright future where men can be men, preferably if they are white or orange skinned, and women can stay home barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, and all the foreigners can go home unless they are driving an Uber or grafting down at the hospital 🫡

Scarystuffhelp · 13/05/2025 01:19

Tories were awful. Labour spent all their energy criticising them and didn't have many ideas of their own so when they got into power ended up doing the same things they criticised the Tories for - and then tanked the economy (not as bad as Lettuce Liz but still...). Green Party are loons who hate women. Think the Libs have given up at this point.

Reform get the popular vote because people want straight talking and none of the usual political waffle, and are concerned about immigration. It's mainly in protest at the fact the other parties are awful and Reform is shiny and new.

And no I'm not a Reform voter. But I can see why a lot of people are attracted to them.

NeverEndingSnorey · 13/05/2025 01:20

I am going to go out on a limb here and say it’s his dress sense. Ever since Micky Portillo ventured off to make tv shows on a train, the British people have lacked a certain vibe in menswear in politics they just cannot get from anywhere else.

That and he looks a bit like a frog, and we were all brought up to have sympathy for frogs through watching the Muppets. 🐸 For many of us, the Muppet Show was our early understanding of politics, ie how people of different types all had to get along and order had to come through the chaos. It has conditioned us to accept utter muppets for politicians too.

Maddie05 · 13/05/2025 01:33

Are you a reform voter? I'd love some insight 🙂

SchrodingersTwat2 · 13/05/2025 01:34

Very few people do. The turn out was low. Of that number (19% here) only 20% voted for Reform.

I voted Reform. I'm sick of high taxes, far too much money being spent on immigration in one way or another. Money being wasted by translating English into so many languages, in NHS, local councils etc in the form of both translator's and leaflets. Too much money being wasted on Diversity Officers. Fuel having sky high prices due to UK leading net zero policies at expense of economy. Illegal immigrants being housed on 4* hotels whilst UK homeless people living on streets outside of said hotels. Never enough money to fund education properly yet still giving foreign aid. Young single people working hard yet taxes so high there is only a small chance they can buy a home on one income. Not enough spent on defense over many years leaving the UK vulnerable to attack by Putin. Tax on death, so after working hard all of a person's life they can't leave all wealth to their DC if they choose too. They will reinstate WFA for pensioners. I don't like the 2 family cap thrusting DC into poverty, imposed by Tories, kept by Labour and opposed by Farage. Reform listen to what people want. I know I will be accused of being racist but I'm not. I rent out btl properties and don't discriminate provided people are here legally and have a share code, pass affordability test, a housing reference and can speak English.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 13/05/2025 02:18

@caringcarer You want lower taxes but more money spent on defence, education and benefits. How does that work?

Snickersnack1 · 13/05/2025 02:27

Because he says what people want to hear.
He frames people’s problems simplistically and sells them easy solutions. He appeals to the lowest common denominators. The desire to feel superior. To blame others. To have more. To win. It’s just words, he can’t do what he says, he only cares about power. He works from the same playbook as Trump.

Reetpetitenot · 13/05/2025 02:33

Caringcarer, you don't think part of the issue with young people not being able to buy homes is btl landlords like yourself?

We are not poor because of taxes. We are poor because the very wealthiest in society have stripped the country of its assets, and large multinational companies have a monopoly on our markets (and guess what, they feel the same about paying tax as you do). The conservatives certainly did a lot of damage in this regard, but Reform will be the Conservatives on steroids.

If you want lower taxes then I can only assume you have hundreds of thousands of pounds ready in the bank to pay for private healthcare, private education for your kids and a private security firm to keep you, your family and your property safe. Because without tax there would be no public services. The rich will be fine of course. Farage is a multi-millionaire. He doesn’t care. He just wants your vote.

But Trump does what he says he says he is going to do. You say Farage is like Trump and just says what people want to hear.
But Trump says what people want to hear but follows it through.
So if Farage had a mandate and was democratically voted in , he could in theory carry out what he promises.

Solve the Ukraine war in 24 hours, Announce Tarrifs (crashing the stock market) and having to pause or slash them a couple of weeks later.

BIossomtoes · 29/08/2025 22:35

So we have (at least) two Reform voters here, neither of whom can explain which of the party’s policies have persuaded them to put their X in the Reform box. It’s not hugely convincing.

Trump doesn’t do what he says he will at all. He SAYS he’s done things, uses the media to amplify his message and his mindless followers believe every word that comes out of his lying mouth.

Exactly. Sometimes people vote for their MP because they are a good local MP not necessarily because they are from a political party.

Southern25 · 29/08/2025 22:44

The website I googled showed Reform would take 30% of the vote share with a majority of 86 seats based on today.

Ive no idea how accurate that is or what will happen in 2029.
