Inside out clothes in the washing basket

Why? Why can’t my family do this? It’s so simple, You put your clothes in the basket. Please turn them the right side out so I can wash them without having to do this. So annoying.

OP posts:

I wash and dry everything as it’s put in the basket - up to my kids to sort it out when they put it away and then put it on to wear again! I’d like to think the clothes are washed equally inside and out so it doesn’t really matter how they are put into the machine!!!

dementedpixie · 12/05/2025 21:56

You're supposed to wash them inside out especially if there are buttons or zips

PrincessASDaisy · 12/05/2025 21:58

Another day of women falling victim to their own oppression. I wash my clothes inside out, I’m alive.

gannett · 12/05/2025 21:59

Clothes get washed the same inside out as right way round? Why does this matter?

Toottooot · 12/05/2025 21:59

I prefer to wash most of my clothes inside out? 🤷🏻‍♀️

TeenLifeMum · 12/05/2025 22:01

Quite a few clothes need to be inside out. I’d just be grateful if my family managed to get them in the basket. These seems a challenge in my house. I also got told off for making dd2’s clothes smell too clean once. She was angry and desperately trying to find a reason. It was bizarre.

Eldermillennialmum · 12/05/2025 22:01

I know what you mean OP. Some things wash better inside out but I'm guessing you're comparing about your family just throwing things in the laundry basket without a thought. My DH puts things in one leg in and one leg out or jumpers with t shirts still inside them...

Screamingabdabz · 12/05/2025 22:01

Love a thread where some washer woman goes mental over the triviality of inside out clothes instead of the oppressive patriarchal system she’s both victim of, and perpetrating, by poor role modelling to her children.

MereNoelle · 12/05/2025 22:01

I wash clothes inside out. I wash them in whatever state they’re put in the basket!

Redpeach · 12/05/2025 22:02

What now?

ThatNimblePeer · 12/05/2025 22:02

I deliberately turn all my clothes inside out before washing

yeesh · 12/05/2025 22:02

I couldn’t give a fuck tbh. Why are you making more work for yourself

gamerchick · 12/05/2025 22:03

You're supposed to wash them inside out though. It's stops clicks from buttons and zips and damage from the machine.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 12/05/2025 22:03

Why can’t you just wash them inside out?

If it’s half in half out, that’s annoying and you should put the dirty clothes back on their bed until they put it in the right way 🤣

BaronessBomburst · 12/05/2025 22:04

Socks get washed and returned whichever way I get them.
DH usually gets them back inside out as that's how he peels them off after running.
DS usually gives me one inside-out and one right-side-out in each pair. I've no idea how he manages that. Grin

So true!!

fabricstash · 12/05/2025 22:04

I thought jeans don’t fade as quickly inside out

coldlunch · 12/05/2025 22:05

I hear you OP. My kids are all very little so clothes always have pants and socks inside them as well as being inside out.

They're way too young to be folding their own laundry anytime soon (will "help" load it in the machine, hanging it up, sorting it into piles) so when it comes to folding it I've got to turn it all the correct way first. Drives me nuts.

All encouragement to remove underwear and then them the correct way has so far been a waste of time.

Annascaul · 12/05/2025 22:05

It’s actually recommended that you wash inside out to lessen fading.

gannett · 12/05/2025 22:05

I don't think I even notice whether clothes are inside out or not. I shove them in the washing machine without paying any more attention than is necessary.

How is she bring a poor role model to her children?

WhatMe123 · 12/05/2025 22:06

My pet hate op I feel you....

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/05/2025 22:07

I deliberately turn everything inside out (except socks/underwear) before washing.

eosmum · 12/05/2025 22:08

If they go in to the basket inside out that’s how they are returned, if buttons are done up on a shirt that’s how it is laundered. I do washing DH has other jobs he does so it’s fair.

namechangeGOT · 12/05/2025 22:08

Who the fuck has got the time or inclination to be worried about whether their clothes are inside out or not when they‘re in the washing machine?
