Inside out clothes in the washing basket

Why? Why can’t my family do this? It’s so simple, You put your clothes in the basket. Please turn them the right side out so I can wash them without having to do this. So annoying.

OP posts:

Agree with another poster, literally throw it in the washer as is. Unless there's something wrong with your machine both sides will be cleaned.....and if your dryer is anything like ours it occasionally seems to turn one inside out or right way round if previously inside out.
The only thing I do is give a shake to anything scrunched up tightly (occasionally socks).

Clothes get washed the same inside out as right way round? Why does this matter?

Apparently this makes them fade less. I didn’t know this, and my partner insisted everything be turned inside out (without knowing the reason why either!), so Doctor Google to the rescue!

Perfectly happy to go along with this.

mummyhat · 13/05/2025 19:09

I am with you OP. Scrunched up balled or Inside-out socks piss me off, shouldn’t be my job to fold the stinky sweaty articles outside-out so the dirty bit gets cleaned.
I leave them on the floor to be sorted by owner and go in the next wash.

Sickdissapointed · 13/05/2025 19:11

Seriously ! I’m glad if the dirty laundry even gets to the laundry basket.

brunettemic · 13/05/2025 19:11

Wash them inside out then! DH does this with the ironing, if it’s inside out he assumes the owner of item of clothing wants it inside out (he puts his jeans in the wash inside out and irons them like that). Although to be fair, if it really makes no sense like DD’s School skirt he turns it back.

desperatedaysareover · 13/05/2025 19:16

White socks inside out 😡

Threecraws · 13/05/2025 19:21

It's more annoying when it's half one way and half the other or stocks rolled into balls

2chocolateoranges · 13/05/2025 19:22

Bonbon21 · 13/05/2025 18:12

Why are you doing the laundry amd ironing for adults?
Are they paying a premium rent?

I do everyone’s washings in the house together, it’s so much easier for me to load the machine, dh puts it on when he gets home from work and one of us then hangs it up. Much easier doing one washing a day than us all trying to do washings at the one time.

i thought that’s what most families do. Happened in my home growning up as it did in dh’s home.

Cuppachuchu · 13/05/2025 19:25

I'd settle for inside out. Better than bloody paper tissues all over everything.😏

user2848502016 · 13/05/2025 19:28

I would just wash them inside out!

It’s socks scrunched up in balls or knickers stuck inside leggings that gets me!

Knoblauch1664 · 13/05/2025 19:34

My partner or I wash it in the state it was put in the washing basket by ourselves or the children.

If this is your primary concern I think you could either:

a ) think yourself lucky.
B.) consider widening your horizons.

Moii · 13/05/2025 19:35

I always wash inside out, sun then doesn't bleach them on the line and easier to iron if there are pockets.

Gingernan · 13/05/2025 20:08

If mine go in with tissues removed from pockets , that's a success!

OneLilacCrow · 13/05/2025 20:19

Yes but my family often leave tissues in pockets of clothes to be washed. If you don’t go through the clothes checking this before throwing them into the machine, you make far more work trying to remove tiny bits of ‘confetti’ tissue when you pull them out.

WonderingWanda · 13/05/2025 20:22

Some things are better washed inside out, especially of going on the line in sunshine to dry and you don't want the colour bleached.

vickylou78 · 13/05/2025 21:17

Much better to wash inside out to stop fade and bobbling and definitely helps with printed design t shirts to stop the design rubbing off in the wash.

browneyes77 · 13/05/2025 21:18

I have always washed my clothes inside out.

Inside out clothes in the washing basket
Boredlass · 13/05/2025 21:19

My DH washes them whatever way they land in the basket and nothing bad has happened (I don’t do the washing)

HollieHock · 13/05/2025 21:21

I always wash mine outside in rather than inside out.

Oblomov25 · 13/05/2025 22:12

I too had no idea this was even an issue. I empty the washing basket into the washing machine. That's it!

SodYouIllGoOnMyOwn · 13/05/2025 22:15

I stopped washing everybody’s clothes a while ago. Everyone has a dedicated day to do their washing. Believe it or not, they all figured it out. My youngest is 12.

LouiseK93 · 13/05/2025 23:18

Yeah...but if every item of clothing is washed inside out its still time consuming putting every item the right way ready for folding/ ironing whatever

redcord · 13/05/2025 23:23

Ishoulddomore · 12/05/2025 22:54

But I have to turn them before i iron them, or can I iron them inside out?

There's someone on here who couldn't figure out how to get a 2p out of a toilet. Perhaps you should be friends.

EatAllDay · 13/05/2025 23:55

I can’t cope with the inside out / rolled into a manky ball socks. In reality you need to straighten them out before putting in machine. Grim at times. Especially damp football socks

sleepwouldbenice · 14/05/2025 00:02

Kibble29 · 12/05/2025 22:08

What about pants still attached to trousers? I’d return the clothes to their owner to be separated. No chance I’m standing doing it for them.

Yep
if I get clothes still bound to each other I am not unpicking them. They either get thrown back or ignored
and if they are inside out they get washed and returned that way. If an arm or leg is half inside out that also gets dried and returned like that

i dont mind doing the washing and ironing, we all have our jobs in this house, but I am not sorting after you…
