Inside out clothes in the washing basket

Why? Why can’t my family do this? It’s so simple, You put your clothes in the basket. Please turn them the right side out so I can wash them without having to do this. So annoying.

Mine all have strict instructions to please put everything in the basket inside out. Less wear and tear and fading on the right side of the clothes. I line dry everything inside out too.

JustAMum31 · 13/05/2025 05:39

@Ishoulddomore Are you my husband by any chance? 🫠

Just incase you are, I’ll say it again…
JUST LEAVE THE INSIDE OUT CLOTHES IF THEY BOTHER YOU THAT MUCH 😂 I’LL WASH THEM MYSELF 🙃

Zanatdy · 13/05/2025 06:05

Your kids are adults. Give them a washing day and tell them to do their own laundry.

Eldermillennialmum · 13/05/2025 06:09

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 12/05/2025 22:03

Why can’t you just wash them inside out?

If it’s half in half out, that’s annoying and you should put the dirty clothes back on their bed until they put it in the right way 🤣

Depending on my mood I just leave them in the basket
Ditto if there's a belt in his jeans!

BoiledSpuds · 13/05/2025 06:43

If you let everything get to you you’ll lose your mind. I dgaf anymore. If stuff comes out inside out, that’s how it stays. Problem solved.

Missywelliot · 13/05/2025 06:55

Ishoulddomore · 12/05/2025 22:54

But I have to turn them before i iron them, or can I iron them inside out?

Don't iron anything if you have a washing line. Shake and hang out, job done.
I haven't used an iron since I've had kids. Teen dc's used it for their cadet uniform and that's it.

No, my mum did everything for me and my dad. I don’t want that in my house so I’m trying. It’s nothing major, I’m just asking if it’s a normal thing

Yet you are doing your (adult) children’s washing for them?

You do yours and your wife’s if you want to but let the kids do their own

ClaredeBear · 13/05/2025 07:16

Just leave them until they’re sorted properly.

2chocolateoranges · 13/05/2025 07:20

There are enough stresses in life without stressing about the washing, just put the clothes in, wash and hang up to dry.

don’t stress about it.

Mydadsbirthday · 13/05/2025 17:45

I also find this annoying and I do all the laundry in my house for DH and two teens.

I'm not a slave to the patriarchy. My DH does all the shopping and cooking. We are a team.

Mine do this, but I’ve asked them/taught them.
have you asked? What are the consequences if they don’t. I’d leave it in a pile. But both of my daughters will help sort their laundry, so I don’t mind doing the odd few things with them. Then I stack piles of dry folded things for them to take up and put away, which they do.

also quietly staggered you’re doing the laundry for your children aged 21 and 28. I think your opportunity to teach them inside out in basket is probably over unless you just abandon their chores now.

mine are 11 and 13 and are quite capable of putting a wash on and hanging it out. They strip their own beds too 😇😂

Cbareally · 13/05/2025 18:12

I started doing this years ago when my kids were teenagers, however it goes into the washing basket that’s how it comes back, my DS once asked “ is it really too much trouble to put the sleeves on my shirts the right way around?” So I replied “ Evidently so “ good luck

Bonbon21 · 13/05/2025 18:12

Why are you doing the laundry amd ironing for adults?
Are they paying a premium rent?

nomas · 13/05/2025 18:15

They will wash fine inside out. Actually would be better for crotch / armpits etc, not to mention is better to maintain colour of clothes and less bobbling.

Don’t turn them the right way round though, let them do that themselves.

CommonAsMucklowe · 13/05/2025 18:15

I wash almost all everything inside out. Help stops the colour fading and the material getting worn.

Your clothes will last longer if you wash them inside out. That advice from a Chinese friend.

cakewench · 13/05/2025 18:17

I think I know what you mean. My DS often has a rammed together trouser leg or something from the way he peels them off. Then my DH just leaves it that way when he does the laundry, which results in a trouser leg which probably didn't get clean as it was all balled up, and is insanely wrinkled because DH won't pull it out even before he hangs them out 😂 I stay 100% out of it because I'm not here to micromanage.

But fwiw, I pull my trousers inside out on purpose, especially if they're a dark colour which I don't want to fade in the sunlight on the line. Generally speaking though, adult's sweat and the 'dirt' on adults clothes tends to be on the side which touches our skin. I'm not usually getting grass stains etc on my clothes, for example, unlike a child might.

WaltzingWaters · 13/05/2025 18:19

Inside out I don’t mind. I’ll hustle fry and put them away inside out, so DH still has the job of putting it right when he’s ready to wear it.
It’s the socks he leaves in a big scrunch and when he leaves T-shirts inside a jumper that annoy me. Equally, I’ll usually just let them dry that way and put them away like that, the socks may stay wet. I’ve asked him to sort them out before putting them in the laundry basket enough times so that’s what he gets.

Dutchhouse14 · 13/05/2025 18:22

If clothes are inside out I wash them inside out, unless I know they are particularly dirty /stained.
My bugbear is DH putting a jumper in the wash with the t shirt he wore under it still inside it, he's taken it off as one item of clothing and hasn't separated them. But tbh I sometimes wash it like that too!
I think you should stop turning them the right way round.

Dutchhouse14 · 13/05/2025 18:25

Oh the worst is DDs wearing tights and socks then taking them off with the socks inside the tights-argh!!

Duechristmas · 13/05/2025 18:27

It'll still get clean inside out.
One of my best life hacks was realising I could wash and dry knickers inside tights THEN separate them.

bloodredfeaturewall · 13/05/2025 18:32

dirty side out - so for most clothes it's inside out.

however clothes get washed as they are in the basket. would be a basket case if I made myself more work than necessary.

Beautifulweeds · 13/05/2025 18:33

I had no idea this was a thing?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 13/05/2025 18:34

ThatNimblePeer · 12/05/2025 22:02

I deliberately turn all my clothes inside out before washing

Me too.

SauvignonBlancLady · 13/05/2025 18:55

Matilda1981 · 12/05/2025 21:56

I wash and dry everything as it’s put in the basket - up to my kids to sort it out when they put it away and then put it on to wear again! I’d like to think the clothes are washed equally inside and out so it doesn’t really matter how they are put into the machine!!!

Same. And I don’t check their pockets ✊🏻✊🏻
