To think forced starvation is just plain evil!

On the BBC today. The UN has condemned using man made starvation as a war tactic. Surely we can come to a general consensus that whatever you think about the conflict, Israel's actions here are just plain evil?

I've no doubt there's food scarcity.

Edited to say ..forgot to quote pp

The fact that you could write this and clearly think it’s fine for civilians to be abducted from their homes and held prisoner says a lot about you.

Well that’s just a ridiculous comment.

It's not at all true to say that pro Israeli supporters are unable to say that starving Palestinian civilians is evil.

I'm pro Israel but have explicitly stated that I am against the Israel government withholding humanitarian aid into Gaza. I have also seen the other pro Israel people on this thread say similar things.

Some people just get hysterical when any pro Israel sentiment is expressed and start accusing others of holding awful views. It's easy to see how wars start when we are so quick to believe the worst of each other!

It's been explained over and over again that no one on this thread agrees with forced starvation. I'm actually worried about the emotional wellbeing of some of the people contributing to this thread because they are getting so much abuse just for saying the situation in Gaza is not straightforward. I hope everyone's ok - I for one know that you have NOT implied you think it's ok for people to starve.

There’s at least one person on this thread whose. comments are so vile I can barely read them without bile in my throat. They are really quite vocal and have very much suggested that starving a population is justified.

I mean it's the boy who cried wolf isn't it? On the brink of famine... teetering on the brink... imminent danger ... we've heard this for months...

This is beyond appalling. You should be really ashamed of yourself.

So you have no doubt that there is 'food scarcity', enough that the most vulnerable in society like babies and children and the disabled are becoming emaciated but you still think that 'it's the boy who cried wolf'. Right. What would you have to see before you don't think 'it's the boy who cried wolf' and you take the situation seriously, emaciated children and what?

I think we have reached a new low on Mumsnet.

Not like we can get verified pictures of the emaciated bodies that some posters would believe as the IDF keep killing bloody journalists too .

Thankyou for saying it.

I haven’t seen any others actually say it though
Ive been attacked for being apparently nieve in thinking it’s not that difficult to work out what is and isn’t Evil.

@JandamiHash is getting the most flack on this thread. They have stated that "The assumption that everyone who voted YABU must love starving children is very odd and obtuse indeed." They then attempted to explain to another user that "you've answered in direct response to that exact question, but others haven't".

They then stated that they think others believe "because I haven't rushed on with dramatic statements that I am justifying starvation. I'm not."

Pro- Israel people like them (and me) are trying to explain it's wrong to take the 21% (or whatever percentage it currently is) as meaning 21% think starvation is ok. But there's so much anger on the thread that people aren't listening.

where’s all this anger? I only see disbelief that some people think starving other people is perfectly fine and reasonable

Horror post? So ridiculous

I've said there's food scarcity

I haven't once suggested that starving children is a fantastic thing

I'm questioning the narrative that we've been fed for the duration of this current conflict...How long can people survive without food? Not for 18 months that's for sure. Teetering on the brink of famine for 18 months? Really? The crowds at the hostage release certainly didn't look emaciated did they?

ssd · 11/05/2025 19:30

Potsofpetals · 11/05/2025 09:39

Well said. Isreal is doing nothing more than stand its ground. These ‘civilians’ that are now ‘starving’ danced in the streets when Hamas raped and murdered innocent people.

Zero sympathy do I have. It is a lesson to each and every supporter of radical terrorists. You rape, bomb, murder. This is what will happen to you.

Zero sympathy. For the children, babies, medical staff, journalists and innocent civilians bombed, shot and murdered. 52000 plus souls. And how many of them were the terrorists described in the above post?

Zero sympathy. I cant get over that.

But nobody has said there has been no food for 18months. Nobody at all, ever, anywhere. Aid has stopped and started, aid has been stopped for certain areas. Since March 2 there has been no aid at all(and still no one is saying there is no food at all) which is why this discussion is back again. Biden had to force Israel to start providing aid again at one stage by saying no more bombs if you keep starving people so Israel restarted. Do you not remember any of this? Is it just that you are really uninformed not heartless as it appears?

Jandamis comments were to me

I have no problem with understanding where people are coming from and really don’t need anyone making assumptions on what I think.

My point
taking on board others comments and ignoring none
If you vote you make a direct decision to do so ( after all no one has to )
If you don’t vote because 🤔 you think it’s not that simple …good for you.
so You either lurk, comment or move on …. you’re not really sure and think the question really isn’t that simple…..OK

A % may vote one way but be 51/49 in favour of their choice, which is appreciated as not exactly much of a majority decision but a majority all the same.

So the point that is disputed is whether the 21% who voted that it isn’t evil to starve civilians in war
In my view
If you go to the effort of making such a strong decision on such a Controversial question you basically believe it isn’t Evil.

I reported that post by Potsofpetals but unfortunately it hasn't been deleted. I found it shocking.

smallglassbottle · 11/05/2025 19:41

Some people won't be happy until every last Palestinian is reduced to ashes, and they'll still be muttering "but Hamas" as they're sweeping up the remains to make way for a fancy new waterfront resort.

Shame on you. Justify it all you like, but shame on you.

How emancipated should they look Comedy to satisfy you that they have no food.
How many blockades does their need to be
How long will it take before Israeli and twitter lies can be seen for what they are …lies.

Theres no aid, medicine, food, nothing going into Gaza because of the Israeli Government. How long do pro Israeli supporters think this should last

Till the last man standing or just until they are emaciated enough.

Why don't Hamas just release the hostages as that is why Israel are doing this.
I blame Hamas who don't care about the Gazans

It's not why they are doing it.

Netanyahu is on record for saying they will not stop even if hostages are released

Saying it's about hostages makes it more sanitised for the countries that support them because the real reason isn't half as easy for the public to support them.

Martymcfly24 · 11/05/2025 20:01

And I also blame Israel who are starving and killing the Gazans, they don't give a shit about them either

ssd · 11/05/2025 20:05

Wasn't it reported that the hostages families are furious with Netanyahu and his government as they feel they haven't done enough to support the hostages and he is all about saving his own career and continuing the genicide?

DrPrunesqualer · 11/05/2025 20:08

You said the people at the hostage releases weren’t emaciated Comedycook
So clearly looking for it ( even though the last and current blockade was after the releases …so irrelevant )
Youve also stated adults don’t look emaciated….

In fact you were the one who first ( I think ) used the word emaciated on this thread
You did note the only people emaciated were hostages …..we’ll surprise surprise you’d say that.

Of note it’s hardly surprising hostages will look thin, Israel aren’t letting enough food and medical supplies in
There is however no excuse for the Palestinian detainees looking in such a state. No one is stopping food going to the Israeli prisons.

To think forced starvation is just plain evil!
