To think forced starvation is just plain evil!

On the BBC today. The UN has condemned using man made starvation as a war tactic. Surely we can come to a general consensus that whatever you think about the conflict, Israel's actions here are just plain evil?

Hamas has offered the hostages.
Israel doesn’t want them, Israel broke the ceasefire

Keep up

It's not that Israel didn't want their hostages back - of course they did.

What they couldn't agree to was a temporary ceasefire as that would just give Hamas time to rearm and start attacking Israeli citizens again, like they did on October 7th.

Hamas have to put down their arms and agree to a new leadership in Gaza for any chance of peace in that region. If they offered to do that - and release the hostages - the war would be over.

They just don't seem to understand that they have already effectively lost and what the losing side does in a war is surrender.

The Israeli government wants them to leave Gaza. That's why they don't want them to receive any help Israel is at war with Gaza. Donald Trump has some ideas for the country to turn it into Trumps paradise.

And yet this whole thread has pro Israeli supporters unable to say that starving Palestinians in Gaza is evil.
Apparently it’s not as simple as that.
Apparently there are reasons which are more important than the very simple fact that it is Evil to starve civilians.

Who ever they are, there is never a good enough reason or justification to starve civilians.

and No
No one on this thread or any CEM thread has ever said or suggested that starving Jewish people is acceptable…….making out the Jewish people are the victims of the current starvation in Gaza is deflecting from the true horrors.

It's not at all true to say that pro Israeli supporters are unable to say that starving Palestinian civilians is evil.

I'm pro Israel but have explicitly stated that I am against the Israel government withholding humanitarian aid into Gaza. I have also seen the other pro Israel people on this thread say similar things.

Some people just get hysterical when any pro Israel sentiment is expressed and start accusing others of holding awful views. It's easy to see how wars start when we are so quick to believe the worst of each other!

It's been explained over and over again that no one on this thread agrees with forced starvation. I'm actually worried about the emotional wellbeing of some of the people contributing to this thread because they are getting so much abuse just for saying the situation in Gaza is not straightforward. I hope everyone's ok - I for one know that you have NOT implied you think it's ok for people to starve.

HonI stay I don’t know whether to pity or feel embarrassed for the people who swallow the blatant lies from terrorists. Like how thick can you be? Hamas given the chance would shit MN down in a minute and have gay people killed and women oppressed. They aren’t people’s friends and they aren’t the innocent hapless victims by nasty old Israel.

Embarrassed, actually. I feel embarrassed and almost quite alarmed at the general stupidity

We must be reading different threads, I don't recall any post supporting Hamas.

I've seen images of emaciated children....none of adults.... except the hostages

If you look up famine in Gaza, you'll find articles and articles virtually every month since this conflict started saying that they're on the brink of famine, on the brink of no water, on the brink of no power....

Edited

How long would it take you vs a newborn baby to start to look emaciated? This is the problem, Israel aren't targeting Hamas with this they are targeting children because as you say all you have seen is images of emaciated children. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are also especially vulnerable. This is what aid agencies have been saying for a long time, Israels actions are disproportionately targeting the most vulnerable in society.

Well in so far as during times of food scarcity, the very young are the most vulnerable. But this conflict has been going on for 18 months.... we've been told since the start that they are on the brink of famine...

DrPrunesqualer · 11/05/2025 18:32

@SpaceOfAides
After the first ceasefire when Palestinians were released, most of whom were children, the IDF then re arrested many in the West Bank and actually arrested more during the ceasefire than Israel let out of prison as part of the agreement.

So for all this Israel are letting more out than the number of hostages that are let go nonsense take a look at the number of Palestinians being detained both during and not during a ceasefire.

So actually
No
Israel haven’t let many detainees go at all, not when we consider constant re arrests.

Heres some figures and facts

To think forced starvation is just plain evil!

Incorrect
Israel did not agree to stage 2 or 3 of the ceasefire.
In doing so they would be allowing Palestinians to stay in Gaza and for the IDF to retreat.
As they themselves said, this is not the aim of their war on Palestine

Thankyou for saying it.

I haven’t seen any others actually say it though
Ive been attacked for being apparently nieve in thinking it’s not that difficult to work out what is and isn’t Evil.

Hiddenmnetter · 11/05/2025 18:41

surely the question ought to be why is Hamas starving the Gazans? Israeli blocking of aid trucks is, in effect, neither here nor there. If they send aid trucks in they don’t get to the Gazans anyway. So stopping the supply of aid which is being highjacked by Hamas seems a sensible tactic to cut off the logistical supply for the opposition forces. And before you “ask for sources” even Mahmoud Abbas has admitted that Hamas gangs are doing this (see wafa website).

Bit hard to blame Israel if Hamas will hijack trucks and steal from aid agencies before letting all the civilians eat.

It is correct that Israel did not agree to the ceasefire because Hamas were not offering a permanent ceasefire.

And yes, it would seem that Netanyahu has changed his goals so getting the hostages back is no longer his first priority.

Are you not aware that Israel has not allowed aid in since March 2? Of course things have gotten worse since then, Israel have stopped and restricted aid before now but really how do you think people will survive with no aid, farmland all destroyed, fishermen being shot? Genuinely how do you think people will stay alive and healthy? You seem to be waving away what is happening right now so honestly how do you think people will eat enough to prevent malnutrition right now? I would love a straight forward answer from you.

He hasn’t changed his goals

Im assuming you are aware of his speech ( and redrawn maps ) at the UN meeting Sept 2023
He clearly stated his goals then
Nothing has changed

It’s a bit of a reach to try and blame the famine on Hamas. Israel has taken most of the farm land turning the land into Kill Zones and then blocked food from getting into Gaza. There is no food for Hamas to steal anymore - Israel is deliberately starving people, including women and children. I don’t understand how people can see the pictures of starving people, kids losing their hair, their nails, their eyesight because of starvation. As a mother I can not imagine having to watch your child slowly starve to death and not be able to do anything to help them. It is unimaginably barbaric and sociopathic. How can that be anyone’s fault other than the IDF’s who made them reliant on aid by taking their farm lands and then blocked food from coming in.

You aren't answering my question. You say yourself you have seen emaciated children, is that the boy who cried wolf? I don't understand how on one hand you are saying you've seen emaciated children but on the other hand you don't believe there is any food scarcity? I thought the one on an earlier page was bad but I’m just horrified at this. I’m also sad to think some think like this with such a complete lack of any sort of care. Devoid of empathy

I'm not saying everyone is eating well and is well nourished. I'm saying if we believed everything we've been told about the food situation, there would barely be a single person left.
