To think forced starvation is just plain evil!

On the BBC today. The UN has condemned using man made starvation as a war tactic. Surely we can come to a general consensus that whatever you think about the conflict, Israel's actions here are just plain evil?

It’s a terrorist organisation as you know full well. That is not an army. Armies are MEANT to abide by the rules of war and within international law.

We are getting somewhere - so it’s ok for Hamas to commit war crimes because they’re not a recognised Army? Is that what you’re saying by your self confessed higher expectations of the IDF?

Joyunlimited · 11/05/2025 12:24

Thegreyhound · 11/05/2025 12:20

Are you implying in this post that I am blaming ‘Jews’ for October 7th and therefore that I am an antisemite? Because that’s what it looks like and that is libel. You’d better ask to get it taken down.

I can’t see any good reason why.

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 12:25

Joyunlimited · 11/05/2025 12:24

Because they want us to STFU and agree with them as they justify terrorism

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 11:31

This is what makes it such a difficult subject to engage in. People making shocking little sound bites in place of actual debate

Agree, especially when people come out with historically inaccurate claims like “Israel is a white/ European colonialist project” or deny what happened on October 7th (seen on other threads).

The denial of October 7th is so intrinsically linked to deep and ancient antisemitic tropes that Jews lie and exaggerate about the hate aimed at them. If people are going to be Pro Palestine then fine but they should do a civic duty of researching the very specific and unique ways which antisemitism is played out, why it is SO dangerous to uphold this and how this applies to the conflict.

I don’t care what Hamas or anyone else has done

You don’t care about whatthe violent raping terrorists have done? You don’t think it’s at all relevant to the situation?

There is footage online of Israeli soldiers violently anally raping prisoners. The prisoner has blood all over their trousers afterwards.

It’s all abhorrent. Each side has committed horrific crimes. Both have raped, bother have murdered, both have killed children.

Elizacat · 11/05/2025 12:32

@JandamiHash Who is asking for Israel to be disarmed? They’re just asking that they stop committing war crimes.

You keep repeating nonsensical stuff that is not part of any debate and never has been - no one is saying Israel can’t defend itself and no one is saying they should be disarmed.

DrPrunesqualer · 11/05/2025 12:35

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 12:08

Then the responses would be “We need more than that OP”.

The assumption that everyone who’ve voted YABU must love starving children is very odd and obtuse indeed

I think in itself it’s Evil

It was mentioned earlier on in the thread.

What nonsense am I posting?

Shrewsbury247 · 11/05/2025 12:36

Look how far a few posters have derailed the thread from the initial AIBU … sickening isn’t it.
Forced starvation of any human being regardless of colour or creed is evil…. There can never, under any circumstance, be justification for it. That’s it, no more words needed.

But what you need to understand is that you’ve answered in direct response to that exact question, but other people haven’t.

Threads evolve - otherwise it’s just hundreds of responses of “Yea that’s terrible”

In my view what’s more shocking is that people who point out there’s more nuances than “Good vs Evil” are met with outrage and accusations

Starving civilians does not come within the bounds of ‘The rules of War’

So What then are the IDF……and the Israeli Govn……not an army by your very own definition

I agree.
The question is simple
This thread is full of whatabouts and excuses for what is basically a War Crime

No it wasn’t, someone said that whilst Israel is committing indisputable war crimes countries with a conscience should stop sending them arms until they stop.

No one said they can’t defend themselves or that they should be forcibly disarmed.

You completely avoid any question to you regarding whether it’s ok to commit these despicable crimes against humanity every day and instead zone in on saying, well Israel should be able to defend themselves blah blah blah - nonsensical.

Hope that clarifies my position for you. Maybe you can return the favour and answer if it’s EVER ok for snipers to pick off and shoot kids in the head?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 11/05/2025 12:47

I agree with this.
I can't understand how people accept that for one side but not the other.

JaneJeffer · 11/05/2025 12:47

It is beyond my comprehension how anyone can look at what is being done and try to justify it for any reason.

Would that be so bad? A thread full of people holding space for and condemning the starvation of babies and children like little Siwar. I don't see what's wrong with that but maybe you can explain?

But yet you have never said ‘yea that’s terrible’, you’ve justified and pivoted the focus with every post.
But it’s ok, the world finally sees what the Palestinians have had to put up with for decades.
Even Trump is circumventing Israel to do Middle East politics 🤣
The genie is well and truly out of the bottle at this point.
Good luck to you here with your online endeavour and enjoy your Sunday🥴

Lunagold · 11/05/2025 12:55

Hamas being wrong doesn't make what Israel are doing right. If anything it will make the people of hamas hate the Jews even more and side with hamas as the lesser of two evils in these awful circumstances.

thepariscrimefiles · 11/05/2025 12:57

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 12:05

Israel is Jewish homeland, stolen from them - or have we forgotten that?

The defence is on the fact that neighbouring countries want Jews obliterated. HTH.

Ill ask you - what do you think would happen if Israel laid down its arms?

Do you think that Gaza and the West Bank belong to Israel? If so, where do you expect the Palestinians currently in Gaza and the West Bank to live?

Elizacat · 11/05/2025 13:04

JandamiHash · 11/05/2025 11:43

That wasn’t what I asked but it’s interesting that you dodged the questions.

War crimes are always been committed in conflict and always will be - and have been on both sides in the Israel Gaza conflict. Our own military certainly committed horrific crimes in living memory. Why people expect only the IDF to behave perfectly is beyond me and little to do with the fact Israel still needs to defend itself.

Yes but the difference is that these historical war crimes are roundly condemned by everyone. It is apparently quite acceptable for people to support what the IDF are doing, quite the opposite to your assertion that the IDF are being held to a higher standard than other armed forces.
More nonsense!

Tinyrabbit · 11/05/2025 13:04

Isn't it interesting that you almost never see photos of starving adults from Hamas propagandists? It's an interesting "forced starvation" where many of the adults are normal weight or even obese, when caught in frame with an ill child?
Let's see some group photos please!
Or you can have a look at this video https://x.com/i/status/1918295084153409622 advertising the Abu Jihad Saqallah cake shop in Gaza - look at all the "starving" people. This is date stamped 2/May/2025.

Of course it's not OK for Hamas to commit war crimes. It's not OK for anyone to commit war crimes. However, I expect to hold the army of a 1st world democratic nation to higher standards than I hold a terrorist organisation.

Hamas's Charter used to call for the eradication/massacre of all Jews. They are genocidal and utterly evil. This doesn't give the Israeli Government carte blanche to stop abiding by the Geneva Convention and international law.

Tinyrabbit · 11/05/2025 13:12

Here's Abu selling cans of beef in the market in Gaza, timestamped a few days ago. He also has another video showing the type of powdered milk he prefers for making cheese - he has a choice of three different brands.

Now, if you've got this far and you're wondering where these videos come from - they're being posted onto social media by Gazans themselves who think that nobody notices and that no one else in the world can speak Arabic.
Big shout out to Imshin on Twitter (@Imshin), who does both.
There is no famine in Gaza.
