To be getting second hand embarrassment because my DH is wearing sandals!

For the first time since I’ve known him, my 43 year old DH has bought himself some sandals. I don’t know why but they make me cringe. I think sandals on men look so naff and ‘old man’.

I’ve put a photo of the pair he has bought on this post.

AIBU or do they look really naff and embarrassing?!

I feel sorry for you. I can't imagine living with a man who tells me I'm not allowed to wear the clothes I want to.

And "home educated" ?? Horrible comment

Edited

Please don’t lmao, it was just funny. He wasn’t being seriously mean, I could’ve said ‘fuck off I’m going for that look’ but I also know he has much better taste than me because he cares about fashion. He is the least controlling man there is and hypes me up always.

Read my further posts about the home educated comment, he was right and it wasn’t that deep.

Chuff me, can you imagine if a man wrote this about something boring that his middle aged wife was wearing. It’s absolutely boiling OP, I doubt he will be wearing them often.

'Chuff me' 😂😂😂😂😂 what in gods green earth is chuff me.

anyway OP, I'm another that men wearing sandals like the above give me the raving ick. They are AWFUL shoes. Paired with some cargo shorts and pale skinny legs and feet that point outwards too much when they stand and you've got the full ick set for ya! Bonus points if they're wearing a backpack and even more bonus points if the backpack is in their front. Heinous.

YANBU at all OP. They are really Fanny drying.

Itiswhysofew · 11/05/2025 01:22

I cant bear them eitherGrin But why should he suffer from having hot feet.

You'll have to grin & bear it like I have to.

Wait til they get stinky 🤮

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 11/05/2025 01:27

The expression "gives me the ick" is more off putting than those sandals.

I don't like them much, but honestly they're less ugly than most trainers. I wouldn't be embarrassed being out with some- one wearing them. I would be embarrassed being out in public with someone going on about "gives me the ick"

yeesh · 11/05/2025 01:29

Those are 🤮

Gettingbysomehow · 11/05/2025 01:33

I expect he just wants to have cool feet in summer, he is entitled to be comfortable snd I've seen much worse. I think the problem is men generally don't have attractive feet.
Flip flops would look better than these though.

Charliecatpaws · 11/05/2025 01:41

As long as he’s not wearing sock with them it’s acceptable.

PersonalBest · 11/05/2025 01:53

Baffled. Men should have hot sweaty feet in order to be young and cool?

QuaintShaker · 11/05/2025 02:05

Men's sandals have really come back into fashion as of last year. That particular pair probably skew more functional than stylish, but I think you're just a bit out of touch, OP.

I agree.

Mangina · 11/05/2025 02:23

Do most people’s feet smell/sweat? Mine never do and never have. Instead, my forehead leaks sweat which is way more embarrassing.

wandawaves · 11/05/2025 02:26

Ohhh yuck, no, I massively get the ick when men wear sandals like these.

You are most definitely not being unreasonable OP.

Boreded · 11/05/2025 03:48

If he were my husband he would definitely lose them

BigDahliaFan · 11/05/2025 04:33

so men can’t wear sandals? Who knew?
what are they supposed to wear?

BreakfastatTiffannys · 11/05/2025 05:06

I feel you 1000%. However, as some ppl have said, he has the right to wear something comfortable that allows his feet to get some fresh air. Since he's taken to sandals now, maybe you could gift him a pair that would look better on him without actually saying you hate his current ones? Or some pairs hehe. It could as well backfire, because he might not like them, which would bring you back to square one. Or maybe you could casually show him some different styles online, show him the ones you like and try to gauge how open he'd be to wear them. I'd be getting second hand embarrassment myself if I were in your shoes (no pun intended lol), but I think bringing it up with him would put you at the risk of hurting his feelings, which tends to happen when it comes to people's appearances/ preferences. Better try a covert approach, I guess.

Communitywebbing · 11/05/2025 05:23

Not particularly attractive but functional and comfortable so who cares?

Icanttakethisanymore · 11/05/2025 06:12

LTB, immediately.

Same here. I also can’t imagine a plastic shoe with bare feet would help the situation if you do have hot feet. Lightweight shoes and socks would seem better than that.

MrsFunnyFanny · 11/05/2025 07:30

Agree with you Op. They’re hideous. Thankfully my husband isn’t a sandals wearer, but my kids would have his life if he ever tried😂

Ddakji · 11/05/2025 07:37

Gyozas · 11/05/2025 00:20

It would be better if he did, the socks would absorb the sweat and ease the sour stink.

Me and DH both wear Keens, they don’t get sweaty or smelly.

What charming children you’re raising. I hope none of you wear sandals in the summer.

Bert2025 · 11/05/2025 07:44

I prefer Birkenstock type sandals on men on well-maintained feet! Walking sandals are ok if actually going on a long walk!

I’m glad it’s not just me, I hate that phrase!

ElixirOfLife · 11/05/2025 08:28

YANBU. I have a black bin bag where DH’s bad clothes choices disappear, to see if they are missed. If they’re not, then it’s off to the charity shop. Those would most definitely be in it.

This takes controlling on a whole new level.
