For the first time since I’ve known him, my 43 year old DH has bought himself some sandals. I don’t know why but they make me cringe. I think sandals on men look so naff and ‘old man’.

I’ve put a photo of the pair he has bought on this post.

AIBU or do they look really naff and embarrassing?!

My DH and I have similar to these and almost matching! You'd hate us Grin

People who don’t want filthy feet and who prefer not to have to remove debris from their footwear every twenty steps?
I find socks wick sweat away from the feet, there’s nowhere for it to go in sandals

That sounds like a ‘you’ problem. I wear sandals and don’t experience your issues.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/05/2025 13:37

I’m not sure where you’re walking but I wear sandals and don’t have filthy feet or have to constantly remove ‘debris’! I don’t have blisters either

Just normal walking around, streets, paths etc. Shoes get dirty and dusty and feet are no different. By debris I mean stones, bits of twig, dried leaves, occasional bits of litter. MIL managed to stand in dog poo which went in her sandal.
You’re lucky with the blisters, I have scars from my attempts to wear sandals.

Good for you 🤷‍♀️ PILs walking group has banned them as they were causing so many issues.

Comtesse · 11/05/2025 14:06

YABU and a bit mean. It’s just a pair of sandals. If it was macho even for the roman centurions, it’s fine for blokes to wear sandals.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 11/05/2025 14:11

They're not sandals but sandals are absolutely fine on men.

Again, that’s an issue of not wearing appropriate shoes for the environment. If they’re hiking in fields etc then they need hiking shoes.

StMarie4me · 11/05/2025 14:45

Good grief.

It’s footwear. If a woman in here said her OH was policing what she wears there’d be uproar

Such double standards.

I actually did say that, well kind of, and theres a lot of people agreeing and not much in the way of arguments.

DH cares a lot more about fashion than I do, he is allowed an opinion on how I look and vice versa. Not the final say but an opinion that I value.

The way I put it was if you we’re a professional woman, put effort into your appearance and tried to always look your best in a nice outfit, hair done etc would you go out with an unwashed man in a stained vest, shorts and sliders? I doubt it, to some extent couples represent each other.

ErinAoife · 11/05/2025 15:17

Sandals are ok on men, my only no no it is when they wear it with socks, looks so stupid

So do we. 🤣🤣

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 11/05/2025 15:19

They are awful but I really do defend his right to wear whatever he finds comfy. His feet, not yours. It’s probably a refreshing way to live, to not care about what others think of your fashion.

Funkytuna · 11/05/2025 15:25

yanbu. I wouldn’t be seen dead with someone wearing those, unless they were over the age of 70. And if it was my husband I think it would kill any attraction towards them for a long time 🤣

mrspk · 11/05/2025 15:30

Ewww! My dad wears them, I would be horrified if my husband wore something like that. YANBU.

A version of them is on this recent listicle of the most fashionable men's sandals.

Perhaps he's actually very fashion-forward...

There’s two different things there. DH wears shorts and sliders, I have no problem with it at all. Being unwashed and wearing stained clothing would be a no even if the clothing was designer. Providing he and his clothes are clean, which they are, he can wear what he likes and vice versa.

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 11/05/2025 15:52

I think theres nothing worse than men who wear trainers rain and shine and refuse to let their feet see the sun.

YABU.

FedupofArsenalgame · 11/05/2025 15:57

They are walking sandals My OH used them in South America. De ent company as well as the first ones had an issue and he emailed and they sent free replacements

Sounds like a teenage attitude tbh.

Mins you I dislike all feet so wouldn't be looking closely at other people's lol

But that's not a valid comparison. It's very odd to assume that the OP's husband will be unwashed in a stained vest.

Buildingthefuture · 11/05/2025 17:57

In general, I couldn’t give a toss what my DH wears, he is a grown man. But, he will often ask my opinion and my opinion of those would be…..a very strong “yuck”.

Divorce him with immediate effect - utterly cringeworthy and soooooo embarrassing for you!

TaterTots68 · 11/05/2025 18:18

Sorry everyone but I'm with you on this OP. Sandals on a man give me the ick. I do have a bit of a thing about feet though

Theyreeatingthedogs · 11/05/2025 18:22

mrssunshinexxx · 10/05/2025 20:07

Yeah they aren’t great could you get him some Birkenstocks instead I always think they look good with a nice pair or denim shorts or chinos?

You criticize the sandals and advocate DENIM shorts!!!! Really????

Are you serious? They look ok. You sound a bit loopy, though..
