Do you have 30 fruit & veg in your fridge/ freezer/ cupboard right now?

I read "do you eat 30 different fruit / veg in a week", and I started out curious if we even HAD 30 to pick from. We don't all eat all items, and certainly not all within a week; of the 36+ core items it's unlikely any individual one of us would go over 20 on a given week. How many do you have and actually use?

This is what we have; occasional other bits like figs I don't buy enough to count, I think this is the main set:
13? Fridge: olives, cherry tomatoes, potatoes, iceberg lettuce, artichokes, romaine lettuce, rocket, baby courgette, mixed peppers, fresh chillies, ginger, garlic, baby leek, red onion, spring onion, coleslaw, kimchi, some M&S mixed salad packs (assume we won't count garlic and random pack mixes)
3 Fruit: apples, clementines, raisins
3 Freezer fruit (only for pancakes): blueberries, raspberries, strawberries
3 Freezer veg: cauliflower rice, sprouts, mushrooms garlic, ginger, chillies, mixed greens thing, packs of chopped leek/ courgette / onion / aubergine (from when we were going away)
5 Fruit juices: apple, raspberry, pineapple, rhubarb, grapefruit.
10? Cupboard (used a lot but removing lots of duplicates): peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, almonds, cashews, seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, chia, sesame, black sesame, mixed), beans (baked, black, pinto, butter, kidney), water chestnut, bamboo, grated coconut, tinned tomato, tomato paste, mixed grains, artichokes
0 Cupboard (so rarely used): pistachio butter, pearl barley, hearts of palm, poppy seeds, lentils of various types (not counted as not eaten often), walnuts.

Not the point of the thread but where did you get your pistachio butter? I brought some back from holidays but the only place I have seen it here is ocado.

Costco. So much cheaper than anywhere else.

Thanks! I'm not sure my preferred spice fajita counts, it's mostly salt. Then it's just chillies, garlic, pepper, maybe oregano and basil; I don't think the quantities are enough to count apart from DH's chillies.
Any ideas for bits for me to add Into the rotation? We like a lot of stir-fry, so we put a huge range in that. We don't tend to have cucumber, carrot, sweet potato, peas and other bits that others have a lot of; mostly because DH and DS aren't that keen. I might have missed corn off my list though, we do have lots of corn but I think I missed it in both the freezer and cupboard.

The list includes things like wheat, rye, oats, cocoa, dried fruit, seeds, nuts, herbs, spices etc. etc. - it is 30 plants, not 30 fresh fruit and veg.

maddiemookins16mum · 10/05/2025 23:32

Kitchen counter - bowl with bananas, apples and oranges
Fridge - cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce x 3 types, radishes, spring onions, broccoli, carrots, cauli, spinach, peppers.

WinterFoxes · 11/05/2025 00:37

We have apples, pears, oranges, bananas, frozen blueberries, raspberries, mango and cherries.
Onions, shallots, carrots, courgettes, red and yellow peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, rocket, little gem, and in the freezer peas, broad beans, edamame, spinach, carrots.
In store cupboard kidney beans, borlotti beans, cannellini beans, lentils, chickpeas.
Also walnuts, almonds, sesame seeds, pecans, poppy seeds, quinoa, brown and red rice, peanut butter.
And too many herbs and spices to list.

DogsOnFilm · 11/05/2025 00:40

HundredPercentUnsure · 10/05/2025 23:01

@DogsOnFilm @FigsOfFury guest fruit/veg works great!

I stick it in the middle of the dinner table for a few days to pique interest and to handle it/familiarise with it first.

We like to have guesses about what it will look like/what colour it will be inside and what it might taste like. Then we cut it open/ prep it at the table together and try it. And next time it just exists on our plate like any other veg/fruit.

Asparagus was actually the choice of my 4yo inspired by Bluey and a game called asparagus wands 😂

That’s so lovely. 😊

DiscoBeat · 11/05/2025 00:51

Fridge:
Celery, cucumber, avocado, pepper, lettuce, strawberries, blueberries, radishes, carrots, parsnips, red cabbage, cauliflower, courgette, spinach (did have broccoli and corn on the cob until earlier!)
Fresh herbs: basil, parsley, coriander, mint
Freezer:
Sweetcorn, edamame, peas, raspberries, damsons, blackberries
Ambient:
Potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, tomatoes, bananas, apples, oranges
So yes if you count the herbs

DiscoBeat · 11/05/2025 00:53

Oh tinned also: black beans, red kidney beans, chickpeas, butter beans, green lentils

DiscoBeat · 11/05/2025 00:55

And a lot of different nuts and seeds if they count.

ToffeePennie · 11/05/2025 01:04

I have frozen sweetcorn, tinned peas, tinned carrots, mushy peas, a gross mouldering pineapple that belongs to my oldest DS (I’m not allowed to bin it, it must be carefully disposed of with a Viking funeral apparently) apples, bananas, an orange, a few boxes of raisins, a couple of mini packs of raisins and apricots, a bag of slightly old lettice, some carrot batons, two cucumbers a tub of mandarins and a couple of tubs of pre packed pineapple chunks in juice and jelly.
I usually have as a rule of thumb some mushrooms fresh, but we eat them all the time, so they went this morning after they were purchased.
I may have some veg packs in the freezer, but if I do, I don’t know about them.
Essentially we don’t get our 30+ plants and herbs and veg and fruit, but I have two autistic people in the house and I have to cope with what they will stand too.

Meadowfinch · 11/05/2025 01:06

Yes. Post-cancer I've been eating 30+ for a while now. Currently in the kitchen are:
Kiwis
Apples
Plums
Satsumas
Rhubarb (simmered with a teaspoon of sugar and a piece of ginger or orange peel)
Carrots
Onions
Potatoes
Leeks
Broccoli
Lettuce
Cucumber
Tomato
Beetroot
Radishes
Spring onions
Peas
Sweetcorn
Green lentils
Spinach
Florence fennel
Broad beans
Cannellini beans
Kidney beans
Chick peas
Garlic
Mushrooms
Olives
Sultanas
Cabbage
Assorted nuts
Porridge oats
Rice

Once you get into the habit, it's not hard.

We get through fresh salads, fruit & root veg every week. Frozen veg don't go off. Beans are tinned. Lentils, chick peas, rice and oats are dried so store cupboard staples

GellerYeller · 11/05/2025 01:10

Fridge: Tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, carrots, onions, cabbage, salad leaves, romaine lettuce, cucumber, blueberries, grapes, mango. Salsa. Lime, orange, apple and pineapple juices. Does tomato purée count?! We’ve three tubes!
Freezer: Parsnip, sweetcorn, peas, broccoli florets, chopped garlic, mixed berries, raspberries and rhubarb.
Cupboard: baked beans, mixed beans, chickpeas, tinned sweetcorn and tomatoes. Plus dried mixed fruit, apricots, cranberries, dates, walnuts, pistachios, mixed seeds, coconut flakes and cashews. We have a drawer full of herbs and spices.
Fruit bowl: banana, orange, plums, tangerines, nectarines, apples and a grapefruit.

soupyspoon · 10/05/2025 22:40

How did a tin of chickpeas go out of date 5 years ago? We're they tinned in 1920 or something?

No idea. I'm sure they're fine though, it's just a use by date, tin contents can last decades in practice.

OP posts:
whynotmereally · 11/05/2025 06:32

We usually have-
7 fruit
10 veg
5 nuts
3 seeds
About 30 herbs but they are dry so not sure if included
10ish tined/packet
i probably have (including herbs) around 25 a day as I have porridge with nuts/sseds/berry’s and often yoghurt and fruit. I always stick loads of veg in whatever we cook plus seasoning.

bluevelvetbox · 11/05/2025 07:10

Interesting thread. I love seeing what people have. I have:

6 apples
4 kiwi
4 bananas
1 x box of grapes

1 x tinned grapefruit
1 x tinned prunes
4 x Dole fruit pots

1 x frozen blackberries
1 x frozen 4 berry medley
1 x frozen cherries

1 x frozen sprouts
2 x frozen mixed veg
1 x frozen Asian stir fry mix

3 x cans sweetcorn
1 x tinned tomatoes

I'm single and live alone so will top up fruit in the week if it runs out but I have a fruit bowl at in the office and normally bring a couple of bits home from there.
