Baby at fertility show?

I'm not sure if I'm just in the haze of ivf treatments

Today I went to a fertility/ family building event. It was some stands but mostly talks by a fertility clinic on treatment options for example an hour talk of iui medications and procedures etc and an hour on implications of ivf in a packed conference room (100+ people)

I've been sent a link to give some feedback.

I was surprised that a couple bought their baby along in a pram

The baby was fairly vocal (crying and chatting) which didn't feel right for any kind of indepth talk in that way so I would have taken it outside at that point. In breaks in the event, it was being walked along in the aisles, they were loudly playing with it

I think it's probably fair to feedback that I struggled to hear at points because of background noise, but is it also fair to say that it didn't feel like the right audience for a baby?

You give that feedback, they could have mentioned on sign up that children weren't allowed. Highly inappropriate to take a baby to that kind of event.

Tone deaf parents but the clinic could have prevented it.

Oh god, this person has already had two accounts shut down and back again like the unwanted guest at a party 😆 they’re just username changing and trolling x

I see too many insensitive posts, don't take notice, it's likely that they were very lucky and didn't struggle to conceive.

People don't get that it's not about the baby being noisy but about sensitivity, not the right place to bring a baby. Many people here with no empathy at all. Don't care what people think, just give your feedback.

I've gone through secondary infertility and IVF.

I didn't take my son to the clinic, or early pregnancy unit, because I'm not a dick. It's well known in infertility circles you keep babies away from these spaces. This will be why there was just the one baby in a room with a likely sizeable proportion of women with secondary infertility.

Most women will be processing a recent realisation that they are not going to get pregnant naturally, they don't need to hear a giggling baby while they are hearing about IVF FFS.

For maternity scans you almost always can't bring a child in with you, you need to sort childcare. It's the same here, except they didn't really need to go at all. There are other ways to find out the information.

The secret world of “secondary” infertility … the women who hide their “primary” babies from other IVF patients … even those parents who also have primary babies.

Wonder if those IVF patients who already have babies tut tut at those who bring babies do they won’t be outted …

The hypocrisy!

More cuntery….If you are struggling with infertility, it’s not entitled to expect a conference about infertility to be a safe space where babies will not be present.

What on earth are some of these recent posts? Really gross. I hope you’re pleased with yourselves. OP, take no notice of the insanely harsh ones. There’s clearly something else going on for them.

Don’t understand why this woman is described as an “infertile womb raider” even though

  • Parker, who had two children but had undergone a hysterectomy, had been faking a pregnancy - including photo shoots with a false bump and a gender reveal - while hunting for a victim

Just cheap oversentionalised journalism. That woman clearly had a lot more wrong with her than infertility.

slowlyfallingtobits · 11/05/2025 14:16

Who's to say that they didn't have fertility treatment to have the baby and were now looking at options available for another go ?

Still insensitive to bring the baby.

I've got no idea what's going on with the multiple different troll posts.

Who knew this was so interesting?!

I think in some ways it's a shame to delete them. Then when people ask why people like me are so touchy, we could point them to people implying I'm going to steal babies from others, calling me barren, dangerous or tragic

Even that if I can't cope with a crying baby in a lecture then I shouldn't have a baby.

Again for the people who are assuming/replying to a completely different scenario to what this is

i recognise secondary infertility is a thing. This specifically is talking about a series of lectures on ivf, not to babies generally existing in public or even (as previous op suggested) becoming lonely because I'd make all my friends and family paranoid.
Its also not about treatments, appointments or other time limited stuff that obviously might end up needing to happen.

I should probably also clarify the baby in the corner thing that clearly upset someone. I meant that I was probably not going to be bothered by the sight of a pram, its probably more babbling being a sound track. I don't believe that babies should live their lives seen and not heard or any other form of marginalisation.

And to the posters saying of course a baby makes noise. I do know that. I don't blame the small child who would have been wheeled there and didn't choose to be deliberately loud or where they were taken that day

Again I don't hate babies

I’ve been where you are, so I do understand the thoughts and feelings that come with it and so definitely empathise. I think most posters are well-meaning in playing devil’s advocate, but there’s always somebody who takes it far too far. Honestly it says more about them and their own unhappiness than anything else.

All too often on here people argue just because they can & not because they actually mean what they are saying. Some posters love to seize on one tiny aspect of a post and try to find a clever way to spin it to make the OP seem self centred or not broad minded enough

I sometimes think you could come on and state "Today is Sunday" and somebody would find a reason to argue with you or to be clever about it.

It's wearing and sometimes even upsetting but, as a pp said, it says more about them & the type of person they are than anything else.

Anyone with any empathy about them could totally understand what you were saying about this particular issue and those trying to attack you over it are just a bit pathetic really

WatchMyChops · 11/05/2025 16:41

I didn’t see the troll posts, but can see that a select few posters have had their posts removed. Is it a weekend thing? They’ve somehow crawled from under a bridge 🧌.

ADreamIsAWishYourArseMakes · 11/05/2025 20:02

I agree with the above about MN arguing.

I've noticed a bit of an empathy blind spot for posters on here with infertility and pregnancy loss. If I posted 'AIBU to not go to my friend's baby shower after two weeks after a miscarriage' there would be people who'd be here to tell me I'm being OTT.
