Indian nationals being cheaper to hire in the UK? Not paying NI contributions? What is the massive gain we get from this? As a life-long Labour voter this is just another policy that makes me want to cry. He just doesn’t get it, does he?

Yes but he has no idea how this plays to the audience. He just got a kicking from Reform. He has never had any idea how to do politics.

If the Tories had done this the media coverage would be presenting it very differently to the aidiebfe. And they most likely would have done this eventually when scrabbling around to get a deal. They’ve had to concede all sorts of rubbish to get most of the post Brexit deals over the line and it mostly didn’t make the front pages.

Labour can’t govern by just trying to see how it will play to the audience. It’ll be given the worst possible spin in the media anyway so they should just get on with it.

As I understand it, it applies to Indian companies employing Indian nationals in the UK. It does not apply to UK companies employing Indians, so not actually nearly as big a deal as some are portraying it.

At least that’s my reading of it. Admittedly it is quite confusing.

Edited

Indian companies won’t have to pay employers NI in that time. To me, that looks like better financial sense for them to employ an Indian national rather than a British person. The optics aren’t very good.

Yes it’s about getting Indian companies to invest. Universal are building a new theme park that will create thousands of jobs in that area. It would be heavily criticised if it transpired that the jobs were potentially all going to American nationals who weren’t paying NI, and neither was Universal, for 3 years.

Some people really are aren’t they? Just getting stirred up by the media and really trying to find fault with Labour at every opportunity.

So what’s the alternative? They don’t do business over here and don’t employ anyone? Deals like this would hopefully prevent a reoccurrence of situations like when Tata steel pulled out of Scunthorpe. Thank God China stepped in because if it had closed down it would have been a disaster for Scunthorpe. The tories weren’t smart enough to negotiate a deal like this with Tata at the time.

It’s not me you have to convince. I’m part Indian 😂

it’s working class, out of work, looking for work voters (or anyone who wants to see jobs here go to people living here) who will see this as another reason to vote reform.

Keep going. Without people like you, Reform wouldn’t have half the success it does.

Where as I see this as increasing job opportunities for the working class white people as well 👍🏻. Take Scunthorpe for example. Yes I know Tata are no longer there but when they were I’m sure some senior people there may have been Indian nationals but the people on the steelwork floor were uk nationals. Middle managers were uk nationals. Having these deals increases jobs.

to me the people who are against this are the Reform voters with an attitude of “keep the foreigners out”.

You sound like a racist reform voter to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Are you a Farage supporter. ?

CamillaMacauley · 07/05/2025 06:34

@Keirawr nothing about this deal shouts “mass immigration of low skilled Indian workers “ like your previous comment said.

Thats real fear mongering on your part. In fact I take back my comment that you sound like a reform voter. Actually think you’re more ukip/tommy Robinson fangirl

spoonbillstretford · 07/05/2025 06:36

What Labour policy? The Conservative goverment opened up and increased immigration massively to the rest of the world in 2021 after we lost so many workers from the rest of Europe in 2019 onwards due to leaving the EU.

A policy that was promoted for years by Reform and UKIP.

Why don't you even mention the policy or
provide a link? @sideeyes

Oh they would, the world is full of the gullible and naïve, Reform voters, according to you, vote the way they do to spite people who different views.

Fascinate the fools, then silence the intelligent.... as someone far more intelligent than you once said.

You've proved this over more than a few posts.

And again, yes we know this, because you and I have a good understanding and we have bothered to look into the detail, as well as having a level of comprehension that means we can understand a complex issue like this.

Plenty of people will not have that level of comprehension. It’s not wilful. That doesn’t make them anti foreigner. It could well push them to vote reform though.

Yep, Brexit, which wouldn't have happened with Farage and his ilk, has caused the recent mass migration that has placed huge strain on public services and housing here.

Prior to Brexit, EU workers came here, usually without family dependents, now we accept in parents, children, spouses, often at a rate of 2 or even 3 to 1 for the worker we need.

You perfectly illustrate why Reform won so many council seats last week. Accusing people who disagree with you as being far right just pushes them to Reform.
The smug attitude of personal intellectual superiority reflects the attitude of Labour and is incredibly off putting. If people don't think like you do then they are automatically wrong.
Keep on going though cos it just guarantees a Reform government

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 07/05/2025 06:50

Yes I think there will be a Deform government in the not too distant future

And what an absolute pig's ear they will make of everything.

Labour are making some really dumb decisions rn so I think the dissatisfaction will rise especially if they don't pander to the hysterics in the Reform camp.

lavenderlou · 07/05/2025 06:51

There's no point trying to explain facts to people who have got themselves all worked up about the idea of Indians coming over here. As PP have posted, we have these arrangements with Canada, Japan, USA, NZ and others. Why all the drama about India?

Because he knows his supporters are all uneducated idiots who won’t bother looking for actual facts. Farage knows exactly what checks doing and who he’s manipulating.

There is an element of fool my once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me with people still voting for parties led by Farage.

HellsBalls · 07/05/2025 06:54

This is a disaster for IT workers. What it has done is lower the day rate of the outsourcing companies by 20%.
UK companies will use this to hold salaries down, and it’s just made outsourcing your IT to India much more viable for smaller companies.
Combined with the ‘miracle’ of AI, it will massively reduce entry points into IT.

Labour - 0
Reform - 1
