Chocolate- a few times a week if he has Easter eggs etc. Otherwise maybe weekly.

Sweets- ditto.

Crisps- every school day at break time but we buy Salt n Shake and remove the salt sachet.

Macdonalds- maybe once a year. It’s not somewhere we go.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 06/05/2025 13:44

Chocolate - most days as they'll choose a chocolate for dessert after dinner

Crisps - occasionally

McDs - maybe once a year as my kids don't like hamburgers or chips. They'll end up getting a few fish fingers or chicken nuggets with a tiny bag of apple slices and carrots and it's about £3.50 each just for that.

carcassonne1 · 06/05/2025 13:44

Some 3-4 jellies almost everyday. But the rest very rarely... maybe on holiday.

FiveWhatByFiveWhat · 06/05/2025 13:49

Macdonalds/takeaway type food, never as he doesn't like it (but I do 🤣)

Sweets, hardly ever as again he doesn't like them much, I think it's a texture thing.

Fizzy drinks never, he has juice at parties/out and about but water at home and at school.

Ice cream - he fixates on it because of the cold, so we don't have it in the house (sadly) BUT we all have one when we're out and about once the weather gets nice, so I'd say once a week or so in the spring/summer months.

Cake, about once every couple of weeks, we make one on a Friday night and take slices around when we visit the grandparents etc.

Chocolate - small pieces every day, on the way home from school along with an apple or whatever and after tea with his fruit and yoghurt.

Crisps, maybe once or twice a week, he's not too fussed but they're handy to have in. He'll only eat crinkly cheese and onion!

DS is 5, autistic and eats a slightly limited, but not too bad a diet. He's obsessed with mushrooms for some reason 🤣

I'll also say that family holidays, Christmas and days in the school holidays where he's with my parents, all bets are off!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 06/05/2025 14:29

Shit just used that Yuka app on the pringles 😯they will now be kept as a treat for an airplane journey!
Didn't come out too badly on the rest of my kitchen though need to steer my daughter towards some different oat bars instead of flapjack/granola bars.

Bellaphant · 06/05/2025 14:56

Almost 4 and 6 here.

Chocolate, basically never. They got two easter eggs and they've not even asked for the second one.

Sweets, again, rarely. 6yr old gets the odd packet of haribo if someone has had a birthday, so...once a month?

Biscuits: once or twice a week

Cake: maybe once a fortnight? My 4 year old probably more as she has some gluten free slices we use as snacks

Ice cream/lollies: maybe 2 times a week in nice weather

Mcdonalds: maybe once a fortnight again, as it's next to my daughter's weekend club, which is at lunchtime.

Crisps, probably twice a week

EasternStandard · 06/05/2025 15:01

Biscuit more likely maybe a few a week

Crisps only for middle dc or eldest when here

Sweets seem to creep in from events like Halloween / parties etc

McDonalds never

Youbutterbelieve · 06/05/2025 15:01

McDonald's probably once a month, they had it this weekend and before that it was with the grandparents on 8th April.

Crisps, every other day with lunch usually.

Chocolate/ sweets, probably 3-4 times a week in the 6-8 weeks after Christmas, Easter and Halloween (basically until all chocolate they got at those events are eaten up) and then in the weeks in between hardly ever!

They very rarely have biscuits or cake but do have popcorn most weeks on family movie night and have pizza at least once a week as well.

skippy67 · 06/05/2025 15:04

When mine were school age, they referred to Friday as Sweetie Day, as that was the only day they got sweets after school. 😅

angelinamerry · 06/05/2025 15:06

They either have chocolate or crisps once per day during the week as part of their school snack (they also get fruit). So like a kitkat and apple or packet of crisps and apple etc. Sweets only once at a weekend but only if they ask for them, I don’t offer them but will give them some if they actually ask. McDonald’s maybe once every few months BUT they usually have one McDonald’s-type meal once a week or every 9 or so days which is usually fish fingers, chips and baked beans. If they got to choose a takeaway, they’d rather have a KFC but we only get this once every 3-5 months (DH and I don’t like it so it’s just for them).

InsertUsernameHereeee · 06/05/2025 15:21

McDonald’s every other Saturday. Mini chocolate bar after school every other day when they’re picked up by their grandparents. Crisps maybe once a week.

No3392 · 06/05/2025 15:25

I don't police their snacking, they have a snack drawer with all kids of fruit/crisps/chocolate bars/biscuits. Have done so since youngest was around 7. I seem to need to refill every two weeks or so.

McDonald's/other type of takeaway once every two weeks or so.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 06/05/2025 15:27

Chocolate not every day but probably most days, not huge quantities, sweets every few weeks, MacDonalds a few times a year - if it were up to me it'd be never but their Dad likes to take them on occasion.

GetMeOutOfHere20 · 06/05/2025 15:29

Crisps hardly ever
chocolate everyday usually like a penguin for pudding - my youngest is autistic so we can’t run out
MacDonalds maybe 4-5 times a year if we are on a road trip

Meadowfinch · 06/05/2025 15:41

DS16 doesn't have sweets, chocolates. He doesn't like McD's or fizzy drinks and isn't keen on crisps.

He eats a lot of biscuits though, and fruit, and toast and jam.

He's 6' and skinny. I don't think it's doing him much harm.

CowboyJoanna · 06/05/2025 15:48

My kids have at least one packet of crisps every day as they always have a packet with their lunch. Eldest DD is a chocolate fiend, DS and 3rd DD love sweets after school.
We always have that stuff in the house, I find it prevents people from going silly over it.

We never eat at mcdonalds because its too dangerous round here Shock

Sparrow7 · 06/05/2025 15:50

Crisps: everyday during weekends and holidays with their lunches. Buy with shopping.
Chocolate: Ocasional treat. Sweets more often. But usually as a teat when out rather than buy with shopping.
Macdonalds: never, it's not really our thing. Only eat out maybe ever couple of months, usually Wagamamas as kids are fussy eaters
Takeaways: kids never. DH and I get one ever two months or so.
We don't eat out or get takeaways much because we can't afford it rather than any health worries.

changedusernameforthis1 · 06/05/2025 15:55

We do sweet treats every other day. Crisps are usually daily.
McDonald's I'm not actually sure, as we order lunch eat Saturday but we also switch up between McDonald's, KFC, Subway and our local bakery.

SetinTime · 06/05/2025 16:01

DS doesn't like chocolate or sweets.
He use to be obsessed with a cheese burger happy meal to the point where it was getting out of hand so we had to put in some restrictions. Can't remember the last time he had one now and he hasn't asked for one either.
Crisps he has nearly everyday.

Lassango · 06/05/2025 16:18

Chocolate - A bit each day for a couple of weeks following Easter. A bit on the 1st-24th of December

Sweets - Only if given in party bags

Crisps - A couple of bags a week

Mcdonalds - 4 or 5 times a year

They do have mini cookie bags a few times a week as well.

Mikart · 06/05/2025 17:24

Mine are late 20s. Chocolate/sweet night was Friday night...they could choose a small bar or bag..and i mean small, not the massive ones of today. This was from when they started primary school.
Never took them to a Mcdonalds.

CowboyJoanna · 06/05/2025 17:24

CuriousKangaroo · 06/05/2025 17:33

chocolate - once a week
sweets - once a fortnight (but it’s sweets OR chocolate, not both, and she usually chooses chocolate)
crisps - once a fortnight or three weeks
MacDonalds - once a month

Like your child, my DD went through a phase of asking for chocolate/sweets a lot. Drove me mad and made me realise how addictive sugar is. So I found that it was easier to put blanket rules in place than to deal with the constant badgering. So there is no chocolate/sweets during the week at all. She accepts this now and rarely asks.

For anyone who thinks I am being really hardcore, it’s worth remembering that schools give kids puddings after lunch several times a week. So she is getting sugar - just not from me and DH!

NauseousNancy · 06/05/2025 17:42

I don’t limit sweets/crisps etc. They probably each have a bag of crisps a day, younger one might have two as she is a big crisp fan. They each have dessert after dinner which is usually some sweets or chocolate, I let them choose what they want and how much.

They probably have more on the weekends but I don’t really pay much attention. Grandparents twice a week where I know they eat sweets and chocolate too.

i buy crisps every week in the shopping. Chocolate/sweets I rarely buy, it’s generally stuff from Christmas & Easter.

They never go ott, so I don’t feel the need to limit them. They are free to eat whatever they want, whenever they want it. They don’t have to ask me. Sometimes they pick the sweets/chocolate/crisps sometimes they pick the fruit/veg/cheese snacks. They eat great meals, plenty of fruit and veg, and both healthy weights so I don’t really stress about it. I don’t want food to be a battle for them.

McDonalds only really when we need the convenience, maybe once a month? We don’t do a lot of takeaways because I like to cook.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 06/05/2025 18:11

Crisps- probably 3-4 times a week? More in the holidays. I buy them in the weekly shop

chocolate/sweets- most days at the minute as we are still working through Easter eggs! Usually it’s a couple of times a week- I don’t buy it in the shop but will let DD choose a seeet from the shop on her way home or she’ll have an ice cream at granny’s house

McDonald’s- maybe every 6 weeks? When it’s convenient
