@Thunderpants88 israeli defence force

They gave them free food

We will never set foot in McDonald's ever again

SkibidiSigma · 06/05/2025 12:20

Mine is nearly 7 and would eat junk all the time if I let him. As it is

Chocolate small amount 4-5 times a week
Crisps 4-5 times a week
Sweets - rarely
McDonalds - 2-3 times a year

If it was down to me it would be less but his dad always gives in. Mostly it's stuff bought in the shopping but sometimes he'll get some chocolate from the shop

minipie · 06/05/2025 12:21

CheeseDreamsTonight · 05/05/2025 22:36

Every day, a little bit of chocolate. The rest every now and then.

Same

Although McDonalds basically never, not on principle but they prefer other options

GingerLiberalFeminist · 06/05/2025 12:22

DD is 2. She's never been passionate about chocolate (jelly babies is another matter!). She may have chocolate twice a month, Kelly babies once or twice a week (only 4 max).

She may have crisps once a week - usually at grandparents.

She has never had macdonalds.

It differs vastly with friends and their DC. One family with 3 year old have macdonalds twice a week and chocolates and biscuits every day (dunno about crisps). Another only has non UPF food, all home made vegetarian stuff so no crisps or chocolate.

I think you do you, decide what's right and stick to it.

I think it will get hatder as DD gets older!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 06/05/2025 12:26

BTW DH has chocolate, biscuits and crisps daily and has his own collection of Iceland beige food but I avoid it completely! Mainly as I'm DG/GF. I hope DD adopts my diet not his 😂

Fifthtimelucky · 06/05/2025 12:26

When they were children:

Chocolate: most days they would have something like a kitkat or penguin.

Sweets: only at other people’s houses. I never bought them.
Crisps: only at parties or at other people’s houses.
McDonald’s: I only ever bought them one once.

lighteningthequeen · 06/05/2025 12:32

I buy these as part of our regular shopping, although I never buy them chocolate or sweets because we always seem to have loads that they’ve been given (it’ll take me until Christmas to get through the massive box of Easter eggs they were given!).

Mine are 2 and 4, and I’m happy with them having a sweet treat or bag of crisps every day if they ask for it. Week days they tend not to have any, but only because there’s not really chance for them to ask after school and nursery (fairly pushed for dinner, bath, story, bed!). The rest of their diet is healthy, home made wherever possible, and the school and nursery both have great cooks.

mcdonalds they have once a week, it’s their Friday treat!

Maddy70 · 06/05/2025 12:41

Honestly. Hardly ever. Never bought them , they weren't in the house. My mum used to get the sweets every so often. And an Easter egg but that was probably about it. My son had his first McDonald's at the age of 13

llittledoveblue · 06/05/2025 12:41

They probably have some biscuits everyday. After school they tend to have some juice and a biscuit(or 2) for example.
Crisps, a few times a week but not everyday
sweets such as haribo, once a week at most, I try avoid them and will offer something else.

They don’t have McDonalds very often. But that doesn’t mean I don’t make chips and nuggets in the air fryer for a quick dinner.

we prefer to get fish and chips if having a treat dinner or dominoes but that’s less than once a month

im certainly not the strictest parent with their diets but I try to ensure they eat plenty of fruit and veg with their main meals which they are pretty good at so I think on balance it’s okay what they have

MereNoelle · 06/05/2025 12:46

Stickupherarse · 05/05/2025 23:46

Have to say i’m really surprised and should maybe be a bit more relaxed with my Dc

Thoughts on Pringles?

Pringles are one thing I avoid, they’re barely even food!

Arancia · 06/05/2025 12:52

My kids have these kind of things as treats once in a while. Definitely not on a daily or weekly basis. My husband and I both come from cultures where it isn't normal to eat these kind of things regularly, they are snacks you put out for guests with a cup of tea or a drink before and after a proper meal.

I'm still shocked that British people pack bags of chips/crisps in their kids' lunchbox, and seem to consider it a reasonable thing for kids to eat for lunch on a daily basis. In the country I live in, kids are not allowed to bring sugar and junk into school, so even if I wanted to pack them a bag of crisps, the school would confiscate it.

TreeDudette · 06/05/2025 12:56

McDonalds - hardly ever and she doesn't like them
Crisps - at the most once a week, more often none a week
Dessert - after tea every day
Chocolate spread - every morning on her home made pancakes
Chocolate / sweets / ice cream - 3 or 4 times per week, usually instead of dessert rather than as well as.

She is 14 and helps herself to snacks and treats within reason. She will pick banana rather than crips but does have a sweet tooth.

Cosycover · 06/05/2025 13:00

Chocolate usually a small bar every day. Mcdonalds once a week.

SJM1988 · 06/05/2025 13:04

I have DS7 and DD3 - this applies to DS7 (DD3 gets far less as she is at nursery more)

Currently choc daily (thanks to easter we have alot). One bar after school as a treat. Normally I would switch it up with fruit, sandwiches etc.
Crisps - a few times a week (Thursday picnic after school and Saturday and Sunday snacks).
McDonalds or similar - we probably average 1 a month. Some months none others 2 but over the year once a month. Usually 1 a treat for holidays or after a achievement (football tournament, rugby festival etc)

Chocolate I don't really buy - Christmas then easter stock us up first half of the year. After that maybe a multipack once every week or two.
Crisps - I buy in the weekly shop every week. (DH eats these too for snacks)
I don't buy out and about as its more expensive.

ImFineItsAllFine · 06/05/2025 13:05

Mine are 7 and 5.

Chocolate - small amount daily
Sweets - only if they get them in party bags
Crisps - they don't really like them so very rarely
MacDonalds - never, as there isn't one nearby

DottyV · 06/05/2025 13:07

Chocolate - most days
Crisps - 1 dc a pack a day, 1 maybe a pack a week, 1 hardly ever
Aweets- 2 dc a few times a week, 1 dc rarely
McDs- once a week (family tradition!)

Mine are all still at home but old enough with their own money to buy stuff at the shop themselves. Chocolate consumption has definitely increased since they were young...

Sofasloth · 06/05/2025 13:07

We tried to do low upf so I switched all the crisps for low upf ones. This had the effect of no one ever wanting crisps because the low upf ones are shit 😂

We do McDonald's if caught out in the school holidays. My ds can get full on hangry tantrums (he's 6 not a toddler) and sometimes we need something QUICK. they also have allergies so often can't find things that meet allergy requirement quickly.

Chocolate hardly at all because vegan chocolate is horrible.

comeandhaveteawithme · 06/05/2025 13:12

12 year old and 7 year old
Chocolate - maybe once a week
Sweets - only really at the cinema or at a home movie night, maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks?
Crisps - about 4 times a week
Mcdonalds - about once a month
I've never given my 7 year old a fizzy drink. 12 year old only just started having them and isn't bothered, maybe has a couple a month.

Crisps I buy in the weekly shop, sweets and chocolate usually bought in for a reason or bought when out, McDonalds we have when out or I order in if I'm too busy or tired to cook

Stompythedinosaur · 06/05/2025 13:14

My kids have chocolate every day, my youngest has crisps every day in her packed lunch.

They have free access to snacks both healthy and unhealthy. They are healthy weights. Iay be lucky, but they are quite good at self-regulating.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 06/05/2025 13:16

She's 8.
Crisps (small multi pack sized bag) - weekends though in school holidays it will be a bag a day in her pack up for holiday club, or mini cheddars/twiglets.
Sweets/chocolate - 2-3 times a week. Something sweet though daily for pudding after dinner, examples jaffa cakes/aldi unicorn biscuits/jammy dodgers/mini cookies/party rings/ice lolly/jelly
McDonalds - once or twice a year if we need to stop at service station, KFC - 4-5 times a year if stuck for somewhere to eat on a day out
We also get a takeaway once a month.

We've always got crisps/chocolate/mini bags of skittles or haribo in the house for her. Currently working her way through Christmas selection boxes and Easter egg's, i feel i may need to assist 😀

As long as she is exercising, eating it alongside healthy stuff (which she does, eats a lot of raw veg) and brushing her teeth properly we're not too fussed by the sweet stuff.

littlesilkworm · 06/05/2025 13:18

chocolate once a day or two days, a samll piece of dark chocolate usually, occasionally they have a few in one day for example around Christmaa, but I always try to buy good quality dark chocolate.

sweets very occasionally, usually offered by others

Mcdonalds and other fast foods, almost never

We are not British, from our point of view kids consume far too much fastfood, sweets and sugary drinks etc in this country. It might seem totally normal for most peoplle here because thats how they grow up but I must say it was shocking to us.

Tisfortired · 06/05/2025 13:20

Crisps - eldest never, youngest about 4 days a week
Chocolate - eldest has a bit after dinner every night, youngest has a little bit about 3 nights a week
McDonalds - about monthly

NoThankYouSis · 06/05/2025 13:21

Every day they have something nutritionally sub optimal but they also get good stuff in daily. They go outside in nature, do sports and clubs, sleep well, are tall, fit, healthy and strong and none of us have ever been significantly ill or over or under weight. Its not about good or bad food items to me, its more about balance.

theruffles · 06/05/2025 13:33

Chocolate - rarely, they just don't seem to like it very much
Crisps - maybe 1-2 times a week?
McDonald's - twice a month? They would happily have this every week if allowed.

I do allow them the odd small packet of sweets 2-3 times a week and will pop a few in their lunch boxes as a treat if we're going out and taking a picnic. I buy things like crisps/sweets in the weekly shop if we're running low, so do have them in the house but they're not usually what the kids gravitate towards if they want a snack. We have a lot of chocolate in the house leftover from Easter but they're not really bothered by it.

Ihopeyouhavent · 06/05/2025 13:40

When mine were young, everyday.

McDonalds once a week. We love a takeaway and junk food!
