Trump probably doesn’t even understand the process of becoming Pope.
I’m Catholic, and I just think he’s made himself look like even more of an idiot.
It’s neither funny nor unfunny- he’s making fun of a world wide religious institution- and he’s has shown he has utterly no respect for anyone. He is an arse.

I do feel sorry for Melania, I read last week that she is a practicing Catholic and had to prompt him to take part in the Handshake of Peace during the Pope’s funeral.

Both Vance & Melania are practicing Catholics. Vance has had to make excuses for 45's stunt, which must've stuck in his craw. Can't say that I feel sorry for either of them.

I knew Vance was too, but don’t really care about him. Don’t especially care about Melania either, but maybe hard to have your husband make fun of your religion so publicly.

Undoubtedly. As far as I know, Melania is also pro-choice. She frequently looks disgusted by her husband when she is forced to appear with him.

I only mention the pro-choice thing as another example of how their beliefs are at odds. I imagine it to be an uncomfortable marriage and one which exists in contractual terms only.

JD Vance became Catholic in 2019 probably an election stunt.
Most likely he's a "pray on your knees on Sunday and prey on your neighbors all the other days of the week" variety.
Currently there are very few American politicians who are coming across as decent human beings.

JD Vance was publicly rebuked by the late Pope for his twisting of theology on the topic of love and to whom it is owed.

The RC Church has been to the forefront of efforts to support the recent influx of Hispanic immigrants and asylum seekers in the US, with many parishes setting up immigrant ministries and providing clothing and other life necessities, and also legal aid in filing asylum claims, accompaniment to immigration court dates, etc.

I think this stunt is a shot across the bows of the Church, a warning that trump scores it, and intends to send his storm troopers to raid parish centres where immigrants gather to receive services, to force Catholic hospitals to turn over and refuse to treat undocumented patients, to force Catholic schools to turn over enrolled children, and to force mayors and police forces in sanctuary cities, which are heavily Catholic, to cooperate with his regime in its drive to deport those he is targeting.

Or after Charles dies, Trump mocks up a photo of himself as king of the UK shortly before William is crowned king.
There would be outrage. It would not be deemed funny by many.

Everyday I am still amazed that The Deranged Orangutan in the White House is remotely presidential.

It Biden did this people would see it as another example of his dementia. Yet Trump does it and it’s “funny”.

It’s like a very large number of adults are reverting to childhood and I find it disturbing.

Don't get me wrong, Biden was showing his age moreso than Trump specifically in terms of his voice sounding increasingly frail (particularly in that awful debate).

But in terms of the content of his speech, knowledge and understanding of world events and behaving appropriately, he behaved far more appropriately than Trump.

Biden was a competent statesman showing significant signs of aging (to the point where, even if he could still do the job competently, optics made him a poor candidate). Donald Trump is, and has always been, an ignorant, self-centred man-baby, lacking the intellect, curiosity, temperament, ability and even the desire to adequately discharge the duties of the office.

It wouldn't be considered a joke. It would likely be a fatwa issued. Salmon Rushdie. The cartoonists at the French magazine. A teacher in the UK in hiding all did things that some deemed worthy of violence as revenge.
