I guess I'd say "establishment personified" and "uneducated" don't fit together.

I don't think he's any kind of establishment. The old, respectable Republicans loathe him. He doesn't fit in wealthy New York society. He certainly isn't, as you point out, Ivy League establishment.

"manipulative" ABSOLUTELY, that is why I find his funniness so disturbing. He shouldn't be able to play me like this.
"nepo-baby" yes, as a businessman, but as a politician I think he's self made. I don't know how he did it, but he did it twice, so I no longer believe it was just some kind of accident.
My other half reacts just like you do when I say Trump is punk, so I realise it's a debatable take.
But I think we all like to think of ourselves as shocking and edgy, but also good and nice, too. Whereas punk wasn't really like that. It was bloody awful, in alot of ways. It's supposed to shock and disrupt and the associated humour is a sort of hysteria. Which I think is one of Trump's strengths. (Saying I think Trump has strengths isn't saying I think he uses his strength for good).

There is absolutely nothing self made about either his business or political career.

The only thing worse than being talked about....

Is NOT being talked about.

People finding him funny rather than being outraged are part of the problem.

There are a lot of people on this thread who don't seem to understand that laughing at someone in a derisive, mocking sense does not mean you like them, approve of their views or would ever even think of voting for them.

HappiestSleeping · 04/05/2025 15:44

QuaintShaker · 04/05/2025 01:28

He's just looking for justification to wear a hat indoors.

Make Vatican Great Again.

NuffSaidSam · 04/05/2025 15:48

I think they should let Trump be Pope and take one for the team.

Manage him out of having any actual power. Like Jafar in Aladdin.

Let him be King.

Monty27 · 04/05/2025 01:15

It's an ecumenical matter 😉

The money was just resting in my account.😎

OhreallyOReilly · 04/05/2025 15:52

Daily Mass going Trad Cath here and I find it funny and no one I know is offended. My brothers have been joking about being contenders. Maybe he implying he’s a Catholic? Like others say, to see stuff like that coming out of the White House is laughable.

SusanSHelit · 04/05/2025 15:54

I'm a VERY lapsed catholic but this is deeply offensive.

What a gobshite

The ‘left’ have absolutely no sense of humour and are too easy to wind up

Yeah the right are always laughing at themselves...MTG, ,laura loomer, the christian woman that was getting touched up by her boyfriend when in the audience of a show, then there's the dog killer woman, ole leaker Hegseth, trump ( too many to mention) , eyeliner vance, (actually sucked the life out of the pope) and of course ole swasticars himself musk. They can always take a good joke,....they provide so much material...its nearly effortless. 😂

HaveSomeHam · 04/05/2025 01:12

Why?

I find his arrogance funny.

Why? The Pope just died?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 04/05/2025 15:59

You just know that the Pope mobile would be painted gold.

mathanxiety · 04/05/2025 16:02

He's arrogant, crass, vulgar, and delusional.

Offensive isn't the word for this image.

I hope he has gone too far. There are a lot of Catholics in the US, both conservative and liberal. I highly doubt many of either leaning are amused. I certainly am not.

Echobelly · 04/05/2025 16:05

Pretty sure you have to be both single and Catholic in the very least to be Pope. Trump is so ignorant I don't think he is aware there are different types of Christianity.

’Self-made’??? What type of new crack are you smoking?

He worked with his multimillionaire dad as a slum lord in New York and was given millions by him to set up on his own. His businesses have gone bust multiple times including bankrupting a casino which should be impossible. He’s lived in debt for many years which is why he’s so compromised by foreign powers. They’ve been bankrolling him and he owes them.

mathanxiety · 04/05/2025 16:10

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/05/2025 02:17

It is the latest of a series of demonstrations of Trump's disrespect for Catholics.

His balcony statement on the Pope's death alongside a person in a bunny suit.
His attire at the Pope's funeral.
This picture.

Yes.

Also the blue suit and tie at the funeral.

Execrable.

Aizen · 04/05/2025 16:23

Will he try to annexe the Vatican City? What have they got that he wants I wonder....

luckylavender · 04/05/2025 16:32

@HaveSomeHam - hope you enjoy the recession

Fly1ngG1raffe · 04/05/2025 16:45

I’m not sure why the debate has become about whether this offends catholics or not. It’s a ludicrous act by a deranged man, who is arguably one of the most powerful in the world.
It is incredibly poor taste.

HaveSomeHam · 04/05/2025 16:49

luckylavender · 04/05/2025 16:32

Wonder what Putin has on him
, perhaps Putin is saying right Trumpy baby this is what you're doing this week to look a right prick.
Put out a photo of yourself as pope and I'll get you to do something else that's fucked up next week.😁

Coolasfeck · 04/05/2025 17:03

I wonder if MAGAs are concerned that their dear leader is so off putting he’s managed to gift victories to non conservatives in Germany, Canada and Australia?

Yes the UK Trump fans, Reform did well, but local elections aren’t usually taken seriously by voters unless they have a specific agenda so low turnout. This doesn’t translate to General Elections where voters believe the stakes are higher.

Most of the world has seen Trumps vision for America and has been like ‘nope, don’t want it here!’

If Trump is doing so much winning, why don’t any other major countries wish to follow?

custardlover · 04/05/2025 14:27

I think this is such a dangerous attitude. It’s a short hop from racist ‘jokes’ to kids being murdered for their skin colour.

They’re not fucking jokes, it’s not fucking funny and if you can’t understand that then you are seriously thick as shit.

Honestly, humanity is so stupid and rubbish. Maybe we deserve what we do to ourselves. It’s so depressing seeing people repeatedly voting for the Leopards-eating-faces party and then being shocked when they eventually come for their face.

Sounds to me like you are not much better than Trump.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 04/05/2025 17:49

Sunnyevenings · 04/05/2025 15:19

It really isn't funny. Its incredulous.

Do we know what the reaction to it is in the US?
