That is quite funny

Neededa · 04/05/2025 06:14

I get up earlier than my husband and have BBC news on in the morning. When he comes down for coffee, my first bit of “news” for him, is guess what the lunatic has said/done now?
Cannot wait to show him this one!

hamstersarse · 04/05/2025 06:17

The ‘left’ have absolutely no sense of humour and are too easy to wind up

scalt · 04/05/2025 06:21

Only the pope? I thought politicians usually considered themselves to be God. Thatcher, Blair, Johnson; none of them knew the difference between themselves and God.

Incidentally, a line I once heard is “the pope doesn’t trust God, as he goes round in armoured Rolls Royces, which is more than the Queen does”.

scalt · 04/05/2025 06:23

And I don’t like “funny” politicians. It’s why people loved Boris Johnson. “He’s so funny!”

Lex345 · 04/05/2025 06:26

I feel like I have missed the middle of the joke where the opener was Trump commemorates the pope on balcony with the Easter bunny, and the punchline was here is Trump as the pope.

GrammarTeacher · 04/05/2025 06:28

Those people who find it funny, can you explain the joke? Or why it’s an appropriate thing for the White House to tweet?

Politics is, or should be, serious. This isn’t a farcical film with an idiotic fraternity accidentally leading a country. It’s reality.

Would John Belushi have made a better president I wonder? Although, tbf the bar is low.

HaveSomeHam · 04/05/2025 01:12

Why?

I find his arrogance funny.

You really can't see why that would be disrespectful to catholics?

HaveSomeHam · 04/05/2025 10:16

OchonAgusOchonOh · 04/05/2025 10:01

I’m not getting into a religious debate. I was raised catholic, went to mass every Sunday, my family are all catholic. I couldn’t give a shite about this.
I bet you have no association with the catholic faith, you just like to argue on the internet.

My post was about how I hate trump. But I can’t deny I find him comical.

i am Catholic and from a Catholic background.
Will you explain to me why on earth you find an incompetent, arrogant abuser being in power amusing?

Martymcfly24 · 04/05/2025 10:19

I am Catholic and I would find anyone doing this slightly distasteful.

A man who lives a life that completely contradicts the idea of "love thy neighbor" I find abhorrent.

Where did I say that? It’s awful that he’s in power.

I said I find him amusing.

tobee · 04/05/2025 10:25

He just has to be talked about

But genuinely what about him is amusing!

NestEmptying · 04/05/2025 10:33

It's scary how he can do something like this and the people around him don't talk him out of it. It's actually deranged for a world leader to post something like this so why didn't any of his staff stop it happening?
Imagine if literally any other world leader tried to do this - they would have advisors telling them why it's a bad idea, suggesting they get a mental health check etc.
Trump has now surrounded himself with people that never say no to him, there are no sensible people left in the White House, there can't be - and that's very alarming.

I was also raised catholic, went to mass every Sunday, my family are all also Catholic so yes, whilst I am no longer catholic I respect the religious beliefs of my family.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/05/2025 10:37

I’m Catholic, if it wasn’t for the timing this would be laughable. But he’s really picked his moment badly. Unfortunately I also do t think he’s joking. He’d love to be pope. The last absolute monarchy in the world. He’d love it. 😡

HelpMeGetThrough · 04/05/2025 06:06

That is quite funny

Perhaps on the next anniversary of Queen Elizabeth, he can dress up in drag as the queen. How hilarious would that be to people?

Vitrolinsanity · 04/05/2025 12:18

Monty27 · 04/05/2025 01:15

It's an ecumenical matter 😉

He is so insanely preposterous, offensive and dangerous, but you’re right PP he does look better in a hat.

He apparently said to a reporter “I’d like to be Pope”, and you can almost hear the SNL writers revving up their laptops.

PhilippaGeorgiou · 04/05/2025 12:20

OchonAgusOchonOh · 04/05/2025 01:10

Really? I have very little time for the catholic church but that is beyond disrespectful

I agree. Disgusting behaviour.

redboxer321 · 04/05/2025 12:22

I can't abide Trump but, come on, it was a joke.
Not a very good one. Trump isn't able to make a good joke but it was just a joke.

"Jokes" are acceptable when they are hugely offensive to many, many people? How does that work? Sexual harassment is "just banter" now is it?

He's an idiot, I agree, but he is also a world leader, and deliberately doing something that many people would find grossly offensive, like tweeting yourself dressed as the Pope, or turning a war torn country where people are dying daily into a holiday resort are not jokes - they are the worst of offensive bad taste.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 04/05/2025 12:37

Oh Trump has such a great sense of humour when jokes are made about him or his administration. He doesn't overreact or flip out at all, no siree Bob.

He's shot himself in the foot with this one, anyway. He has a lot of conservative, Catholic support and they are not happy with this at all.

redboxer321 · 04/05/2025 12:44

@PhilippaGeorgiou
I must admit I hadn't seen the image of him dressed as Pope. Thought people were talking about the throwaway comment when he said he thought he'd make a good Pope.
