The trouble is, 'jokes' are his key tactic. He makes jokes to test the water and push boundaries on political manoeuvres. If they are received well, he pushes forward. If the faithful don't like it or it isn't deliverable, he can shrug it off with,
"Hell, it was just a JOKE, you humourless dem"*

*even though it appeared on one of the state's official communication channels and we're not supposed to make jokes on there.

MyKingdomForACat · 04/05/2025 13:05

Typical narcissistic behaviour from a typical narcissist

Those people who find it funny, can you explain the joke? Or why it’s an appropriate thing for the White House to tweet?

Politics is, or should be, serious. This isn’t a farcical film with an idiotic fraternity accidentally leading a country. It’s reality.

It's very difficult to explain jokes - that saps the humour out of them, so then they're not funny anyway.
Part of what makes this funny (to me) is that it's such an outrageously inappropriate thing for the White House to tweet, so I can't help you there.
Of course politics should be serious. I don't find it uplifting or inspiring. I find it makes me laugh - the irreverence, the incongruence. It's punk, as I said. He's incredibly good at it. He's not a good president, he's probably not a good man. But he is very funny.

There is nothing punk about Trump! He’s the establishment personified. An uneducated, manipulative nepo-baby.
Not punk. Not funny.

I can't abide Trump but, come on, it was a joke.
Not a very good one. Trump isn't able to make a good joke but it was just a joke.

I think this is such a dangerous attitude. It’s a short hop from racist ‘jokes’ to kids being murdered for their skin colour.

They’re not fucking jokes, it’s not fucking funny and if you can’t understand that then you are seriously thick as shit.

Honestly, humanity is so stupid and rubbish. Maybe we deserve what we do to ourselves. It’s so depressing seeing people repeatedly voting for the Leopards-eating-faces party and then being shocked when they eventually come for their face.

It's hilarious in the sense of laughing at him because he's an utter clown. Imo it is perfectly possible to have moments of mirth at examples of his total idiocy while still being aware how disastrous it is that he's in charge of the US. I don't think it's especially disrespectful, and actually don't think people should have to be respectful to the Catholic church anyway.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 04/05/2025 14:45

These edgy jokes normalise and exacerbate existing divisions and stir up more problems in society. He's a completely embarrassing excuse for a human being but his jokes are entirely serious and have a serious impact on the lives of the millions he governs and the world at large.

OonaStubbs · 04/05/2025 14:58

Since Trump won the election, could it not be said that he is more in tune with public opinion? People like internet memes. Maybe it is the politicians that are all po-faced and serious in public (while in many cases being corrupt and sordid in private) that are wrong?

MissyB1 · 04/05/2025 15:02

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/05/2025 02:17

It is the latest of a series of demonstrations of Trump's disrespect for Catholics.

His balcony statement on the Pope's death alongside a person in a bunny suit.
His attire at the Pope's funeral.
This picture.

This 👆 it's a very deliberate "fuck you" to the Catholic faith, and that says a lot about his attitude towards his wife as well.

Middleagedstriker · 04/05/2025 15:05

HaveSomeHam · 04/05/2025 01:12

Why?

I find his arrogance funny.

It would be funny if what he was doing wasn't going to make a lot of poor people in the USA and abroad harder as he fucks with the world order.

Well I didn’t vote for him 🤷‍♀️

I find his arrogance funny.

He is being unbelievably rude here. The President of the USA behaving like this is an absolute disgrace and incredibly disrespectful. I don't find him funny at all.

Middleagedstriker · 04/05/2025 15:11

HaveSomeHam · 04/05/2025 15:07

Well I didn’t vote for him 🤷‍♀️

Yeah but you still find him funny. Bet you won't find it quite as funny when we have a recession on the back of their recession.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 04/05/2025 15:12

He lost me when he raped women and bragged about grabbing their genitals. I don't find rapists amusing.

Deadringer · 04/05/2025 15:13

If someone had mocked this up it would be sort of funny, but the fact that it was released by the White House is just insane, and not remotely amusing.

Oh dear. I bet a lot of you have very high blood pressure.

Me finding his ridiculously out there attitude has no bearing on whether or not there will be a recession. And there’s fuck all I can do about it.

luckylavender · 04/05/2025 15:15

HaveSomeHam · 04/05/2025 01:04

😆

I mean, I fucking hate him. But I also hate how much he makes me laugh.

People finding him funny rather than being outraged are part of the problem.

But that’s what I find funny! The absolute absurdity of someone in such a position behaving this way!
I’m not saying I agree with it, I would never vote for a person like him, he is a joke of a man. But it’s funny.
Imagine Keir Starmer putting out an image of himself as the pope… it’s so ridiculous that I’d have to laugh

Actually I'm very mellow. Just not fooled by the "funny act". When really he is turning America into a dictatorship. The same with Farage pretending to be a man of the people, when we all know he is a racist private school ex banker.

It really isn't funny. Its incredulous.

Do we know what the reaction to it is in the US?

Would people consider it a joke if he dressed as a Muslim prophet?

GildedRage · 04/05/2025 15:37

He seems to have issues with boundaries.
Appropriate social behaviour. He’s really making a mockery of the American public and countries world wide who are sucking up to him.
He’s front page fodder and really needs to be reprimanded, ignored and replaced.
