evening wise mumsnetters

ive been thinking tonight about loo roll useage (happy bank holiday i hope yours is as thrilling as mine) and i was wondering how long it takes for one person to use up one toilet roll

i will be the first to admit im heavy handed with a loo roll i do use too much BUT I am currently house/pet sitting for a family friend for two weeks and they have left me three loo rolls... 3 loo rolls for 2 weeks, they have vastly underestimated me haven't they

so say you were living alone, how long would one loo roll last you id like to know how off piste i am

It depends if they’re cheap crappy rolls with a few sheets or the bug double sized rolls, but I use a lot! IBS sufferer and I work from home half the week.

Doncarlos · 03/05/2025 07:22

As a couple we go through one roll a day. And we buy the thick stuff so it’s utterly ridiculous. Although husband does have IBS so I’ll use that as an excuse.

Katemax82 · 03/05/2025 07:55

In my family of 6 we have to buy loo roll in packs of 24 every 2 weeks with probably a few 9 packs when we run low. I personally don't use a hello of a lot but my daughter and husband use shit loads (pardon the pun)

kitchenplans · 03/05/2025 07:58

We're a family of 4 who have 48 loo roll delivered every 12 weeks. That's 1 roll per person per week. We tend to end up stockpiling a bit too.

So I'd say 1 roll per person per week is plenty.

True. It also depends if they're 2 or 3 ply.i get through a lot more with 2ply - it's far too tearable.

It depends whether you do solid poos or messy ones 🤷‍♀️ Messy poos use loads of loo roll. I could easily get through a roll per day.

“When I was growing up, I was not allowed any more than 3 squares of loo roll... for anything.”
Did we grow up in the same house?? My father imposed this rule, which I thought was outrageous - my sister who had a job promptly went out and bought her own loo paper. These days, I use as much as I need as does everyone else, but I do notice that if one of my daughters comes home, our loo roll usage doubles overnight! To the OP: I think it’s a very personal thing - but I would have left you a whole packet of loo paper, so at least nine rolls, not because I would expect you to use it, but just so you couldn’t possibly run out!

I'll give you the benefit of doubt but there seems to be a lot of these toilet habit posts of late

How? What do you do with it?

Pee and poop obviously but then I blow
nose, clean and dry my ears after a shower, dry my glasses after washing them, wrap up my used panty liner to put in the bin. It’s very versatile is bog roll 😁

BeanQuisine · 03/05/2025 09:52

susiedaisy1912 · 03/05/2025 05:49

I use one loo roll every 24 hours on my own.

Ditto this end. I will often use half a double length roll a day, i.e., one normal length roll a day. Sometimes more.

But I do like to maintain a very clean posterior, and the diet doesn't always cooperate.

intrepidpanda · 03/05/2025 10:15

2 of us go through 1 roll a week (though it's the fat roll)
DP is WFH and I go to the toilet A LOT.

incandescentglow · 03/05/2025 10:25

as i said in the og post i do tend to fly through it so i obviously brought a pack of my own too, that's not an issue, it just highlighted to me how high my usage must be compared to other people

someone mentioned "maintaining a clean posterior" which i do think is relevant to me too, i always make sure im very clean hence why i do a few wipes just to make sure

also i am on my period now so naturally using a lot more, i am also a victim of period poops therefore its eeeeeeeeeven higher

Unless there are bowel issues, this surprises me.

HerNextDoorAgain · 03/05/2025 11:18

Baby lotion on loo roll to wipe your arse with saves a lot of repeated wiping for those that want to cut down their paper use.

You are never going to be ‘very clean’ just with loo roll, however much you wipe. You are just wasting loo roll. Maybe consider a portable bidet if that is your concern.

How exactly was the above policed? Did said parents stand over you?

My parents were very short of money when I was growing up. We regularly had newspaper in place of loo roll. Hence why they were strict about how much we used. No one wanted to use newspaper.

TheCurious0range · 03/05/2025 15:50

We get through 1-2 a week as a family of 3 but during the day during the week everyone is out at work/school

ToadRage · 03/05/2025 15:59

Depends who is here, for just me and my husband it lasts a few days, but we had his cousin stay with us once and we are pretty sure she eats it cos with only one extra in the house it would be gone within a day even with all three of us out at work all day. Can not understand where it all went!

AtLeastIDidntUseASpoon · 03/05/2025 16:21

It wouldn’t be anywhere near enough for me. I have horrendous stomach problems and can easily go through one or two double rolls a day. I use Tesco double rolls and if I go away I always take extra, really wouldn’t want to run out. At home, I make sure there’s plenty in the bathroom, we’ve got a metal toilet roll stand that holds about 5 spare. I always make sure it’s full. I’ve found a lot of people who don’t have stomach problems really don’t understand how much paper you can go through a time. I’d love to not have any stomach problems.
