And that he's no economist skills yet promising the impossible. And a racist. And mysoginist.

If Mumsnet is full of women, how is no-one talking about Reform and limiting women's rights?
I know I'll get flamed for this, but it is a boiling frog situation! Jump out!
And I didn't choose the AIBU board but I looked down all the Current Threads and this didn't feature.

Their plan to stop them crossing the channel is to let them drown by towing the boats back out to sea if the French wont have them back.

Oh like the Italians do then.

There are no houses, people stuck in temp accommodation with a 10-15 year wait
2 year hospital waiting lists
Schools are over subscribed
No NHS dentists
10 hour waits in A&E
No GP appointments
Private rented houses skyrocketing

People are absolutely desperate for change. They’ll vote for whoever promises it

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum
I think you may be right, at least in some situations.
I worked with a woman (in a supermarket) who remarked to me "I hate fucking foreigners buying pregnancy tests" - presumably by 'foreigners' she meant people who aren't white. Failing to acknowledge that there are people living here who may not be white, but were born and brought up here. Including, in some cases, their parents and maybe even grandparents.
Then before last year's General Election she announced she was going to vote Reform.
I know it's not everyone. But I'm pretty sure she's not alone in her views.

I agree with him that there should be a debate on lowering the abortion limit, that’s a perfectly valid opinion. I think 24 weeks IS too late in the vast majority of cases, unless Mum’s life is threatened.

Have you see what a 20 week old baby looks like? I have, twice at my own scans. I was amazed at how much they were already formed, I could see their spines, their organs. They certainly look like actual babies.

How much time have you spent in the NICU? I was there round the clock with my first was rushed there born 2 weeks early with a life threatening infection. His amazing team were caring for several babies delivered before/around 24 weeks who were thriving under their care.

A vanishing small number of abortions are carried out at 24 weeks, almost entirely because either the baby has no chance of life, or the mother's life is in danger.

Reducing abortion rights is an attack on women's health and medical well-being. Please, please, do not be influenced by the mad right wing in the US who wants us back in the kitchen popping out babies every year.

The core problem that people have is that they see their communities and culture disappearing around them. Any party in theory could address the economic issues but Reform is the only one even trying to grapple with the cultural issue in and of itself.

Look at that councillor in Burnley who wants to "prevent free mixing" between Muslim men and women in public areas!

Imagine living there as a white British person - your culture isn't just what spices you put on your food. It's about your core way of life, including your view of the fundamental role of women in society. I don't think it's a coincidence that a lot of the places that just elected Reform councils also are areas where "Gaza independents" (read: Muslim ethnic bloc voting, standing for extremely conservative religious policies) also were elected. Because the people living in those areas don't want to get to 2029/onwards and have even more MPs who want to vote for segregation, radical religious fundamentalism, and their own ethnic interests.

That doesn't explain why they have been elected in my area. In a land locked county there are no small boats either.

Racism and antisemitism are not developmentally normal phases of teenage behaviour FFS.

The mental gymnastics that people are willing to do to defend or deny the existence racism in this country is truly mind boggling.

That poster didnt say that

But while we're on the matter, children and teens in particular are extremely rigid and dont like difference. Its a normal developmental stage, they can be incredibly judgemental. They're told not to be in today's society but the general feeling in most teens is that difference is awkward, embarrassing, shunnable. Its a normal developmental phase to want predictability and safety around you while you're still trying to make sense of yourself and the world around you.

This is a generalisation of course, there are lots of people who werent like that. I was one of them but ironically was the 'odd one out' because I embraced left wing views (1980s). So I was different.

floppybit · 03/05/2025 08:23

It’s because of uncontrolled mass immigration. Where you live you may not see its effects and be able to go about your life with blinkers on, but the effect on where I live has been devastating and continues to get worse and worse. I sympathise with them hugely on a personal level and if I were in their shoes I would do the same thing, but it’s not practical for everybody who comes from a poor/danegerous place to move here - unfortunately there are too many poor/dangerous places!

marshmallowmix · 03/05/2025 08:24

Whatever is said about Reform the results speak for themselves …the polls show what the mood is.

Hence why Labour cancelled/delayed May elections in nine counties they knew they would be trounced…the seats the did hold were only due to reform/con splitting the vote.

People can harangue on here and push Labour all they like it doesn’t actually matter a jot as I doubt they’ll ever see power again if the past 11 months are anything to go by.

He’s been around for years and some people haven’t realised yet. So, will they ever? The news reporting doesn’t help. They talk about the colour of the emperor’s clothes, rather than pointing out he isn’t wearing any.

I don't think Reform is any of these you have mentioned. I don't think Reform are racist, misogynistic or that they limit womens rights. Name calling and slandering is all the far lefties have when they have no proper arguments. They just put their fingers in their ears and call people names and slander them. Anybody who votes differently to you isn't a racist, misogynist or against womens rights either. You speak as if you and your little name-calling buddies are the only ones who know what is right and wrong 🤪

100%.

it’s having a huge detrimental effect and will get a whole lot worse.

IhaveanewTVnow · 03/05/2025 08:28

It was for county elections. I doubt they will make any changes. In Kent, they are not in charge of the port of Dover.
most county council functions are statutory, funded by central govt, council tax. They do not have the authority or power to limit women.

I can’t see much changing. It was a protest vote in Kent because people are sick to death of watching the boats land on their coastline everyday and nothing is being done. It’s all we could do. Marching and protests get us called racists.

One day, if Reform ever get in (ugh) people will find out that it isnt immigrants taking all the money, but another group in society. Except we already know this.

Which group? Numerically, it’s the old.

Some immigrants are a huge boost to public finances and others a huge drain. Neither simplistic story is correct.

AAAAGH Reform. Are people ignoring the racist?
sualipa · 03/05/2025 08:29

The Waleses may not do much, or the Doolittles, when they do get centre stage — and if they don't up their game considerably, the 'spongers' epithet will stand royally

Calling people racist doesn't work anymore.
How are they limiting women's rights?

I'm not sure what you mean by saying, 'Calling people racist doesn't work anymore'. It works for me. If you're a racist, I'll call you a racist. See. It's easy.

One example of a threat to women's rights is that Farage wants to lower the abortion limit.

It is a largely immigrant workforce that is keeping the NHS afloat.

Pay decent wages, offer apprenticeships for youngsters and I’m sure there are enough people in the UK looking for work who would love to work in the NHS.

Twinstudy · 03/05/2025 08:34

They're not ignoring the racist. They're embracing the racist. Because they are racist. Or stupid. Or both.

And yes people don't like it when it's said. Apparently people saying it are the reason people vote Reform or some other such nonsense. Or it could just be true

Winlan81 · 03/05/2025 08:34

I think people on all sides are severely deluded.

The country is heading in a very bad direction, but so are many countries. The global economy is changing.

Reform represent a protest against the dominant two party system, the economy is in a bad way and mass immigration in to an island 2.5x smaller than France, but with the same population, is utterly ridiculous. We are not mass importing the worlds skilled, we are mass importing mostly military age men from everywhere, thats it. Here in London, the population density even in the outer boroughs is getting ridiculous! There is no additional hospitals, schools, infrastructure just blocks and blocks of new human filing cabinets! Even if there was infrastructure, whats the plan? Concrete over the country? Plus, many people coming here really dont seem to have any interest in this country or its people and many do add significantly to crime stats! Direct experience for me.

Reform will not change anything though, because the system does not allow for change without a total collapse! The political establishment and the corporate establishment, including banks, are too entwined in the governance and relative stability of the country.

However, we cannot continue in the current direction without a plummet in stability and standard of living. I do mean a plummet! That could be by design though as the global economy goes through a turning!

The answer is probably too complex but a simple answer could be just the world needs less greed and for every government in the world to look after their own, for every country in the world to be free and open societies and for every country in the world to prioritise wellbeing over power, control and obscene wealth! A tall order for sure!

The one sided views on here though do nothing to help at all! See the world through all lenses! Dont be so blinkered while claiming moral high ground. When you point you finger at someone, you have three pointing back at you. People are struggling, even if you arent.

Reform propose abolition of the Equality Act.

They’ve spoken about abolishing EDI roles in local authorities.

I've noticed they like to copy the states now and call it DEI.
Problem is ...when you get rid of the championing of equity and equality then everyone suffers apart from the richer white male.
I've just spent three months on work writing about impacts of inequality including low socio-economic class in my area, amongst others. I won't be able to do this under Reform power according to their policies.

Let me be clear positioning equity policies and work as unnecessary is dangerous to all of us including white working class males.
The rich white male will just get richer and they have no intention of letting you share their wealth ...whatever they say.
