And that he's no economist skills yet promising the impossible. And a racist. And mysoginist.

If Mumsnet is full of women, how is no-one talking about Reform and limiting women's rights?
I know I'll get flamed for this, but it is a boiling frog situation! Jump out!
And I didn't choose the AIBU board but I looked down all the Current Threads and this didn't feature.

It doesn’t matter whether you agree with it or not. It’s none of your business.

BIossomtoes · 04/05/2025 19:34

How does this affect your life in any way? All women are free to dress as they choose.

It’s very problematic, not seeing the face means we cannot communicate effectively given facial expressions are how we read people .

StupidBoy · 04/05/2025 17:57

Tell that to the lions, otters, wild dogs, seals, tigers, foxes, eagles, polar bears and killer whales. Even the chimpanzees. We are designed to eat meat. We are healthier for eating meat. It's nature. It's normal. If we all ate nothing but unprocessed meat and fish, with simple fruit and vegetables in exactly the same form as they come off the tree or out of the ground, then virtually none of us would have diabetes, heart disease, imflammatory disease or obesity.

Every time I see this argument being used I just actually shake my head in absolute dispair…

Wild animals know no different. They hunt, for their own food to survive.

Can they just pop down the road to Tesco. No.

Exactly. Not to mention the safety aspect or if someone ever needed to be identified in a crime/investigation situation. It’s dangerous.

(cue the racist card again!) ‘are you saying all Muslims who wear face coverings commit crimes’ … I can literally hear it.

BIossomtoes · 04/05/2025 19:56

It’s no more dangerous than it was for us all to obscure our faces during covid.

hattie43 · 04/05/2025 19:59

Yep . Photo ID , passport, driving license is no good if you can’t see the face . Wasn’t there a guy trying to evade the police in a burka a while back .

It’s probably time the UK withdraws from the Refugee Convention.
It allows unlimited asylum applications and we have no means to control the numbers.
The convention is from a bygone age.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 04/05/2025 19:42

Women covering their faces is not something I agree with morally and culturally and many other countries have banned it. And 'dress as they choose' is laughably ignorant.

Exactly! Dressing as they choose? 😂😂
In your typical Muslim family the girls have no choice but to wear a scarf or hijab. Are you seriously suggesting that a fashion conscious teenager who has free choice has chosen to wear a hijab? Women are treated as second class citizens and I do not think this backward view should be tolerated in the U.K. today.

OneAmberFinch · 04/05/2025 20:05

@LookingForRecommendation Someone told me earlier in this thread that it's okay to import millions of men from misogynistic cultures and it won't have any impact because "misogyny is a British value" anyway.

I'm not saying there isn't any sexism at all in the UK but the level we have is not even close to being on the same order of magnitude! They're incomparable!

Wild animals know no different. They hunt, for their own food to survive.

Can they just pop down the road to Tesco. No.

This is an argument for not ripping a live animal limb from limb as a means of killing it to eat, and therefore ensure your own survival.

It is not an argument for vegetarianism or veganism, or if it is, it's a very flawed and naive one. I also shake my head in despair that you appear not to understand this.

Because by acting like religious freedom should entitle anyone to do as they wish, and it’s nobody else’s business, you sleepwalk into a theocracy.

I agree. This has been obvious to anyone paying attention for a while.

The unstated mechanism which previously restricted numbers without anyone having to be mean and say no explicitly was that the requirement to physically be in the country was hard to meet. That's increasingly not the case.

There is effectively no other cap.

‘’What are you talking about?
What is the plan?
And ' let's see' ?
I knew it before but this country is gone..lost to racists and people with no empathy for others.
These people will also be celebrating V.E. day, the bloody nerve of them after voting for a far right party.’’
@Guinessandafire

Wow.

Imagine fighting and losing your life to then find out the people you fought for years later are fighting for the right for ILLEGAL’s and CRIMINALS who have raped, murdered and stolen from the very people they were trying to save, come and live freely off the British tax payers expense whilst being wronguns!!

They will be turning in their bloody grave the state of it all, it’s shameful!

👏 👏 shocking. I shall be celebrating VE day and so will most of the population in Lincs. Then again, we aren't ashamed to be British where I live.

I don’t know much about politics but people seem to brush reform off with ‘racist’ ‘ism’ and leave it at that.

Why exactly are they racist? Genuine question.

Is it just because they want to limit illegal migration? If so that doesn’t strike me as particularly racist in itself.

Middle class white women do lean heavily left, and seem to have a hard time understanding others points of view.

Obviously we should take asylum seekers, but at a minimum we need to know who they are, and a maximum number per year.

I think the Hong Kong and Ukraine schemes show it's perfectly possible to have specific schemes with their own rules, time limits, caps etc that are responsive to specific events. Plausibly also could have a capped scheme for general UN migrants (Australia e.g. has this - for a limited number of selected families from UN camps) which is assessed each year against resources available. Entirely possible and in 2025, almost certainly wouldn't damage our reputation among other western countries as they all have similar issues and it's just that no-one wants to be the first to seem mean and withdraw!
