And that he's no economist skills yet promising the impossible. And a racist. And mysoginist.

If Mumsnet is full of women, how is no-one talking about Reform and limiting women's rights?
I know I'll get flamed for this, but it is a boiling frog situation! Jump out!
And I didn't choose the AIBU board but I looked down all the Current Threads and this didn't feature.

These are just a few. It is less than one week since a change to the law was agreed to prevent known foreign sex offenders from claiming asylum. Prior to that, known sex offenders could claim refugee protections. And that is known offenders - who knows how many sex offenders are able to enter the UK as they don’t exactly undergo a PVG/DBS check.

We have to also acknowledge that many countries people are migrating from have appalling women’s rights and have cultures where women and girls are seen as less than men/worthless. Rape gangs in the UK such as in Rotherham etc bear testament to this. These men are not going to land in the UK and suddenly be pro equal rights.

As previously stated, I’d like nothing more than to protect all women and girls in such places but the UK is not equipped to do so socially, legally or financially.

This is the question I have @Moveanymountainhow would we know?

Yes those incidents are terrible but in that particular case it sounds like the perpetrator is very mentally unwell, his trial has had to be delayed because he is too unwell. His background may or may not be relevant there we don't know.

These cases don't mean that all immigrants are going to stab soldiers. Any more than incidents like these:

https://www.trtworld.com/europe/stabbing-near-london-is-far-right-terrorism-uk-police-say-12723154

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Jo_Cox

Or the rioters trying to set fire to a hotel full of asylum seekers, mean that all right wing people are going to stab immigrants. There will always be outliers, extremists and dangerous people from all backgrounds.

Drinking the KoolAid then… and yes, you’re a racist buying a stack of populist soundbites w little foundation in truth.

I guess you didn’t see the thread on here not so long ago when a mum was worried about 500 young male African migrants being housed in accommodation yards from her DDs primary school? Responses were almost everyone saying YANBU.

It’s not about race - it’s about men from a culture where women and girls are second class citizens, with no background checks causing people to have concerns. I’d feel exactly the same if they were the same race.

The best and kindest idea is not to eat them in the first place.

Tell that to the lions, otters, wild dogs, seals, tigers, foxes, eagles, polar bears and killer whales. Even the chimpanzees. We are designed to eat meat. We are healthier for eating meat. It's nature. It's normal. If we all ate nothing but unprocessed meat and fish, with simple fruit and vegetables in exactly the same form as they come off the tree or out of the ground, then virtually none of us would have diabetes, heart disease, imflammatory disease or obesity.

I'm not getting into this debate anymore, it's derailing the thread and is so old it has whiskers on.

I'm veggie so I don't support the meat industry.

That's it.

Virtue signalling is more important than the safety of women and children. Sad.

Why can so many posters scream blue murder about misogyny here yet fail to see, or excuse, the genuinely horrific and 1000-times-worse misogyny across virtually all the countries these asylum seekers are travelling from?

Can anyone answer?

This is a brilliant example of how myths and anecdotes become multiplied, sometimes accidentally, sometimes not.

My former work colleague wasn’t too happy when she was told not to eat in the office during Ramadan because it upset her Muslim Co-workers.

Was she told not to eat anything in the office? Did it upset her colleagues? Did any of her colleagues report being upset? Did she have a conversation with them about it?

Or...

Was she asked to think about what and when she ate in the office in order to help her colleagues get through their fast?

If you can't do the second, you're a pretty nasty individual.

Why are either of those scenarios reasonable?

Why should somebody have their food intake controlled so as not to offend other people? Fucking madness. Madness.

Exactly! What if the colleague was disabled so wasn’t able to leave the office to go for a walk but they had to eat lunch in order to take pain medication? It’s a choice for a person to fast as is belief in religion. These beliefs and practises should not be forced on others in a work environment. Most people in the U.K. are not religious so religious customs are not relevant anyway!

Thank you! My point exactly. It’s nothing to do with race - it’s a cultural thing. Women and girls are treated appallingly in these countries - especially the poorest. I visited Morroco once and our guide told us that because of access to pornography, the men saw all white women as wh*res (disgusting word which I can’t write in full).

These are men who gladly partake in FGM “ceremonies”, whooping and cheering as the young girls are “cut” and we are expected to welcome them here because they are seeking asylum? Shocking.

Labour aren’t trying to stop the boats they will house them and give them leave to remain in return for votes…let’s hope they never see another term in government again ! They have alienated every sector in such a short time that takes some doing…

I believe Starmer is the most unpopular PM in history they are fools and incompetents…

Doesn’t make it fake news though. These things are happening on a daily basis. It is not racist to be concerned about it.

How short memories are - Truss is so quickly forgotten. And you’re probably too young to recall Thatcher.

Yep 👍 absolutely this! I said this earlier these men are coming from countries whose views are in the Stone Age regarding women it’s medieval…we should not entertain them simple as that. Our safety should be paramount we can’t help all especially when their views are so polar opposite to our own.

hattie43 · 04/05/2025 19:30

There are so many women where I live with faces covered and young girls at my childrens' primary school age 6+ with hair covered, and it is not something I agree with at all. I have now seen three posters in my neighbourhood saying variations of 'praise Allah' and 'give in the name of Allah'...and the main screens at our local train station were displaying hadiths not long ago before an outcry meant they were removed. I do not agree with any regressive misogynistic ideologies being part of our lives in this way.

I’m a type 1 diabetic. If I’m in hypo I have no choice but to eat right then and there, usually something sweet and ‘appealing’ to others. If somebody told me not to because it offended their religious beliefs I would tell them to do one. I’m religious myself (although not rabidly), and would never expect anyone to accommodate my beliefs in any way.

Why does it affect the poster’s life that many around her may hold very misogynistic views? Are you being serious?

And many aren’t free (although some are). That’s the point

CrazyAboutFurBabies · 04/05/2025 19:40

‘’What are you talking about?
What is the plan?
And ' let's see' ?
I knew it before but this country is gone..lost to racists and people with no empathy for others.
These people will also be celebrating V.E. day, the bloody nerve of them after voting for a far right party.’’
@Guinessandafire

Wow.

Imagine fighting and losing your life to then find out the people you fought for years later are fighting for the right for ILLEGAL’s and CRIMINALS who have raped, murdered and stolen from the very people they were trying to save, come and live freely off the British tax payers expense whilst being wronguns!!

They will be turning in their bloody grave the state of it all, it’s shameful!

Women covering their faces is not something I agree with morally and culturally and many other countries have banned it. And 'dress as they choose' is laughably ignorant.
