And that he's no economist skills yet promising the impossible. And a racist. And mysoginist.

If Mumsnet is full of women, how is no-one talking about Reform and limiting women's rights?
I know I'll get flamed for this, but it is a boiling frog situation! Jump out!
And I didn't choose the AIBU board but I looked down all the Current Threads and this didn't feature.

Interesting.

19,000 eh ?

That was to Jan 2025, so old news

Since then we have had 10,000 small boat crossings. So according to your calculations that's another 5000 that should have been returned, I don't see any mention of that. 🤔

I am an immigrant (skilled worker). I'm a Boriswaver even! When I was considering coming here I was on various forums where people discussed different countries they could migrate to.

The British system was widely considered one of the easiest particularly since 2020 and if you had any connections who could sponsor you (keep in mind there is NO labour market test, employers are entirely free to just hire someone in their extended network often from their home country without advertising locally at all).

Rob Jenrick took steps in his time as immigration minister to set the contribution thresholds for NHS etc to actually reflect the measured load on the system (this was in 2023/24!! until then it was below actual usage) and minimum salaries to a "net contributor" level. The current Labour government has also taken steps to withdraw sponsorship licences from companies that have no business sponsoring anyone (kebab shops, corner stores, fake care agencies etc).

Until these things happened it was a free-for-all and I'm only talking about the work visa routes which everyone always says they're okay with. Not even touching family and student visas let alone asylum pathways.

Sorry, I don't really understand your point?

The issue with dubious sponsorships and employers is that it's a recipe for modern slavery and trafficking. Desperate people being misled, exploited and trapped. Those people are certainly not responsible for the strain on our services!

Their chairman is a brown Muslim so they are hardly racist.

Nigel rejected Tommy Robinson.

It’s sadly not uncommon for people who have benefitted from immigration to be against it. Look at Rishi Sunak. Was talking to someone the other day, son of Polish immigrants, he was banging on about the boats too.

Reform all the way! If I’m racist for saying that then so be it.

You are of course not racist for saying that but what is it about their manifesto that you support and how do you think they will deliver on their promises?

People don't get returned straight away if they claim asylum. They will be processed, applications assessed and granted leave to remain or deported. The system does need to speed up massively and the appeal system tightened because it can drag on.

Parties on the liberal left limited women's rights for years until the Supreme Court stepped in. Have no faith in any political party.

We’ve added millions upon millions in the last decade of course immigration is a strain on our resources.

It wasn’t like this 20 years ago…the country is virtually unrecognisable to what it was 20 years ago….mass immigration to a small country land mass wise has destroyed the country.

It’s not sustainable to keep adding more and more people, the roads can’t cope, housing, schools , hospitals we are sunk.

HPFA · 03/05/2025 10:22

Racists vote for all parties although I'm sure Reform have a higher number than others.

While I'm sure there will be much digging out of old Facebook posts it's important to focus on the fact that these new Councillors will simply be unable to make any substantial savings or improve services.

I don't think most Reform voters want a smaller state in reality - they just think they themselves can carry on having things from the state while taking them away from other people and cutting unspecified "waste". That's really the lie that needs exposing.

Here's a new Reform Councillor talking about people's difficulties with having large items disposed of (probably pick ups were removed as a cost saving measure) and having more police on the streets (which isn't a council responsibility) to be funded by removing big unspecified "waste" and cutting free biscuits (which likely don't even exist)

https://bsky.app/profile/reformexposed.bsky.social/post/3loao2o66ek2n

And getting rid of Climate Change Officers (most of whom will be doing jobs like working on flood defences) and Diversity Officers (who mostly don't exist) of course.

These people are in for a very rude awakening when they arrive in Council meetings - although I suspect most of them won't bother turning up after a couple of boring meetings discussing bollards.

Reform UK’s new County Councillor for Birchwood, Lincolnshire, Brenda Collier plans to ban biscuits.

When I visit my old town where I used to live to visit family it's more like a suburb of London. Totally depressing and over crowded. Can't wait to get home as I hate it so much, it's not progressive, businesses closing, empty shops and United Nations hanging around everywhere, smoking weed, leering at and cat calling women, just awful.

Not everyone on disability had physical disabilities, many MH issues, hence the review. And many dont have to do 12 hour shifts. Lots of flexible working hours in NHS.

I can't believe anyone would choose to replace our migrant NHS staff with an inexperienced workforce afflicted by MH issues.

Even with people coming from overseas, we are still awfully short of nurses. It's not like migrants are preventing UK citizens from training and working in this field. The fact is not enough of them are as it is, because it's gruelling work, and conditions are often terrible.

Our neighbour, who came to Britain from India as a child in the 1960s, said he deeply resents the illegals being handed everything on a plate, when his parents had nothing and had to work so hard. He is an educated man, worked in finance in industry before retiring. He told DH that he was thinking of voting Reform and thinks Tommy Robinson takes a lot of sense about Islam.

In the year ending June 2024, approximately 1.2 million people immigrated to the United Kingdom. This resulted in a net migration of 728,000 after accounting for those who emigrated from the UK during the same period.

728,000 is hardly “millions upon millions “ in a country of 68 million. It’s a drop in the ocean!

illegals being handed everything on a plate,
Illegal immigrants are being handed everything on a plate? Fgs they're not, they have illegal status they are entitled to nothing and will be deported if found.

Does this concern you at all?

India and Pakistan are basically on the brink of war, and many British Indians and Pakistanis are very loyal to their original countries. There has been sectarian violence before, after cricket matches for example, but due to homeland politics.

This is unironically one of the reasons people are concerned about unchecked migration. Other countries' ethnic conflicts becoming our own.

Quite extraordinary to be concerned about "other countries' ethnic conflicts" when you consider Britain's role on the Indian sub-continent.

Does it concern me that some suburban retiree is a bit of a racist? Yes, but not because he is of Indian heritage.

I wasn't talking about asylum seekers.

I certainly hope that asylum seekers are receiving free health care, if they didn't that would be in breach of their human rights.

The UK is obligated to accept refugees and allow people to claim asylum. This is international law.

Your post specifically said asylum seekers don't use the NHS & everyone using it contributes via tax & NI. That is not the truth. I agree people in need should be able to access health care in a developed country- I was simply pointing out that what you said was inaccurate.

marshmallowmix · 03/05/2025 10:49

Am talking over last decade(s) its millions…£728k in one year 2024 per ONS.….and that is the numbers recorded/documented so the reality will be much, much higher.

its not difficult if multiply this by 10 or 20 years it then becomes a very significant figure the size of a large city being added each year…

Also many of those leaving are usually net contributors highly skilled whereas many of those arriving have zero sills and are net takers…and bring large extended families that don’t work.

The fabric of the country has changed beyond all recognition in the last 20 years …and it’s very worrying.
