Oh, you big meanie. General Campbell just wants to make friends, as you seem like a nice person to him. You've clearly got at least one interest in common (the concert). Why not get back to him, it can't do any harm and you might make an interesting new friend!

(An interesting new friend who sends creepy winky faces to strangers)

Someone who believes that they’re in a relationship with Brad Pitt isn’t a victim, they’re an idiot.

There are certain scams where you can see how people fall for them.

The bank claiming that your money is at risk so you need to draw it all out.

The Royal Mail one saying you need to arrange delivery of your parcel.

The M&S email saying you’ve been selected to receive a hamper, and countless others.

You can see how someone can get drawn in by any of them. The bank is because people panic about their money and they’re caught unawares.

The Royal Mail one because if you’re expecting a parcel then it’s logical to accept there could be a problem.

The M&S one because if you’re a customer it’s easy to see how you could have been given an offer.

But being contacted out of the blue by Brad Pitt isn’t even remotely believable.

And remortgaging your house for a man you’ve never met is pure idiocy. Even if it was someone you knew was genuine getting yourself into debt for them would be ill-advised.

As someone said upthread, the victim excusing on this thread is far worse.

People need to realise that if they fall for this they’re not victims. They need to realise that Brad Pitt isn’t going to be remotely interested in them, or that nobody they’ve never met is going to ask them for hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Softly softly doesn’t work. They don’t want to hear it.

so true.

I watched this episode of 90 Day Fiancee where a Russian woman who had been bought over by her not very attractive American boyfriend was demanding expensive designer goods in every store and throwing a strop when he said he didn't have that money. I'm wondering if these boat people coming over think we are all millionaires with loads of money to blow on designer bags and other fripperies.

Is he the guy who ended up in prison fur doing drugs?

If so, he lost a lot of weight and looked better after he came out. I'm not recommending it as a weight loss solution BTW 😆

90 day fiancé makes me laugh. Some of if the men and women are foolish... thinking someone 20 to 35 years younger would genuinely be interested in them.

One guy from Tunisia clearly forced himself to have sex after they got married, so the marriage was consummated... then soon after he wanted out of the marriage.

It's madness.

There was a Turkish guy with a dreadful gobby obese woman who clearly took one for the team. He was that desperate to get a visa. I felt sorry for him up to a point. She treated him like dirt as she knew she had the upper hand.

There was also a woman called Angela who should have been arraigned for spousal abuse of her African husband. I believe he actually fled because the verbal abuse was so bad. I had to unsubscribe from 90 Day fiancee because it's so addictive!

Beggars belief indeed. I found this on the FT.

Madness!

People are way too quick to part with their cash.

I work too hard for mine to do that and I believe that if it looks to good to be true, it usually is.

SandyY2K · 26/05/2025 13:48

@YourAmplePlumPoster

Just as I replied, I got an email from someone to purchase an item from Amazon abs they'll reimburse me.

This is not a friend... and I'm not in any kind of regular contact with them.. not even once in 5 years.. I just can't believe that I'm the person they would ask to do this.

Another scam, so I won't be falling for the sob story of him needing to get a gift for someone who has liver cancer.

He's obviously been hacked.

I'm on high alert.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 26/05/2025 17:24

This is not your friend but the hacker. I also got a similar email from one of my oldest friends and I knew from the off she'd never send an email like that.

Yep. I messaged him on WhatsApp and he confirmed he been hacked.

I reread the email, which said his friend's daughter has "cancer and liver" I'd hope she had a liver.

Attached it here...people are so sad. He's such a nice kind man and I do think some people could fall for it, as it's the kind of thing he would do.

He's not close enough to me to believe it came from him though.

Everyone be aware of this scam.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 26/05/2025 20:32

Aha! Anything asking for gift cards is a scam. Plus the poor English. Glad you stayed safe and didn't get scammed 🥰

Men also fall for romance scams

Isxmasoveryet · 08/08/2025 13:14

Agreed they willingly hand over everything they own to a picture of a person no questions asked because someone typed I love u here is a sob story they cry the victim when the money runs out come on they no more a victim them I'm the queen of Sheba lol

Gimpee · 23/08/2025 21:41

I find it hard to understand why anyone would give someone they don't know money. My daughter in laws sister who lives in council house with her 5 kids asked family for £2k to send to Brad Pitt to fuel plane so he could visit her I couldn't stop laughing how can people be so stupid.

DuesToTheDirt · 24/08/2025 10:20

@Gimpee oh my word. That's actually really sad that she could believe such a thing.

thepariscrimefiles · 24/08/2025 10:50

On an episode of 'For Love or Money', a woman who had pretty much given all her life savings to a man who the investigators had discovered did not actually exist, was still sending 'him' money, even after they had revealed all their findings to her and while she was appearing on the show. It is impossible to help someone with that level of delusion.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 24/08/2025 12:13

Dr Phil recently had a woman on his show who had sent $100,000 to someone, supposedly a doctor working in Syria to get him out of Syria on a private plane, who had since been detained in the UK and was now in prison. He said he needed money for medication. When she phoned, he picked up the phone right away, despite being supposedly in prison and he had a strong Nigerian accent. It's unbelievable that someone can concoct such an absurd story and be believed.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/12/2025 13:20

I honestly can’t work out if they are simply undereducated, deluded or desparate to want it to be true -

IDontHateRainbows · 13/12/2025 11:59

Scammed use manipulation tactics like silent treatment after love bombing if they don't get what they want, still no excuse but its not as simple as day 1: gimme thousands of pounds.
