Reform winning big

1000 replies

Keirawr · 02/05/2025 06:21

Reform had a good night, winning county councils, probably will win a mayoral seat and won the parliamentary by election also.

You don’t have to be a Reform voter to acknowledge that they are taking votes off Labour. Or that they are being electorally effective.

No doubt the ‘basket of deplorables’ crowd will be along in a min with their usual quips calling reform voters names, having learned absolutely 0 from Brexit. Insult the voters at your peril.

These same people also totally miss the point that winning is winning. Feeling all moral and superior about ‘oh well, what will they actually do’ changes nothing.

Perhaps those who label everyone that wants immigration limiting as ‘racist’ Will think again. But likely not.

The irony 🤣

What did you learn from Brexit?

I don't know where you live but they are taken seriously in my circles.

To think my Grandad along with many others landed on Gold beach on D day was being shot at by Nazis, to fight fascism, to preserve democracy all for what, for ingrates, 80 years later to fall for populist BS and vote against freedom and democracy!

Eh? I think you've got that arse about face. I live in a county where our military history is very much celebrated. We are the home of the Dambusters, the Bouncing Bomb and the Lancaster bomber. I can assure you, few people who fought for this country would be against Reform. We have just seen our first Mayor for Reform. Thats on top of a cracking seat at the GE. That's the thing though, you and the countless others on here, will never get it.

Sorry to be old-fashioned, but 'reform winning big' is illiterate.

Anyway, yes, a good night for Reform, but the interesting thing will be to see how they perform. I'm doubtful that they have the experience to do well.

How original 🙄

Does it? Has there ever been a well functioning equal society anywhere in the world let alone the UK?

Well voting for whatever benefits you even at the cost of many others is the cause of inequality.

Technically, it should be possible under the Dublin Agreement to return asylum seekers to the first safe EU country they’ve entered.

However, I’ve read about several cases in places like Germany, where people were supposed to be sent back but weren’t, because they hid from the authorities or for other reasons.

Last summer an 26-year-old Syrian asylum seeker attacked people at a festival in Solingen (Germany).
The first EU country he had entered was Bulgaria, so his asylum application in Germany was denied in 2023, and he was supposed to be deported to Bulgaria (which was willing to accept him).

However, the deportation did not happen because the authorities couldn’t get hold of him on that particular day, and he was eventually granted subsidiary protection allowing him to remain in Germany.

www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/01/22/germany-knife-attack-aschaffenburg-schntal-park/

I think it’s if people apply for asylum in another country not where they enter otherwise Germany and everyone would just re divert to Italy etc
You are correct it can still be a no, the country has to say yes.

That agreement does little to deter or effect movement.

Your Full Fact link also says;

Studies on those involved in grooming children do suggest that a disproportionate number of offenders are categorised as being of Asian ethnicity.

But what will reform do about it?

IsoscelesSandwich · 02/05/2025 14:01

Reform punch down, whipping up hatred against the most vulnerable. If they did get into power, I’d think people would quickly realise that our bills wouldn’t go down or quality of life improve with politicians that won votes on populist, extremism rhetoric. Healthy, happy societies are not governed from a place of fear and hatred.

My grandfather who was a proud greek man fought for this country. If it wasn't for Jamaica you wouldn't have your bullets. Let's not forget how India helped us in the war as well. You didn't fight on your own.

Go ahead and believe whatever you need to excuse your selfishness and greed.
I bet you would be fine with bringing back slavery so mums can have free slave child minders because that would benefit you and your family,

Do you mean Labour voters are more virtuous? It’s usually Labour saying this but I can’t see why it’s dressed up as such. Labour get higher support from the public sector / state support for a reason, it’s still self interest.

Not great if you’re SME being hammered rn

My dad was in the RAF in WW2. He’d have been incandescent about Reform. He was a lifelong socialist. I think you would find most WW2 veterans, were they still alive, would be anti a drift to the right and the sort of rhetoric we get from Farage and Co.

Helloworlditsmeagain · 02/05/2025 13:25

There it is! This might shock you but the majority of child abuse and grooming is from white men.

"Nearly 90% of those convicted of wider child abuse offences and on the sex offenders register are white men."

https://fullfact.org/crime/what-do-we-know-about-ethnicity-people-involved-sexual-offences-against-children/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21293519664&gbraid=0AAAAADRxhmdAJNbH0AcPxVYuYCccG0JIr

The whole point of the article that you linked to is to examine and question this statistic. The authors actually find and highlight quite a lot of alarming data showing the high proportion of Asian men in grooming gangs. You should probably read it.

Clavinova · 02/05/2025 14:04

Helloworlditsmeagain · 02/05/2025 13:52

“Yes Pakistani men are disproportionately involved in grooming gangs and this particular model of abuse. And no that is not a racist statement. Neither is it racist to say that when it comes to wider child abuse nearly 90 per cent of those convicted and on the sex offenders register are white men.”

Naz Shah MP, 12 August 2017

In the 2021 Census, the majority of the population in England and Wales (81.7%) identified as White. Within the White group, the largest percentage (74.4%) identified as White British. Other significant ethnic groups include Asian (9.3%), Black (4.0%), Mixed (2.9%), and Other (2.1%).

https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/uk-population-by-ethnicity/national-and-regional-populations/population-of-england-and-wales/latest/#:~:text=according%20to%20the%202021%20Census,up%20from%20333%2C100%20to%20923%2C800

White males are the majority not Asian.

Neither is it racist to say that when it comes to wider child abuse nearly 90 per cent of those convicted and on the sex offenders register are white men.

However, the verdict in your Full Fact link did not confirm that percentage - you quoted the claim, not the verdict. Your link also says;

The government told us that it doesn’t routinely publish information on the ethnicity of people convicted of wider sexual offences.

Clavinova · 02/05/2025 13:38

Your Full Fact link also says;

Here are some stats.

87% of the population is white. White people account for 90% of defendents proceeded against for csa offences.

9% of the population is Asian. Asian people account for 5% of defendents proceeded against for csa offences.

Well the results speak for themselves in my county and you don't get much more patriotic for our war history than here. However, you carry on trying to desperately refute a basic fact.

I’m stepping in - because winning big is a very well known expression, and maybe it is slang but since when did the MN police moderate slang?! Given how often it’s used on here!

You are being petty and spiteful, and your attitude is the VERY reason people will vote for Reform, because they are entitled to respect, to be listened to and their view is just as important as yours, however they express it. I see this undercurrent of devaluing and it’s deeply unpleasant and so divisive. .

Edited

This is totally wrong. It's not my fight but absolutely no one deserves respect just because. It's normal that one wouldn't give the same validity to a point they disagree with. If you find, it wouldn't be your opinion. I had lots of conversations during brexit with various people. Sorry to say but everyone I spoke to who voted for brexit WAS racist in their reasons. And sometimes not bright. My favourite quote was a man who told me he voted brexit " because there's too many brown people in Burnley. I extrapolate that to reform voters too, as they are old ukip brexit party.
Do you respect my view saying this? And what does respecting a view actually mean?

LoremIpsumCici · 02/05/2025 14:05

There are numerous hints at a pro-natalist approach and I bet you the 'solution' to a lot of the issues will be to chain women back to the sink. If you liked having a choice, steer clear of them.

I agree. The trad wife, pregnant in the kitchen vibe is strong

Absolutely, they don't care they are rich. After Brexit Jacob Rees-Mogg moved his business over to Dublin. They don't care about us or how it will affect us.

HPFA · 02/05/2025 14:05

Andrea Jenkyns wants to put asylum seekers in tents.

Good idea - let's set up refugee tented cities in Clacton, Ashfield, Runcorn, Thurrock and Boston.

Will be interesting to see Reform councillors turn up for meetings, find out that the Diversity Officer was made redundant years ago, that cutting down on "climate" saves about 50p and then try to work out how to pay the ever expanding social care costs without bankrupting the entire council.

No, I really haven't, I am not celebrating military history, I am making the point about betrayal of our forefathers, some of whom we're forced to fight for democracy and freedom and for what? To see those principles disregarded by voting in a party that stand for the opposite of freedom and democracy.

Pinepeak2434 · 02/05/2025 14:08

Illegal immigration is a major issue in the UK, and it’s putting a serious strain on public services and resources. Unfortunately, Labour doesn’t seem to be listening, which is why I’m pleased to see Reform doing well. Had my vote not been denied, it would have gone to Reform, despite not voting for them in the General Election. If it weren’t for legal immigration, my husband and children wouldn’t even exist, as my husband’s father came to the UK, worked, and built a life with an English woman. Most of my husband’s family voted Reform in the GE, so I find it ironic when people throw around the "racist" label without considering the lives and circumstances of others.

MaybeNotBob · 02/05/2025 14:08

So let me get this right;

People voted for Farage and Brexit because of immigration.

Brexit massively increased immigration.

Now they are voting for Farage again because of immigration.

But we're not allowed to call them thick...
