AIBU to suggest
Now (whilst it's cool) is the time to open all your windows and let the fresh air in.

Give it an hour, and close them, and close your blinds or curtains in any sun facing windows.

This public service broadcast is over. Thank you.

Done!

Damnloginpopup · 01/05/2025 08:20

I panicked at the capitalisation. Then realised I already have.

Thank you for reminding me though, I MIGHT HAVE SUFFOCATED if you hadn't.

Onethingafteran0ther · 01/05/2025 08:22

I did it haha. Love it!

Well, normally I’d agree with you, but there have been people on several threads since the warm weather started who are complaining about the heat indoors, but who appear to never open their windows, so it doesn’t appear to compute for everyone.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/05/2025 08:37

THANK YOU 😊

TheMimsy · 01/05/2025 08:39

Absolutely not. My hayfever won’t thank me. Maybe this evening after it’s cooled down again and hayfever meds are all in full effect.

Augustus40 · 01/05/2025 08:40

I find opening the windows only cools me down a little in the evenings. Barely worth it.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 01/05/2025 08:44

I already have cos it’s 1 May and I wanted to let the summer in.

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/05/2025 08:48

Windows fully open early in the morning, curtains and blinds closed during the day, windows open again when the sun goes in. Standard warm weather protocol.

Plump82 · 01/05/2025 08:49

Back to being Baltic here so windows firmly closed!

user1471505356 · 01/05/2025 08:50

You do not live in Northern Ireland apparently, cloudy and cool this morning.

Dairymilkisminging · 01/05/2025 08:51

No thanks we are only getting 14 today also rain ahhh sunny Scotland I'm well jealous of yous

ClawsandEffect · 01/05/2025 08:52

I used to have windows open for at least 2 hours a day, year round, even in freezing temperatures.. Until I got an infestation of insects that came in through the windows on one side of the house. So now, sadly, the rooms that were worst affected stay firmly closed. Which I hate. I love a good clearing out of fresh air.

BurglarAndSwag · 01/05/2025 08:55

Great idea. Thanks, by the way where do you live?

Yellowpingu · 01/05/2025 08:58

Keep your loft hatch open if you have one. Roofs have ventilation and as the heat rises it will allow some of it to escape rather than build up.

Profhilodisaster · 01/05/2025 09:00

Thanks for the advice, it always amazes me that people don't air their houses anyway. I always have a window open even through the winter (for at least an hour) .

Are you German? 😁

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 01/05/2025 09:08

In the south East the hottest part of the day seems to about 5pm, yet all my neighbours seem to open their windows at that time?! Guys it’s 28c outside 23c inside, why invite the warm in?

DejaMooo · 01/05/2025 09:09

I would but there are swarms and swarms of green flies surrounding us today. I had to drop my daughter to school with my mouth firmly closed and am currently picking them out of my hair.

butterdish93 · 01/05/2025 09:09

It’s nice to get fresh air. But It’s not hot enough to warrant such urgent action.

EmeraldDreams73 · 01/05/2025 09:12

Agreed! Although my very old, damp and always cold cottage is actually really cool anyway so this is the kind of weather we live for. Except for the flies. You're never far from a chicken farm in Devon. 😬

MassiveOvaryaction · 01/05/2025 09:14

Didn't need telling, they'd been open overnight.

Have you tried this?

Just remembered to shut my back blinds before the sun comes over

johnd2 · 01/05/2025 09:17

Pollen screen would have to be so fine it wouldn't actually let any air in. You'd need a fan assisted one
