To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

I am waiting for the new tinted version (in a range of skin colours) to arrive in the UK (in June apparently).

I’m amazed how many people have a king sized bed!

Really? Why?

When typing an email, either add the recipient's email addresses as the last thing (once you've finished & checked the email contents) or, if replying, remove email address and paste in into the top of your message and then pop it back into the 'TO' section once ready to send. Stops the 'faaaaaark I've just sent that to the wrong person/people/entire global list!!!" malarkey

Yes indeed, thinking of colleague who meant to send an email to me and just typed the first initial in and it autofilled with the subject of the comments. He phoned me in a panic, and I'm afraid i made him tell me what he'd said, which was actually reasonable but wouldn't have gone down well, and laughed at him. The poor head of department had a shitstorm on his hands.

Leafy3 · 24/04/2025 23:22

@DorothyStorm do you mean you line a disposable nappy with fleece?

Those pins to keep a king sized duvet in place inside the cover.

To use a spoon not a knife to remove avocado stones and also the flesh from the skin rather than trying to peel it. Saved me from many middle class injuries since I found that one as I am clumsy and on blood thinners.

If you’re going to mash/chop it to go on toast, you can just squeeze each half and the flesh comes out cleanly. The stone also pops out.

ThinWomansBrain · 25/04/2025 00:36

Pins for keeping a duvet in place
I used a weighted blanket for a while, didn't know you could get special pins - I just purchased nappy pins - they work well.

Oneearringlost · 25/04/2025 06:43

Milk freezes, brilliantly!
Just get the requisite amount on the weekly online shop/ physical shop, pop the cartons in the freezer and you no longer run out...helpful if you live rurally.

I keep a couple of ready-threaded needles, ie, one with black thread, one with white thread, for sewing on rogue loose buttons. Saves hunting down sewing boxes and needles and thread at 7.30 in the morning school rush.

How big's your lawn if it's done in 4 hours? DO you have to stop it to empty the grass? My lawn can fill the brown bin in no time flat!

It's not a massive lawn. The wee robot just trundles round randomly chopping a cm or whatever of the top. It works on same principle as the robot vacuum where it goes over and over the same area over quite a long period. You don't collect the cuttings they stay on the grass.

We have super king, it's glorious.

@DorothyStorm do you mean you line a disposable nappy with fleece?

No a reuseable nappy. The paper liners just make rhe baby soggy. And a soggy bum makes a sore bum.

I'm sending this to my DM, she loves mashed avocado on toast.

It posted a very nice rum baba recipe!

Which it will have scraped from someone else's site and be using without attribution... sorry, am still sore from the book-scraping incident the other week. AI can't be original, it can only regurgitate what it has on board from other places; it is not 'thinking', it's searching its algorythms and picking stuff then sticking it together.

Ahem. Back to our scheduled programme....

LindaMo2 · 24/04/2025 22:01

What might that be please?

Add table spoon of soda crystals to washing machine to soften the water, or put tablrspoon in drum and run a cleaning cycle to clear out machine. Stops machine smelling, helps with stains and makes clothes softer

Do you put them in the drum, soap dispenser or on the clothes please ?

In the drawer with powder (or whatever) apparently. Mine arrive tomorrow!

Tops (tshirts etc) you hang from the bottom. Bottoms (trousers) you hang from the top (waistband).

I always hang everything upside down. Tops from the bottom hem and trousers upside down, one clip on each trouser leg. The waistband dries quicker and the weight of the trousers seems to pull out any creases.

I'm yet another person successfully taking Mounjaro. 19lbs lost in seven weeks so far. There is a whole Weight Loss Injections board on here for anyone interested and it has been so helpful and supportive. Almost everyone is paying for it privately and you do need a BMI of 30 or more (or 27 with certain medical issues) to be prescribed it.

Loveautumnhatewinter · 25/04/2025 08:58

Haven’t read all the thread so this might have been mentioned already;

I used to spend a fortune on Dettol laundry sanitiser. Now I used distilled white vinegar. I buy a 5L gallon one from Amazon and add a capful to the detergent drawer. Works a treat. And I was surprised clothes don’t smell like fish and chips.

MrsDuskTilldawn2point0 · 25/04/2025 09:20

I don’t like AI much - for all the reasons previous pp have mentioned, BUT I just asked for a meal plan and the result was brilliant! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Might have to continue using it for that.

No is a complete sentence has made a real positive impact on my life.

So tempted re: Mounjaro but I don’t fancy the side effects. 🫤

Been using separate duvets for years instead of one big one, but I never thought to store them in a pillow case all together and ready. How much tidier is that!!

Crikeyalmighty · 25/04/2025 09:44

@TheLovelinessOfDemons encourage it - apparently good for cholesterol levels

MikeRafone · 25/04/2025 09:48

Ihateslugs · 23/04/2025 00:08

Same here, I wash my coverless duvet only when I swap the winter one for the summer weight one. I use a top sheet which gets washed regularly but the duvet does not touch my body so does not get dirty - I live alone, don’t have pets and tend not to sit on the bed so the duvet remains clean.

When I was 18, I spent a ski season working in holiday chalets in Austria and we did not use duvet covers, just top sheets. At change over day, we stripped the sheets and hung the duvet outside in the covered balcony for a few hours before putting it back on the bed. All the ski hotels did this back in the 1980s!

see I like the idea of coverless duvets - so I can wash the entire item each week or fortnight.

MikeRafone · 25/04/2025 09:50

To use a spoon not a knife to remove avocado stones and also the flesh from the skin rather than trying to peel it

grapefruit spoon is ideal for this, but a normal teaspoon also works
