To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

Rather than trying to pour hot fat away after cooking, using a piece of kitchen roll to absorb it out of the pan and just binning it (I do mean the odd spoonful, not a whole chip pan!)

Or just throw a handful of porridge oats or chopped up stale bread in the pan to soak up the fat and pop it in a Tupperware style container in the fridge to put out for the birds next day. You can add a handful of chopped peanuts or bird food if you are feeling generous but it’ll all get eaten even without.

Chatgpt is not fully qualified in psychology. It is thoroughly unreliable as a source of information.

It posted a very nice rum baba recipe!

Hairspray is however brilliant for getting lipstick out of anything washable. Soak it with spray and wash whilst wet. It got a bright red dog chewed lipstick off an almost white cushion cover. Dog needed a bath too 🤷‍♀️

Same here, I wash my coverless duvet only when I swap the winter one for the summer weight one. I use a top sheet which gets washed regularly but the duvet does not touch my body so does not get dirty - I live alone, don’t have pets and tend not to sit on the bed so the duvet remains clean.

When I was 18, I spent a ski season working in holiday chalets in Austria and we did not use duvet covers, just top sheets. At change over day, we stripped the sheets and hung the duvet outside in the covered balcony for a few hours before putting it back on the bed. All the ski hotels did this back in the 1980s!

I do exactly the same but a normal duvet and duvet cover. Wash the sheet and pillow cases weekly, the duvet cover quarterly. Looks pretty too.

I didn’t read this on MN but I’m throwing it in anyway, because it’s such a great piece of information.

To fend off a UTI if you think you might be heading for one: Put a teaspoon of cream of tartar and a few drops of lemon juice in a mug of hot water, drink at first sign, and then again each morning add night, although I only had to drink it three times and it was gone, and I noticed an improvement within a couple of hours. It doesn’t taste too bad either, the only time I pulled a face was when I overdid the lemon juice.

The drink changes the pH inside the bladder, making it inhospitable to the bacteria causing the infection. It honestly works, I started getting symptoms at the start of a bank holiday weekend, knowing I couldn’t get to a doctor for at least four days. It’s only that fact that got me looking for other solutions.

Obvs not intended to replace medical advice blah blah.

It’s worth noting that a pharmacist can dispense antibiotics for a uti or minor infection. No appointment needed, just walk in and ask to speak to the pharmacist. 18 months ago the gp route took me 4 days to get antibiotics over a weekend. Last month I went into a boots pharmacy on a Saturday and walked out with antibiotics in about an hour. That’s a lot of discomfort avoided!!

@GlomOfNit

"...cooking with and loving PFB in stews etc. "

Surely PFB doesn't need slow cooking ?

What a pfb?

What a pfb?

Further up the thread I said I thought it was a mini-typo for PBF= plant based food. Not 'precious first born' as someone suggested - not in a stew at least.

Scissors to cut pizza, amazing.
Even the hubster is converted..

And to cut up
eat for small children. So much easier and quicker than a knife and fork.

Did you just use it on your scalp?

🤣🤣. I think the op used it like soap to wash the fissure area with it.

FrogsLoveRain · 24/04/2025 21:39

Fimofriend · 23/04/2025 06:11

What does that mean?

Tops (tshirts etc) you hang from the bottom. Bottoms (trousers) you hang from the top (waistband).

FrogsLoveRain · 24/04/2025 21:39

Which is totally logical. I do it. Dp doesn't consistently, and I have to go out and re hang it. Grrr.

@Londonmummy66Any alcohol will get Sharpie off a freezer bag.

@itcouldhavebeenmeTry a prompt such as “Suggest five evening meals for a family of four. One meal should include fish. Do not include avocados.” You can change any of the details there, if you happen to like avocados. (I think I’m the only person who doesn’t.) And if you have follow up questions, you can say “From the meal options listed above, suggest vegan alternatives” or whatever.

Hand sanitizer gets sharpie off a freezer bag.

Whiteboard markers will wipe off.

So will hand sanitizer.

Zofora, absolutely love that stuff and buy it in bulk. I use it for rinsing out the bid and mopping the toilet floors. I think I’m going to do that right now, although I was delaying it for later, the scent makes me happy and I feel like I’m making a happy home.

When I used to make play dough for the children, the oil/salt/flour type, I always used to put a dribble of Zoflora in it to make it smell nice. My daughter said the other day that Zoflora smells like play dough 😂😂

Nope, me too! Since menopause I just can’t drink, the tiniest bit gives me a raging hangover. Did I lose weight? No. Do I feel better for it? No. I haven’t started guzzling pop or anything instead. So when I read about the health benefits of being teetotal, I laugh, my spare tires laugh, then we cry 😂😂😂

This is me too - am peri and just can’t drink at all. And don’t feel any bloody better for not doing!

I work on the basis of Cook Once Eat Twice, so freeze a lot of stuff. It was always a real faff to get the stuff into a plastic bag (to then freeze flat for easy defrosting).

I’d get dribbles of mince or whatever around the bag which meant sealing it was tricky.

A wise MNetter suggested taking a large plastic soup carton, slicing the bottom off it, and sitting it in the open bag and spooning the contents in.

It makes such a difference.

However, I’ve since discovered 2 cup silicone containers

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remingtape-Silicone-Freezer-Tray-Dishwasher-Safe/dp/B0DTYJLBBV?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=AMNMACWVKIZXM

They then defrost beautifully into one of these ready for cooking

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/ikea-365-food-container-with-lid-square-glass-plastic-s39269120/

I freeze it in these containers and once frozen, take it out and put in a ziplock bag to save space (and give you your container back to reuse). I hug ave a freezer full of these ‘bricks’ that I just pop back in the origins container to cook/heat up.

Real nappy use advice. I bought an amount of fleece material from the haberdashery and cut it to strips. It draws the moisture away from the baby’s skin. My mum was so shocked and then upset at why nobody had told her than when we were babies as our bums were so sore. No option for disposable then.

PaintDecisions · 24/04/2025 08:37

Just spray with Elbow Grease, leave for a bit and it'll all but wipe off. May needs to do it twice. Magic stuff.

WD40 takes it off. Mayonnaise works too but you have to let it soak in for a while.

What might that be please?

When my favourite white linen top turned yellow due to sun cream, I was advised to soak it in washing up liquid and white vinegar. It worked!

Making my way through this thread so sorry if you’ve already answered but what ratio of washing up liquid and vinegar did you use? Thanks!

Can you please share the name of this sunscreen? Suncream always gives me spots.

Biore Aqua Rich. It's Japanese, but it's now available in Superdrug. I don't think I like the spray on version that's new this year, but I've only used it once.

Check out the Beauty of Joseon sun stick! It's so so brilliant, doesn't shine or feel sticky and a great base for makeup.
