To ask what the most BRILLIANT advice/suggestion you've seen on here is?

Inspired by the other thread with a similar title!

Maybe not advice/suggestion as such, but I wouldn't have got my Mirena coil had I not been persuaded by the balance of views on here and enough positive feedback that it could work out well. It has been lifechanging, I wish I had done it 20 years ago, I could have avoided years of pain.

My new one is tretinoin. It's only been a few weeks but I already think I will be using this for the rest of my life. Why have I spent so much money on expensive and less efficacious creams?

Without wanting to control the direction of the thread, I wasn't thinking of LTB type advice. More immediately implementable things that someone could try today! (Although MN has definitely educated me in matters such as 'the script', narcissism, emotional abuse, and trans/gender critical matters!)

@BlackBeltInOrigami I like the garlic one but all are good - they are often where you find tinned stuff like tinned chilli or Frey bentos pies etc

I can't believe it either....😂

And surely if it doesn’t fit the one way the next logical step would be to try the other way?

Haven't read whole thread so someone else might have answered, but just in case: D Mannose available from lots of places, including Boots, just google it. I get mine here: https://tinyurl.com/yju2m92c
It's a type of naturally occurring sugar whose molecular structure locks on to the cystitis-related bacteria in the bladder, making it easier for you to wee it away the next time you empty your bladder. There'll be dosage guidance on the packaging but you can't overdose as it's not a pharmaceutical, it's just sugar. I take as frequently as I feel I need it.
For the first one or two doses, try not to drink too much water (counter intuitive when you have cystitis, I realise), so you give it enough time in the bladder to lock on to the bacteria (ie so you're not wee-ing out too quickly before it can work, or diluting it too much in the bladder).

Started him on them yesterday, I'm surprised at the lack of resistance!

And the bed is wider than it is long...I'm so confused as to why people are confused 🤔

This is for those who are using formula (whether from the beginning or later on).

No need to keep formula milk warm or cold, just prepare on the go. Brilliant when out and about and in the middle of the night!

The best tip ever:

  • Fill bottles with boiling water - let water cool to room temperature. You can then bring bottles (with water) with you wherever you go.
  • Buy a formula powder dispenser - each segment is for one feed/bottle.
  • Then when you need a bottle prepared, you just empty the powder into the bottle and shake - voila, milk is ready!

All my kids got used to room temperature milk no problem.

It made it so easy to travel and go out and no need for cool bags or to warm the milk up in the middle of the night.

Edited

You’re not supposed to do that because you’re supposed to use boiling water to dissolve the formula so that you kill any bacteria in the formula.

What you can do is add a shot of boiling water to the formula, dissolve it and then make up the rest of the volume of the feed with cooled boiled water so that it’s at drinking temperature immediately.

Ok today I have learned (a) what soda crystals are and (b) how to use them! Well done MN!

Mounjaro - I missed this post, can anyone link it here please? I’m looking into Mounjaro / Ozempic but want to hear from ‘real’ users on results / side effects and how where you get it from please? 🙏🏼

There is a whole board for injectable wait loss. Mounjaro has better results and fewer side effects. There is a lot of research out there into the side effects. I’ve found as long as made the right food choices I don’t have any side effects but I haven’t gone up a dose level every month.

Just spray with Elbow Grease, leave for a bit and it'll all but wipe off. May needs to do it twice. Magic stuff.

I think hand sanitizer works for this.

Similarly, a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in water to fend off cystitis. Drink a glass every 3-4hrs. My elderly mum has used this remedy for years.

Absolutely does work, I've had raging utis twice in my life but try to avoid antibiotics like the plague. Also sterling advice from a mumsnetter was to stop/start peeing. She received this advice from a top urologist who said the bugs cling on for dear life when we pee using their hooks, and relax when we stop so this method flushes more out.

2 morning and 1 evening
also if you drink shakes add d-mannose powder, i use the Holland and Barratt one, nice flavour and easy. At the same time take the tablets.

Those look good, but my issues seem to be at the sides rather than the ends.

i second Rise and Fall fitted sheets they are elasticated all the way round and really don’t move . They are not cheap but worth every penny.

Ohyeahwaitaminute; When I'm freezing home-made stock, I pour it into small square storage boxes, then when it's frozen I just turn the blocks out a store them in a freezer bag.

Never had any issue, had friends do the same and my SIL also did this once she saw me doing it.

Both kids very healthy. But then I didn't really sterilise lots of things - I did sterilise bottles due to milk bacteria however.

Don’t feel sad. Feel good about the longer term health benefits you are giving yourself. Health is better than skinny!

Sure, but the guidance on this changed around 15ish years ago due to some fatalities, so @AFrogInABog was quite right to point this out. If I'd popped up recommending tummy sleeping and cot bumpers I would hope someone would point out they are no longer recommended for safety too.

Does anyone have any tips for removing leftover sticky residue (from labels) off plastic please? 🤞🏼

‘Non-sticky sticky stuff’ (yes, that’s it’s name!) removes sticky residue from anything you throw at it. I got mine on-line, but can’t remember where. It’s brilliant stuff.

I knew this was going to be brought up!

I made up every single bottle like this (I mean in cooled boiled water), signed off by my health visitor so while I'm sure this is true, I would also say that doing a personal risk assessment, i.e. that the water is clean, I'm confident that manufacturers are following rules and regs etc., my mental health is also important and if it makes me cry trying to prep a bottle in the moment when my baby is crying then I'll do it this way.

Incidentally I wonder if the risk has ever been proven? Food standards agency says around 3k babies are admitted to hospital with intestinal issues but I don't think that it can be concluded that it's all (or any) from formula not put in boiling water. Difficult to assess I suppose.
